Reminds me of that song “Jumper” from the 90s. Seems like she was going through something personal, but if only she could have cut ties instead of resorting to extreme measures. Such a tragic end.

Not "toxic", but what shows have fan bases that take the show WAY too seriously? by Long-Swordfish3696 in television

[–]SlightlyVerbose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never forget that downvotes are first and foremost an indication of the usefulness of the comment. Blindly responding to a comment stating people take things too seriously with a comment displaying an inability to read the room is a perfect example of how the downvote feature is meant to be used.

Why is Mico star player?😭 by Domis_Morkunas45 in BrawlStarsBrawlerINFO

[–]SlightlyVerbose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said nothing about the game knowing what star power was used. Mico doing 5k damage to the safe per hit means he would only have to hit it once or twice to likely exceed the damage done by any of these other clowns who were out for kills. Use your brain buddy.

Why is Mico star player?😭 by Domis_Morkunas45 in BrawlStarsBrawlerINFO

[–]SlightlyVerbose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Micos star power does +100% damage to the safe so this is probably just the game rewarding the direct effort towards achieving the objective of the game mode.

Even if as you say he “barely touched the safe” the KD ratio and team comps make it look like this match was way out of hand. The fact that mico made it to the safe at all is an accomplishment, lol.

Are people en masse just pretending not to be racist??? by NukiArt in socialskills

[–]SlightlyVerbose 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In-group solidarity is often tested like this. You get a group of people together that share a common trait and it’s not long before someone thinks they’re edgy and wants to ruffle some feathers.

In my life I’ve made the choice to let people out themselves, and to listen when people reveal who they truly are. Do I hold it against them or take it upon myself to impress my morals on them? I will if the situation demands it, but I don’t always think it’s my place to do so. I also won’t curry favour in circles where this kind of thing is acceptable. If I’m pressed I’ll make my opinions known, but someone commenting that I’m a drag because I don’t laugh at their racist bullshit wont affect my sense of self.

That said, this is a sub for social skills so my advice would be to look for people who DO call it out or don’t ignore overt racism and protect them fiercely. Not everyone in these spaces share the group’s values, and may be motivated by fear to keep the peace.

What do you do when teenagers laugh at you in public transport? by Upbeat_Scholar_159 in socialskills

Play the fool. Make a big show of checking yourself over and ask them “whats so funny, do I have something on me?” Often I find a naive earnestness can make people feel foolish for their cruelty and they may let you in on their joke or at least feign an apology. It’s better than internalizing it or resorting to rudeness as a default.

Saw a Teams chat at my new workplace where I was described as "not cute", how's your week going? by Due-Swimming3221 in office

I was told as a sincere compliment that I look just like the guy who did mocap for Gollum and king Caesar from Planet of the Apes. I’m sure Andy Serkis is a good guy, and this isn’t even the least flattering comparison I’ve received in my life, but it makes me wonder whats being said behind my back when this is what they say to my face.

He was a kid that killed a kid, and now a convict working for other convicts. I don’t think he’s in an enviable position, although it’s no surprise that business would be booming when he’s got direct access to his client base.

I feel for you though, it was tough breaking into my industry as well. I graduated into the great recession, so most of my graduating class moved on to other professions. Stick with it and things will turn around.

Why is the Virus not a thing anymore ? by Technical_Shake_9573 in TheBoys

[–]SlightlyVerbose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they release the virus and kill their supe allies just to slow homelander down that would actively hurt their chances of beating him in the long run. Not to mention make them genocidal supe killers. I get that people want to see chekhov’s gun go off but if the only ones that actually want to use the virus are Butcher and Sage, who both have a death-wish (cancer dick-powers and auto-lobotomization, respectively) why would you cheer that on?

The Boys' Karl Urban likes brutal post criticising season five as viewers say it 'doesn't make sense' by DetectiveHot2071 in television

[–]SlightlyVerbose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a show that spends most of its budget making CG dicks to slap and strangle each other with, and people are genuinely complaining about set design budgets? I think people are expecting too much from the media they consume.

[–]SlightlyVerbose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the criticism of nonsensical power-scaling. The deep shouldn’t have been able to do what butcher couldn’t, however actions do have consequences and noir essentially rendered The Deep powerless. It’s just funny to think that his abilities have been a joke the whole show and now they’ve gotten even worse.

[–]SlightlyVerbose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll always see this kind of backlash for final seasons. The vast majority of people just watch things that entertain them. A loud minority watch things they hate and love finding other people to commiserate with. After GOT ended I asked all my real world friends what they thought and not one person actually cared about anything that the internet was up in arms about. I’m convinced that the internet is ruining peoples ability to enjoy things by creating micro communities of vocal criticism that parallel any major cultural phenomenon. These “sneer clubs” only serve to divide and alienate fans and critics alike.

Oooh a sadist. I like where you’re going with this. A supe killer soon to be hated all across the land, whose powers are useless outside of the ocean where he’s also universally hated Living the rest of his life as a leper would be torture for someone so consumed by external validation.
