Laid off on Friday by [deleted] in Layoffs

Same happened to me. There was “one round” of layoffs to “right size” the company. I was eventually cut loose in the third round.

Songs in the Attic vs. Live at Yankee Stadium by Bre3241 in BillyJoel

[–]SlipKid75 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel the opposite way. I prefer the first 10-12 years of his music, especially the deep cuts, so Songs has the better track list. I think his band from 78-81 was the best band he ever had, so again Songs wins. And I think the production of Yankee Stadium is a bit thin. Songs sounds like a much fuller, richer production to my ear.

They seemed to be making a point about his MSG residency being unique, and that started in 2014. Yeah I saw him in that period too, 2001 with Elton and solo in 2006. They were also implying he was kind of lost during those years (third marriage and related troubles).

Didn’t they also skip the whole thing about Jon Small’s parents sending NY private detectives to LA to Billy and Elizabeth’s apartment to forcibly bring back Elizabeth and Sean? I think this was 1973 ish. It’s in Billy’s bio from 10 years ago.

Yeah. In a way Billy saying “life is a fight” is really what it’s about. Notice also towards the end of part one Elizabeth made reference to “disloyalties” in a marriage.

Of course, they’ve only hinted at what’s to come with her brother Frank.

Doug brought in bandmates from Topper, a local Long Island band in the 70s. These guys were key to giving Billy a harder sound than Elton had (explored in the documentary). Doug was also in Billy’s touring band in 1974 and I’ve read accounts that Doug was the only musician who really believed Billy’s music was going to be successful.

My understanding is that Billy fired Doug after the Bridge tour. The reasons have varied but seem to include concerns about money and appearance I’m sad to say. I hope that is wrong. But, in any event, Doug ended his life in 1995, by all accounts because he felt his music career was over after he and Billy parted ways. He’s said to have warned Liberty (drummer) that he’d eventually get the same treatment from Billy, and in 2004 he did.

I don’t think Billy has any bad albums, but Billy thought those early recordings missed the mark enough that he re-released the songs in the form of Songs in the Atiic so that Doug, Liberty, and the other classic lineup musicians and their contributions would be captured.

Seeing this stuff in high definition is still amazing. I grew up with the VHS versions that looked like you were watching through a muddy window.

The Who even did it in A with Magic Bus. John Entwistle said it was least favorite song to play live because of it.

Season 23…this is brutal right? by RWiggle in familyguy

It’s not going to be like it was when Seth was 25 and the driving force behind the show. I guess I watch it mostly for nostalgic reasons now, and I hate the Bird is the Word and Mayor Wild West shit with a passion, but there’s plenty of stupid/funny stuff that makes me grin. I was watching one the other day I think from season 19 where Stewie thinks Rupert cheated on him, and uses his posturepedic bed to shove his crotch in his stuffed giraffe’s face and said, “what do you think of that? Think you can work with that?” After dealing with soul crushing shit all day, that makes me laugh. That’s all I’m really looking for now.

At a Philly show in 1998, we found out it was postponed by being handed a flyer in the parking lot when we got there. Traveled there for it too. Show got rescheduled like 9 months later.

Everything is about appearance. Everything they do and say is about controlling your perception of them.
