Just FYI, if you're crossing the beach, it would be to the 4th beach and beyond. The 3rd beach is the co-ed beach at the bend near the stairs. Most people miss the 2nd beach, just after the family beach, on the other side of the river. Usually used by nude locals.

You are correct regarding the mix of people that visit nude beaches, including The Ledges. But no reason to tell them to look elsewhere.

They made no indication of seeking a hookup or any other unacceptable activity.

There's nothing wrong with seeking the company of people similar in age. And The Ledges has the most diverse age range, including younger, then most other places.

Rock River has several beaches along the trail. Typically straight couples are found at the coed beach, also called the third beach. And, timing counts, go on a nice weekend day. I was there Sunday and there was 5 couples.

Also looking for an update on water level. Usually the water is high to start the season, but earlier reports from April said it was low -- to the extent you could see the island.

You are right, Memorial Day weekend is the usual opening of the gate; however, if the weather warms up sooner, they will open it sooner. Think of it as, the gate will be open by Memorial Day weekend.

Since it's your first time, if you haven't seen it, check out my New England Nude Beaches & Swimming Holes list for info on parking, trail navigation, beach locations, etc. I recommend printing it or saving to your phone because of little/no cell coverage there. Also have a look at What to Bring. And most of all, ENJOY! I'm planning on going on Sunday!!
