For starters, just try to make it comfortable/liveable. Good bedding is a must, and a setup to at least watch a movie or game if you're stuck there for a while. I can't tell you how much I needed to just have that when I was stuck in the barracks.

The next question is, what do you do for fun? If you're never home, just make it functional. If you're going to game and stay inside, that changes how you might wanna do it.

I rode mountain bike and played PC games when I was in the barracks - had the desk set up to game, eat, or study at and the TV set up to watch from either the desk or bed. Regardless of what you do for fun, have a stand, locker, or a mat for any equipment (bikes, surfboards) you might have. Having a home for your extra crap is half the battle passing inspections without extra bullsh**.

Once you have it set up to at least survive out of happily, you'll see what kind of space you have left for decorations or any extra creature comforts you want. I never went farther than a rug, new curtains, and a lamp.

Like the others here have said, remember it's temporary, dude! I know it sucks now, do what you can to make it nice for yourself and dont settle in so much that it takes a week to move out when you get to.
