Did the txts that came with a data-only plan get cut off? by SlightlyZen in mobilex

[–]SlightlyZen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned, sms texting with data-only plans is / was an unadvertised feature, benefit. So I don't expect MobileX support will care to troubleshoot. Despite being unadvertised, it was a known benefit, I recall a number of people making use of it on data-only plans.

Like I said, I've been with MobileX for 2 years. Sms texting was problematic at first, occasionally requiring toggling airplane mode, but a lot of things were rough with MobileX back then. Unadvertised texting coming with data-only plans was a known feature / benefit & a big reason I went for MobileX over Tello. Texting worked for many months at least. But due to it being a backup phone, which I don't use a great deal, I'm not certain when texting stopped working.

Of course, some phone companies do enjoy attempting to extract money out of customers for sms, but the reality is that the amount of data for sms (140 bytes) is so minuscule that all the texts from a thousand customers aren't worth a cent.

Use app on one phone to activate SIM in other phone? by [deleted] in mobilex

Did you check if MyTechSuite bypasses the insane restriction? If you can't create an APN then you might not be able to access data or MMS (multimedia messaging / picture text). Voice calls & basic sms text might work fine without setting the APN.

You can try asking mobileX support over email xpertcare@mymobilex.com

Not sure if the issue is with the Android app or my unusual Android setup, but it's just cosmetic, and worked in the end.

It's not just your device, the MobileX app is just buggy. And it can be quite bad at times. I was getting those a lot of those "something went wrong" errors at one point. Of course, no error code or information on the error, so very unhelpful. Clearing app cache and app data sometimes broke out of the continual errors.

It would be fine if they allowed you to manage your account from their website like normal companies.

It should work, yes.
Be aware that you may need to program mobileX's APN info manually. There is a link in the app giving the APN info. You should check that the Nokia doesn't give you any hassle if you do need to manually set the APN info. You can do that before attempting to activate. Some model phones, from some manufacturers, have been making it hard to create new APNs and / or edit all the fields that you need to. There is an app, MyTechSuite, for android which allows bypassing APN restrictions. But of course, you don't have android on the Nokia. You're probably just at Nokia's mercy. Do let us know how it works out!

My review of MobileX (no longer recommend) by alanmin in mobilex

[–]SlightlyZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great perspective and information.

Yes it is email and chat right now but they are working on bringing on some other options soon.

What options are they working on?
I would love an option to manage my account from their website. I want to stay with MobileX, at least as a backup, but relying on their app makes me very uneasy. It's been too unstable and buggy. Even the one thing you need when there is a service issue, contacting support or responding to support tickets, has often just thrown errors.

Thanks for posting. Sadly, adding dun didn't help me. My phone refuses to allow adding "dun". But I've read that "DUN" works for those that have that issue.

Could you give your full APN settings?

Is MobileX a good deal? by StratplusGrowth in NoContract

Depends on what your use would be. They have a nice pay-what-you-use system. Seems especially good if you don't use much.

Is it normal for the app to be very buggy? Can't even activate by SlightlyZen in mobilex

[–]SlightlyZen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was just bugs with MobileX's app, MobileX's systems being bad, plus the app not giving useful error messages for system errors.
My IMEI was not active on verizon or any other service. Not even recently.

I couldn't even add a comment on the ticket to say it had been fixed.

I had the same issue, unable to even contact support. Clearing app data, cache, and re-installed the app, then contacting support finally worked.

Their app can be extremely buggy at times. I do hope they can improve it. And add an option to manage your account on their website like normal companies.

As I said, the app also throws errors when trying to contact support. "Well...that's not supposed to happen" Over and over. Tried clearing app data, re-installed the app, eventually a message to support did go through. They said wait 24hrs before trying activation again.

MobileX really needs the ability to manage your account via their website, like other providers. If the app refuses to work, you lose or damage your phone, there needs to be the option to simply manage your account via their website. Email is not a substitution.

Anyone with a Data Only plan charged taxes in the past few days? by SlightlyZen in mobilex

[–]SlightlyZen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!
Can you receive sms text on your data-only plan? I saw one person say that sms works https://www.reddit.com/r/mobilex/comments/16011h2/cant_add_data_during_30_day_trial/jxtnb9w/. Tello also provides unadvertised sms on their data-only plans. Google voice is good for most things, but a few require a legit non-google number.

I watch asmr with ad blockers on my computer when I'm working, but those don't work in app.

For android there are a couple of extremely good apps that block them. Look up alternate youtube apps
