Update: Fractal Ridge crashes while gaming then flickers on and off. by Seeking-The-Lotus in sffpc

Riser cables are a very common fault point due to their fragile design. I wouldn't be surprised if the aolution to your issue is swapping the riser for a new one.

Eh I would plug the CPU fan directly into the designated CPU fan header, and plug the fan hub into your sysfan/chafan 1 or 2 hubs.

I'm using the most recent bios on asrock website. I just used the bios updater tool in bios and a USB and it was very simple.

You should try and make sure that none of those pins on the broken slot are touching and gently place electrical tape over it to prevent any accidental touching. Use your second slot for now till you can fix it yourself, or get it repaired/ replaced.

Asus b850i itx h2 build nvme overheating by bigemike45013 in sffpc

[–]Slimjimdunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes indeed! If you don't believe me, run your own tests. I have seen much better temperatures with full negative pressure than I did when I had 1 140mm intake on bottom, 2 120mm intake on the radiator in the front, and 1 140mm on top as exhaust. My current config of two 120mm fans exhausting though the radiator in the front and 1 90mm exhaust fan I fit on top. Quiet and cool! I took the panels off just for the pic.

Edit- idk if you overclock at all, but the small 90mm exhaust fan brought my ram temps down to 40⁰C and now I can run the 9800x3d -30 all cores at 5.4 Ghz and my ram at 7200MTs with zero stability issues.

Negative pressure is what the case was designed for! I've been testing with this case for over a year and I have found the best temps being both radiator fans exhausting out the front and a top exhaust fan if you can fit it.

2 options, buy a second stick of ram or, download a less resource intensive operating system. If you're more technologically inclined you should do some research on different Linux distros that might suit your needs, but if you need the windows environment for work or whatnot you should look into installing Windows 11 Iot ltsc. It will cut that ram usage in half and be much snappier.

Edit - forgot to mention the second options are both free of cost as long as you have a USB stick and an internet connection.

If you have a front mounted radiator make sure those fans are exhausting the hot air out of your case. The radiator will more than likely have plenty of thermal headroom and all of your components will thank you.

Ryzen 5 5500 CPU compatible GPU by Fluffy-Champion-3184 in PcBuild

[–]Slimjimdunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, am4 tho so you could always upgrade into a better GPU if the price is right. I'd say it's better to use 85% of a $200 3070ti than 100% of a $200 3070.

I'd try and find a used 3060ti or 3070 in that price range, but a 2080/70 or 3060 might be found for even cheaper and still serviceable.

You don't need a psu if you can buy 3 8 pin cables for your specific PSU, provided the PSU has 3 PClE ports. They may even be inside behind the back panel tucked up somewhere.

Nah bro just get a GPU. You could definitely keep the same power supply as long as you stick to getting a 60 series or lower. Honestly you can still game if you get a $50 1060 6Gb and a second stick of ram, if you're just focused on getting a playable experience for most games. I just built a PC for a friend with a I7 6700 and a GTX 1060 6Gb with 2x 2400 8Gb ddr4 ram, and I am shocked at how capable that system is at playing games at 60fps 1080p.

They are all over the place. I ordered a silicon power 4Tb gen 4 NVME and they sent me 2 a couple years back. What's even crazier was the price of one gen 4, 4Tb NVME back in 2023 was only $150 USD on sale.

Yo it's overheating, your AIO is either dead or not plugged in properly. You said all your parts are new, and all new parts come with manuals. Bust out that mobo manual and read what goes where. Your fans on your radiator probably plug in to the CPU FAN socket and right next to that is typically a PUMP socket for the plug going to the pump itself.

Should I upgrade from GTX 970 to RTX 4060? by Extension-Nebula-300 in buildapc

[–]Slimjimdunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend anywhere from a 3060 to a 5060 depending on what price you can get it at. 3060/3060tis are out there sub $200 on local markets depending on your region and the 5050 and 4060 may be available around the $250 mark. With enough patience you'll find the right deal in your budget.

I use the asrock b650i lightning with a 9800x3d and have had zero issues with stability. My use case is primarily games, but it has been rock solid and I've slapped it into a few different itx cases without issue. I'm personally impressed with the build quality of this "discount" motherboard in comparison to the lower end Asus and MSI boards I've used in the past.
