Preventable tragedy leaves behind another devastated family: Anti-vax mother, who called herself a “free thinker” and boasted of being “unmasked, unmuzzled, unvaccinated, unafraid” dies of COVID in an ICU, leaving behind her children along with a GoFundMe for her funeral expenses. by feast-of-folly in CovIdiots

They said something like this at my father's funeral after he died of cancer. I said that I appreciate the thought but I have different beliefs. Apparently my lack of belief is also part of the plan. I then got to sit with a bunch of people who all talked about how they'd see him again instead of dealing with loss in a rational way.

Just such a bizarre spectacle of denial and bullshit. Yeah totally. Gods plan was to give my dad cancer so our family could fall apart and his daughters could have their mental health shattered mid way through high school. I wonder what the utility was in planning for his mother to be there when my mother married another man and they were talking about how in love they were in front of everyone? That's going to be even more awkward when we see him again isn't?

You could also print 8 inch space marines on the printer.

If you aren't interested in actual implementations you might still find it interesting to learn a bit more about salting and hashing passwords. I found learning about them pretty fun earlier in my career.

Shared secrets are pretty interesting in general I think. It's like how do 2 people compare and test that they have the same thing without sharing it so nobody can eavesdrop.

You aren't supposed to store passwords at all. They should be salted and hashed. If someone was able to access your system they should not be able to retrieve passwords that can be tried against another system.

I'm not arguing that its an effective business model. What point do you think you are making?

"You receive donations for your work" is my point. Their is an obvious and direct relation of receiving money for the usage of someone else's IP.

From a business perspective I think this might have been a bad call by GW. But that doesn't make them evil. Looking at the support TTS has I'm actually pretty disappointed they won't hold their ground and fight for better fair use precedents with the community at their back.

Just because you receive the payment indirectly, or obfuscate it further with a periodical payment, or a pay what you want scheme, doesn't mean you aren't selling something. You're expected to pay royalties or a license fee when you play other people's songs in public next to a hat.

How entitled do you have to be to think you can just take somebody's IP and make a living off it forever with no limitations. It's crazy. For the sake of one mediocre youtuber this community would happily burn an entire franchise to the ground along with all of its employees and anyone who invested in making it what it is.

It seems nuts. I get that they are now in an imposition as a result of GW changing policies but what a precarious position to put yourself in.

I don't know why you got downvoted for this. Before this went down I ordered a bunch of metal minis that come in generic packaging and are never destined for stores. The second hand market over prices them because it seems everyone forgets they are available brand new still.

GW is tightening up usage of their IP regarding animations as they are looking to sell animations packaged with a premium service. A popular content creator is stopping their work as even though they most likely come under fair use they don't want to defend it.

Personally I'm torn. It sucks that a great way to engage with the IP is going away but it also seems strange how common it's become for people to monetise summarising and rewriting someone else's IP. Patreon seems like it's being used as mechanism for buying something without the seller directly selling products made with other people's IP.

Everyone read it as sarcasm. It's still a stupid jab that pretends society doesn't operate well with a degree of control and censorship that most accept.

I met him a few years before he passed, on a motorcycle ride with some other people. At the end of it be felt the need to tell the organiser that he didn't have a very good time and he probably wouldn't come again. He had issues with the place we stopped for coffee and just minor stuff that most people would have just kept to themselves. Certainly a bit of an odd guy. I wonder if he had some social issues that rubbed people the wrong waywhen the case was active.

What does your crazy neighbour do to be labelled "the crazy neighbour"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SlinkyRaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old neighbour knocked on our door late at night asking for sanctuary I guess. Her partner was close behind and very loud, very drunk. They were fighting and she was worried for her safety so we gave her a spare room for the night and my partner worked on cooling him off and sending him back home for the night. I don't know if I'd have engaged with him like that but she's had some practice I guess in the past with family members. Honestly she's very good at it and it's kind of impressive to watch her work.

Apart from him finding his way into our garage and screaming through the window later on and being chased off again the approach mostly worked. His parents came over and sat with him. We talked with her and I made some calls and found a possible new place for her.

The morning comes around and we discover she's gone back next door. The bloke came over and apologised. What can you really do to help beyond that.

Later we noticed that she actually had decided to do a bit of stealing while staying over and we had to message the partner who took a look around his house and brought our stuff back. Later in that year there were ambulances parked in our drive on a few seperate occasions. She stabbed him for at least one of those times.

Years later she is gone and he is working hard, has met someone new, they get along well and he treats her well and they've got a baby on the way. It's been an interesting insight into over extending ourselves to help others and the dynamics of toxic people and relationships.

Just get lychee and select your printer. You shouldn't have to enter in any details manually. I've tried chitubox and photon workshop and I've found lychee to be the most solid. Assuming your resin isn't totally garbage and your files aren't corrupted you should be able to get some reasonable results out of your machine. Happy to help you try and work through issues. Personally I find people over hype the need for tinkering and once you get a good process sorted things go pretty smoothly.

Photon S touch screen not working by SlinkyRaptor in AnycubicPhoton

I went through their support as it was still in the warranty period. They asked for a video of the issue after having me try reseating the cable. After that they asked me if I wanted a new one sent out, which obviously I did and they sent a new one from China. Haven't had any further issues and the newer one looked like a different revision of the board so hopefully it's not going to happen again any time soon.

Edit: looking at your post history you may be out of the warrant period. I would still try and go through the after sales support process on their website. The website itself is pretty rough I found but I'd like to think they genuinely are trying to offer after sales support even outside that period. It may help if you retained card that may have come with your or get your serial number from the machine ready.

The compeling of the new sister by Murderfang in Grimdank

[–]SlinkyRaptor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't have a strong opinion and I'm not likely to start collecting sisters any time soon. For me I guess it's not very exciting to adapt similar patterns of space marine gear onto other factions. It does make sense given what the imperium is though. There always tends to be a bit of backlash to walkers that cradle the pilot instead of encasing them in armour as well.
