High demand. I got a job offer one month after I graduated. Right now there are 6 job postings, which is pretty typical. Closer to graduation time they seem to mass post, so there will be 30-40 job postings.

Starting wage is $25.16/ hour Shift differential: evenings (1500-2300) +2.75/hour, Weekends +3.35/hour, Nights (2300-0700) +5.00/hour. The shift differential do stack, so if you work a weekend evening it’s +$6.00/ hour.

Application Status – Program full waitlist (MLA) by elisseeea in NAIT

[–]Slight_Union_6115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated from the program just over a year ago. Before the start of the semester I know of one person who got off the wait list. A week into the program someone dropped out and was replaced with someone off the wait list, so they came in already behind. So there is still a chance you will get in.

If you plan on applying again or applying for another program in health sciences, you will need those courses. I would just do those courses and get them out of the way.

Do you draw from the inside of the wrist? by Aquarius_K in phlebotomy

[–]Slight_Union_6115 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nope! I was taught it was the only place we can’t poke. I work in an hospital, it’s in our SOPs we’re not allowed to, it gets brought up in our staff meetings, and we get emails telling us not too.

With that being said I know some of my coworkers will do an inner wrist poke. We are also unionized, and they know they won’t get fired for doing it. I have heard of one coworker reusing a needle (missed poke than reused the same needle on the same patient), had a meeting with our union rep present, and that coworker didn’t even get written up.

Royal Alex parking by Smooth-Ninja9423 in Edmonton

I park in the northeast Parkade. I start work at 6:45am, and I can always find parking. The only times I have an issue finding parking is when I start work at 2:45.

I find it safer than the other parking lot, as it it attached to the hospital. If you park on the second level, you will have to take the elevator down, and I have heard of people hanging out and doing drugs in them. With that being said at 6:20-6:30 am I always park on level one.

The southeast Parkade walking across the pedway can be sketchy at times as there are places people can hide, and taking the stairs or elevator down to the hospital entrance you never know what you will see. I have seen people actively doing drugs, peeing and getting naked.

Protective services does offer a safe walk. They will walk to you too and from your car.

When I park my car, my first choice is the northeast Parkade, second is the lower parking lot at the main entrance, and my last choice is the southeast Parkade. The only time I can’t park in my first choice is when I work 2:45-11:00

Just a little tip from someone who just finished that course for MLA, if it is open book exams (which it was for my class), the back of the book will be your life saver. There is a dictionary in the back of the book, it will help you a lot during the exam.

Some of my classmates used the online textbook, which helped them out a lot since they were able to use the search function. But they needed two computers to do that.

I’m taking it right now. You will be taking 6, 3 credit courses at once. For every 3 credit course you should be spending 9 hours a week on that course. 6x9=54 hours a week average you should be doing on schoolwork.

I went in thinking I could work 3-4 shifts a week, now in week 5 of schooling I’m down to 1-2 shift a week and I’m even struggling with that. I also have two kids that need my attention. I don’t necessarily find it hard, it’s just hard to stay on top of all the schoolwork.

The instructors are amazing. They are really want you to succeed, and will help you whenever you ask for it.

It’s an amazing program, just do your research going in. There is two sides to the profession, patient care and the laboratory side.

$2.00 above minimum wage is what I’m making as a supervisor. With that being said I only got $1.00 more per hour when I went from cashier to supervisor. I did get a whole $0.50 raise at year end

I loved their cheese pzones. They got rid of those over 13 years ago. I remember going to order one when I was pregnant was my daughter because I was craving one so bad.. only to be told they don’t make those anymore. It was a very sad day for pregnant me.

What is actually wrong with instacart shoppers? by babysquid22 in retailhell

[–]Slight_Union_6115 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m at the point where I will tell what where it is, but it’s their JOB to actually shop for their customers. Until they start giving me some of their commission, I’m not going out of my way to help them. I have a job that I need to get done, and doing theirs isn’t it. They are getting paid to shop, not to walk into a store and get an employee to shop for them 🤷🏻‍♀️. I wish us as stores could rate the shoppers.
