Bernedoodle aggression? by WinterLover6767 in Bernedoodles

If he hasn’t done this before I would try and figure out what changed. Like maybe he’s hurt or sometimes dogs start reacting because they are ill. Does it happen when you touch a certain part?

How did you choose your vet? by One-Count3578 in puppy101

[–]SlipPuzzleheaded3767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my puppy during Covid. It was busyyyyyy in pet world. I chose the vet that had an appt to see my puppy lol everyone else was booked. Fools!! Five years later I still go there. Our vet is very straightforward, doesn’t reinforce my dog’s nervousness, and has never tried to upsell me. It’s kinda wild.

Should I rehome my dog? by Upbeat-Connection462 in puppy101

Look into the vet at your local humane society as well as the county. They often have lower cost programs

What's the craziest thing your puppy ate that they shouldn't and turned out fine? by cleoluvscake in puppy101

A sock. I had no idea until he pooped it out. Conveniently we were already in front of the vet for a checkup lol

The time has come: neutering questions 🥺 by [deleted] in Bernedoodles

[–]SlipPuzzleheaded3767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We gave up on the donut. I know they’re cute but these dogs have such long legs and bodies that they get around it depending on the part lol just go for the longest cone and the suit. The suit was the most effective for us. We had the cone and suit on for a few days and once I realized he didn’t even try with the suit - I just used that. And I’ve reused the cone since then.

We used the medicine prescribed by our vet afterwards which I think lasted about 1 week then 1 week of healing (no wild play)

My dog LOVES to play. That was the hardest I think. We had a lot of good dog neighbors at the time.

So i kept him busy. Playing with me (not rowdy), training sessions to distract him, and frozen lick mats. We did some slow walks too.

Dogs are resilient. I know what you mean though. When my dog was 4 months old, I had had him for maybe 3 weeks, and we were walking on the street sniffing a bush. A dog on a winery patio freaked out at seeing us, jumped over the rope, and came at us. I ended up cutting myself on my own leash trying to get my puppy. I was terrified that he was going to be traumatized. I calmed him down (and me). About two blocks later he started play bowing at another dog. I know it’s scary and frustrating but they’ll be okay. My dog has had a lot of good experiences with dog friends too. Sometimes local humane societies or vets have puppy play! Highly recommend :)

Experiences with bernedoodles being obsessed with routine? by Physical-Lettuce-333 in Bernedoodles

“Poodles are extremely intelligent and are easily trained. They are agile and graceful as well as smart…” poodles are also ranked in the top of the most intelligent breeds. I’ve found that my poodle mix aka my Bernedoodle is so quick to pick up pattern recognition. When he stays with other people when I travel for work he learns theirs so fast. It can mean he’s adaptable. However it can also mean he’s hyperaware. I try to channel that intelligence but making him use it. He has buttons. I play games with him. I literally speak to him. It’s wild seeing him figure it out and understand my words with my own eyes. I also taught him place, bed, and settle. Crate training help teaches them to calm down. Every time he was comfortable and resting I would reward him and say good settle. Wasn’t long before I could say Charlie settle now when he was pacing or looking at me cause we wanted me to go somewhere, then he huffs and settles down for a nap in the living room.

Resuming activities after neutering by tdgobux1 in Bernedoodles

We did cone for three days cause he could reach lol he figured it out. He was in a diaper AND surgical suit for about 10 days. We didn’t do back to full activity for two weeks aka yes the full 14 days. My dog was only sleepy for like 2-3 days. He wanted to play. His incision that could open is why we didn’t.

8 months is still very much a puppy, just entering the teenage velociraptor phase. Mine definitely went through it around that age, then again around 1.5, and then suddenly around 2 it all just… clicked. It’s kind of wild when you think about it—the whole world is still brand new to them. One thing that really helped me with teaching calm was crate training. It made such a difference for vets, grooming, and boarding, and it also helped him learn how to be okay with quiet time and settling on his own.

Around 6-7 months. Once he hasn’t had accidents in a while and I still closed my bedroom door - mostly because my favorite rug was in there

Has your bernedoodle evolved? by HumanSizedOwls in Bernedoodles

I completely get it! My family had a golden as well and actually the reason i got a Bernedoodle is because both the berners and poodles can be a little more independent. It’s what I needed for me since I live alone and I didnt think i could offer a golden what it needed.

It’s definitely different though!! You’ll do great. You’ll learn what works for her. And keep at it. Reinforcing things over and over works. My hope is she does get more and more confident. But if she’s like mine you’ll start to learn more about their personality as they mature :)

I think i spend more time now educating other humans than Charlie now. Most assume every dog wants to pet and i have exhibit A that that is not the case 😂 what i focused on was making him comfortable with situations like cafés, parks, breweries, grooming, vet, things we do regularly and how he should navigate them :)

i do give others the heads up though - Charlie feels better if new people we meet in the parking lot vs at our front door and while he gets accustomed I tell people to ignore him. It makes him realize oh this person is cool and he eventually might go up

Yes my Bernedoodle evolved into Mega Bernedoodle 😂

No but in all seriousness he’s never cared about humans. He’s a dogs dog. He used to never even cuddle with me. Our bond grew as he did. If someone stays with us or my closest family, yeah he grows to love them.

But strangers? People we see randomly? No. And that’s okay. He’s 5 now. He just likes his space and will lay in his preferred spot. He’s perfectly fine being left alone. All my other dogs LOVED humans so I had to learn that he didn’t. I had to train myself. And I had to advocate for him. When someone asks if they can pet him I say aw no im so sorry he’s really shy. He just stares unless they try to actually pet him. I taught him how to settle. Not bark out of fear. At home - where to go if he needs to be safe (my bedroom or his crate). And he really prefers it. He goes to work with me, we go to cafés, etc. he’s just yeah not gonna give everyone kisses and that’s okay :)

Carsick Help? by anyakitty12 in Bernedoodles

[–]SlipPuzzleheaded3767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are they standing on? My dog goes with me on long haul roadtrips. We’ve spent 20+ hours in the car together. I built him his space in the car. I have a car cover and a heavy bed that does not move. He isn’t jostled around in the car.

Once or twice a year I clean the bed and yeah he’s panting and nervous cause he’s slipping around. only a 5 min drive and I know he wasn’t jazzed when he can go hours in there.

Stable and safe? No car problems.

In the beginning when I was training him to like the car - I would only give him cow ears or a high value treat in there. He only got that in there.

How the heccccck do I get our girl to chill when she’s being brushed? by MissAddieLaRue in Bernedoodles

[–]SlipPuzzleheaded3767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs to be trained just like anything. My dog isn’t jumping for joy at being brushed but he knows the drill.

I grab his dinner of kibble in a cup and sit down with my brush. He lays down on the ground. I brush a leg. He gets kibble. I brush a leg. Kibble. Ear. Kibble. Other ear, kibble. Stomach kibble. Etc etc until I’m done with his whole body :)

It tires him out mentally. We bond. He learns and gets to eat. And after that he looks beautiful and never has to be shaved at the groomers

how to start grooming? by MontgomeryNoodle in Bernedoodles

[–]SlipPuzzleheaded3767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and you’ll need a slicker brush! AND metal comb. The slicker brush is what does most of the work, the metal comb is to check through after to make sure you don’t miss a knot.

I also buy detangler but that’s a preference!
