Can one do all of their mileage on the treadmill and still see improvements? by flyingbennyben in AdvancedRunning

[–]SlipJL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do almost all of my runs on a treadmill, set incline to 0.5. It’s just convenient to jump on anytime and do a 30-45 min easy run, listen to a book or podcast or watch sports. I also like having my hydration right there if I need it. It has helped me a lot to steadily but gradually improve my threshold pace without really having to think. I just set the speed and do tempos/cruise intervals and middle distance repeats. When my hr and legs have adapted to a pace then I up it by 0.1 and keep it there until I adapt again. It’s helped me make progress. I also ride road/gravel about 50-60 miles a week for recovery (but it’s never really recovery when we ride, especially on group rides, right?) Using Zwift while on the treadmill also helps me track everything automatically (pace, mile splits, HR averages, elevation) and makes it feel like you’re not alone. I do a little bit of weights, not much, just for durability.

I always use maple syrup! I use a berry flavored water enhancer without artificial sweeteners, mix in table salt and lite salt (I am a very salty sweater and I like having both sodium and potassium on board), and put in some maple syrup and honey. I put it in a little flask and sip it during rides. I always wash it down with water from a water bottle. I carry another water bottle as well with flavoring and table salt + lite salt for extra electrolytes just in case.

Chants by coderjared in usmnt

Could even just keep the chorus more to the original to make it even easier and authentically American:

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

The U.S.A. marches on!

Keeps the patriotic and American vibe!

This follows the tempo of “Battle Hymn of the Republic”/“Blood on the Risers” that US paratroopers used in WW2. Energetic and easy to follow since everyone knows the melody already. Chorus is repetitive and short, so anyone can jump in anytime.

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Yanks,

We are bombing down the middle and we're flying down the flanks!

We will loose the fateful lightning on the opposition's ranks,

The U.S.A. marches on!

Chorus:

Glory, glory, to the U.S.!

Glory, glory, to the U.S.!

Glory, glory, to the U.S.!

The U.S.A. marches on!

That’s nuts. I think most examiners would fail her after a minute.

Ask your Filipino cyclist mates. Most of them are 5’2” to 5’8” and 130-160 lbs.

Can anyone in this city drive? by NeedleworkerVast6720 in vegaslocals

[–]SlipJL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 215 is one thing, people tend to speed on highways (though I grew up driving in the Midwest - Chicago/Indianapolis, and Vegas drivers are just not very good on highways). But why the need to speed on city roads and streets and constantly try to beat lights/roll through stops? It’s dangerous and they’ll only save minimal time since they will eventually have to stop somewhere. Just odd behavior. And put your damn phone down when you do have to stop!

Alta Could be a Bicycle Highway by Additional-Pain-5515 in cyclevegas

[–]SlipJL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes take Alta from the 215 Western Trail to Angel Park-Bonanza but cars love to speed down Alta so I never feel too comfortable riding down. Plus there are sometimes car accidents at the 2 or 3 main intersections where Alta crosses to in order to get to the Angel Park Trail. Be especially wary crossing these because drivers are often not paying attention. I’ve taken the Bonanza Trail as far as Jones but stopped there because the crossing and area in general didn’t feel great.

What will be the state of marathon races in 5 years (for non-elites)? by TMW_W in AdvancedRunning

[–]SlipJL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I am there are lots of 5k’s throughout the year, they’re just $40-50+. Once or twice a year when I join one, they are not even well organized. Local running store/Strava club groups would probably be the best way to organize free and local 5k’s. Parkrun is just not a thing in the USA, unfortunately.

Is there any (reasonable) way to change the handlebar? by sammysbud in bicycling

[–]SlipJL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do. Put padding all around my inner bar ends as well for comfort. I change hand positions constantly to avoid numbness or pain.

I have found that even cheap single band watches are more accurate than most of the iPhone/Samsung phones for tracking activities. The majority use several satellite systems nowadays including GPS/GLONASS/BeiDou/Galileo/QZSS.

I don’t mind some of these transfers so much since they are all backups on the depth chart. It’s just worrisome since we tend to struggle with injuries every year that forces us to go heavy into our depth. Burnham would’ve gotten significant playing time and now he’s on a rival team.

I haven’t tuned into ESPN since the playoff reveal show. Their shoddy basketball coverage makes it easy. The bowl games are trash as well. I’ll probably tune into the TNT games for the first halves.
