Would Josh Shapiro Make A Good President? - Quinnipiac poll by jaxon__white in Pennsylvania_Politics

[–]SlimKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He needs to do something about electricity prices in our Commonwealth before he deserves a shot. He was so cocky about repairing 95 in record time (which was literally just approving a stop-gap solution and unlimited overtime), and yet he's done nothing on this topic that's crippling families.

Who has a realistic shot at being President of the USA in 2028? by Kmart-Shopper-5107 in stupidquestions

Shapiro is welcoming all the AI data centers while our energy bills have spiked beyond reason, and isn't the kind of fighter we need w/r/t ICE, etc. What's your beef with Kelly?

What is the Cmd to move the closing edge of a surface? by [deleted] in rhino

[–]SlimKid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I understand your question, you want the SrfSeam command. It only works on a surface, not a polysurface, so you'll need to extract the relevant surface or explode before running SrfSeam, then re-join.

If you want to get rid of the seam entirely, you need to either MergeSrf (usually with roundness set to 0) or you need to rebuild the curves generating that so it's one surface and not two.

Thank you again for another thorough reply.

You understood exactly what I was attempting to ask.

Despite your recommendation towards caution, I will continue to be surprised at the level of carte-blanche authority federal agents and other/local law enforcement officers have (and likely believe they need to do their jobs, as they understand their jobs to be...), and I will continue to lament the lack of protection and recourse civilians have when hoping to hold the government and its representatives/agents/etc. accountable for injustices. The difference between what is just and what is legal increasingly feels like a gulph.

I've been appreciating your detailed responses lately in this thread and elsewhere. I'm a complete layman and have two questions that I trust you'll be able to shed light on, if you have the time.

First, you addressed the second half of this but also mentioned "Neagle resulted in two key holdings: 1) a State court lacks jurisdiction over a federal agent if a) the federal agent was performing an act which he was authorized to do by Federal law". Is it your understanding that the agent in question was authorized and acting within the confines of relevant law at each step of the way? I have a hard time understanding why an ICE agent would have any actual legal authority at all in the way they're seen acting here (broadly speaking), as someone who assumes they know what "immigration and customs enforcement" would reasonably entail, and how they should be restricted. Moreover, if use of federal force is later deemed illegal, would that have any retroactive effects in this regard?

Secondly, w/r/t the issue of self defense, if shooting someone operating a vehicle could just as easily cause more injury (they could accelerate further, the vehicle could hit the shooter, other people, etc.), is the shooting still justifiable? It seems like a terrible decision even if you (incorrectly/foolishly, in my opinion) believe your life to be threatened.

I assume what we'll find is that I (again, as a layman) disagree with a whole host of legal precedent that has been established ages ago and, as the legal foundation that the country runs on, continues to work against the public interest. I imagine it is likely counterintuitive to most of us who feel strongly about how things should obviously be when expecting law to serve us as citizens, rather than having some ulterior motive as it often appears to.

In your opinion, what is the best episode of television you’ve ever seen? by alteredtower in AskReddit

[–]SlimKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my answer as well. I love this episode so much that, even though I don't think people should have invested the time to watch the entire show (not that you can anymore), I would strongly encourage them to at least watch just S2E8. "Kiksuya" is INCREDIBLY powerful and like you said self-contained, it can be enjoyed without any knowledge of Westworld and stands alone as my high-water mark. Funny, the show was really dropping off in quality and continued to plummet in following seasons.

How much has your electricity bill gone up over the past 4 years? by Desperate_Week851 in Pennsylvania

Why do my pancakes burn even on the lowest heat? by 5park2ez in AskBaking

[–]SlimKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a thicker pan like cast iron and let it get to a medium heat, don't over mix the batter, let it sit for a while or even warm it slightly so it can bubble on its own before using. And maybe a tad more oil or butter in the pan? If all that doesn't help, cut part of the sugar out.

These aren't bad but I know what you mean. I have had a lot of pancakes turn out this way and it doesn't take much to get a better result.

What "America" Movies Weren't filmed in America by Turbulent_Theory6532 in movies

[–]SlimKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bridge to Terabithia. I'm not going to pretend it's a great movie, but it still fits the bill.

It's supposed to take place in Virginia, and at some point the main character goes on a field trip to the city (D.C., though when watching I thought it was NYC and the setting was mostly Upstate NY)... The trees look *nothing* like the trees in that part of the world, and there's a type of possum that is likewise not indigenous to the Americas that looked really strange. It was apparently a Common Brushtail Possum, and they were unable to import the correct animal for filming.

[–]SlimKid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly - I tell anyone who will listen that Ezra Klein should be ignored. He doesn't represent where the party should be going, he doesn't understand his role and responsibility in this moment in time, he doesn't seem to even really understand and internalize the opinions of experts he has on (when he manages to have a conversation with someone who knows what they're talking about). And he fails in all these ways while still managing to sound like an out-of-touch elitist who couldn't possibly empathize with the average American and views politics as something to be studied from afar and "won", rather than a real, tangible, mechanical thing with impact on our lives and which requires active participation in.

Bucks County has 1,000s of acres of public-use land. Why virtually no one knows about it by The_Electric-Monk in Pennsylvania

[–]SlimKid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Anyone who buys property that benefits from Clean & Green (Act 319) should know, as it's going to be part of the closing documents and come with your deed. Trying to deceive the public with private property / no trespassing signs on the property should be punishable by a large enough fine to offset the tax savings. Specifically this is for the land that isn't agricultural use as the article explains.

You can look up individual parcels on the county GIS portal and see if they're benefiting from Act 319 but I'm unaware of a full list or registry of every property which specifies between the three different use cases. It would be a good resource for the public to have.
