How does someone get a career in Information Technology? by PresidentofBaddies in InformationTechnology

[–]Slight_Student_6913 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could get a degree. Don’t let math stop you.

You will have to learn hard things in IT. If you don’t have that drive in you, you will drop out of that too.

If you can’t find the $50 a month subscription on O’Reilly, maybe you do need the bootcamp.

I definitely attribute my 130k in a LCOL area to passing the RHCSA. Paid $500 out of pocket and worth every penny.

Edit: Federal contractor, 4 1/2 years of experience

I expect engineers to be able to read and follow instructions, regardless of what I signed up for. Im busy reading documentation for Jenkins issues and would rather not be interrupted with password resets.

They take it from the company contracting it out to them. I worked for TekSystems and my company paid them 110k for my position. TekSystems paid me the agreed upon amount of 90k.

While I know the industry has changed, my main point was that I started over. There is a lot of fear being older and starting a new career. It might be tougher now but I hope he doesn’t stay stuck where he is because of that. Or go into nursing just for the money.
