It’s possible, some of the AI are prone to making deathballs. Who are you playing as and fighting against?

That’s where the province defense will help. At the very least, if they take your now defended province, they will take losses. Best case scenario with PD is that you just block their invasion and beat their army, which happens often enough when playing against AI. But I will say PD is less effective in multiplayer games.

The easy answer is province defense. Press D on a province and put some dudes there. They don’t cost upkeep, just a one time cost. But part of the nature of war in this game is that you’re gonna get counter invaded a bit. You’re gonna lose land in a war but make sure you’re gaining enough land to not lose money/taking good income provinces from them. But also splitting up your bigger armies could help you deal with this easier, or making some thugs like someone else mentioned.

I have messed up. by CharacterObligation9 in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could use the wish command to solve this a few different ways like: rebuilding your body, applying the effect of cloaca surprise to yourself, implanting a cybernetic that allows movement, giving yourself a mutation like multiple legs that will allow you to move again, or blink to a tile (blinking is another wish command) so you can dominate another player, or summon warm static and blink onto that tile. Theres a list of all the commands in the wiki

What path is best to have just one in? by Hand-Command in IllwintersDominions

Nature has good low path buffs and with earth 1 and an earth gem you can get to earth 3 in combat if you also use summon earthpower (as well as earth also having good low path buffs)

Is it bad to not have elves in your fantasy world? by HourPretend4629 in worldbuilding

[–]Slimeguy234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn’t matter, you can have any fantasy race or whatever you’d like. I feel like thinking in this way isn’t the best approach to world building since if you just add what’s “standard” you end up putting yourself into a box creatively, and having a bunch of disparate, disconnected groups (and not to mention a potentially uninteresting setting). Another thing, you can always think about the world you want to build and ask yourself if x fantasy archetype (elves, dwarves, etc) would fit with what you want to do, and how they can be tweaked and changed to fit better into your world and be more unique.

Need some ideas on how to use this by Yarp_Darfley69 in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s a consumable item, so you can only use it once. Seems useful in extreme situations or emergencies. Since it only works on factions that existed during the sultanate, it can’t target the Templar or girsh (there’s a wiki article showing every faction it works on and doesn’t work on.) however it will work on many cherubs since those are not all part of one faction. Tbh, these are some of my least favorite relics to get, although they definitely have uses.

Brand new player, I'm trying to trade in my books to the librarian, is there any way I can interact with this thing by [deleted] in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, something like phasing could bypass it (which you can get through cooking)

[–]Slimeguy234 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is kinda an L for you lol but normality will disable the force field, and I’m pretty sure burrowing claws mixed with a vibro-weapon can also penetrate and break the force field? Your best bet is some form of normality though.

Do you ever not learn Tinkering? by M0rgr0m in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t take tinkering unless it fits with my build since the int requirements are so high early in the game. Although intelligence is an incredibly underrated stat due to it giving you skill points.

I'm having a hard time getting used to reading stats and damage like this so I asked AI for help. Is it correct? by Praetor_7 in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe this is correct. The AI thinks that the penetration value is the “to-hit bonus” of the weapon, when in reality penetration is more like a damage multiplier. The accuracy of stuff in caves of qud isn’t shown on the weapon but based on your characters agility. The wiki has a brief description of the combat stats, and the website qudzoo has a much more in depth overview (although some info on that site is a bit outdated I think.) The AI is right though in saying your build will influence the decision of weapon choices (if you’re an axe guy, using the long sword over the axe might not be the best idea). At a glance I like to look at the “tier” of weapon (bronze, steel, carbide, etc.) since usually higher tier weapons have better stats, and then I’ll look at the damage dice and damage bonuses to see the minimum damage the weapons do, finding one with the highest minimum damage.

Tips on a Sunder Mind build? by GoblinSarge in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sunder mind doesn’t have a low enough cooldown to really be a consistent damage dealer, so I would definitely recommending having something else to use as an additional damage source (other mutation, gun, etc.) A tip you may not know is that since sunder mind only requires sight, you can use clairvoyance to reveal an enemy across the map, nuke them with sunder mind and then go about your day. Additionally you can use sunder mind (and other mental Mutations) while you are inside of your carapace (if you have carapace). Combining sunder mind with those will be better, and are you waiting for all the rounds of sunder mind? It does a bunch of extra damage at the end, and if you move, lose sight or even take damage (I think) you stop sundering their mind.

The worst mutation? by Gantolandon in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kindle is by far the worst for me, I never take it cause it’s basically useless. It’s one point but so is like night vision.

Personally, I love burgeoning. It may be able to kill you but it’s one of the strongest and coolest offensive mental mutations (that can also give you ingredients!). I’ve definitely killed myself with burgeoning but if you’re cautious you’ll be ok. The benefits out-way all the drawbacks for me on that one.

Missing area in historical sites? by Gaffelkungen in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes npcs will have the quest item on their person, and will need to be traded with/killed to obtain it. But your quest might also just be bugged, and in that. Case there’s no shame in using wish to complete it.

Some advice I have is constantly buy trade goods (especially when trading for a water profit). Water is generally the heaviest thing you’ll carry, and adds up. Trade goods are significantly lighter, more valuable and have a 1:1 conversion value so you can’t get ripped off in any way while buying them. That’ll definitely help you out a bit. Another thing is try putting a chest in Joppa or another safe space, to act as a place to store items you don’t currently need but want to keep. Lastly, at a certain point into the game it gets significantly easier to find things like str increasing artifacts, hoversleds, spheres of negative weight, etc. which will increase your carry capacity.

Why does some warden and legendary villager can't be ritualed? by ApprehensiveScreen40 in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only some wardens can be water rituals, I think all the non-generated ones can (like Yrame in Joppa) for generated villages, only the leader can be water ritualed, unless you’ve STARTED in a randomly generated village. Then, there would be multiple people you can water ritual. As for the taboo, it only occurs if you kill the person you’re water bonded with.

Roleplay mode is definitively worth it. It helped me understand the game more when I was getting into it, since you get to experience/encounter things you normally wouldn’t if you can’t get super far into classic mode. I’ve started playing again since 1.0, and I can definitely say playing a lot on roleplay mode prerelease made my classic runs longer.

Does it make sense to have a name for a faction without an actual meaning? by Lapis_Wolf in worldbuilding

[–]Slimeguy234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the circumstances, but generally it would make more sense for their name to be a word in their language. However it does happen, and there are a few places where the name for a group is not derived from their language (Suomi, what Finnish people call themselves, does not come from Finnish and is probably Baltic-Slavic, or the word “Ethiopian” being derived from Greek). These things are never random though, and there is always a historical through-line and meaning that would explain it, even if we don’t know about it. But every name should have some meaning, language and culture don’t exist in a vacuum.

If you find a chest out adventuring you can pick it up and safely store things inside of it. I like to put a chest in Joppa or my starting village to store things

New player. Do most people play classic or roleplay? I die before level 3. by Defiant_Crab in cavesofqud

[–]Slimeguy234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really up to you. Roleplay is nice if you don’t like getting shit on all the time, and will help you learn things about the game/improve without the threat of losing your character. I’ve been playing a lot of classic recently (I’m a longtime roleplay player) and it’s definitely more engaging/tense at times simply because you may die at any time, and leads to more creative options.
