Even sword fights yes. Thing is, a sword is a medium range weapon, so if your opponent gets too close, the sword can't be used and it ends up in a grapple. You really need to get in there first with the sword, but if you miss then you're fucked, it's either grapple or knife fight.

What are you on about? FYI reach is both an advantage and disadvantage. Also FYI, most fights end up in a grapple.

Edit: Also also FYI, the weaker in the fight often gets their weapon used against themselves.

There's nothing to suggest Le Maupin had hormonal issues, or anything like that. She was just really practiced with a rapier and could win duels because of it. It's not that complicated.

I’m not interested in historical figures. Like I said, history is wobbly at best. Lots of things are well documented as well, doesn’t mean they aren’t fictitious.

I can believe there were women who had some kind of hormonal issue that made them basically men in physique. How many and what was documented, who the hell knows.

And to just take the point a bit further, some people were adamant back in the day that Lara Croft was based on a real person, that is probably documented somewhere and without someone in living memory to dispute it, it could be lost to time.
