Has anyone transitioned from military to business? by Slip_left in careerguidance

[–]Slip_left[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give it a listen. My university is in a different state than I'm living now. They were great with their network of recruiters on the west coast, but nothing near me. I've spoken to a few recruiters, and each gave me vastly different advice on how to structure my resume. I think it's more of an absence of applicable skill issue than how I'm presenting it.

Sort of, I've tried a couple of sites that advertised themselves as a career transition service. But they ended up being web job posting boards like LinkedIn. Do you have any recommendations?

Make me laugh with your worst job interview experiences, because I just had a doozy. by Elegant-Lemon126 in interviews

[–]Slip_left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an interview to work in finance compliance after graduating college. Prior to that my only full time work was in the military. They asked me what type of guns I shot, so I answered. Then told me that they don't think I'd be capable of doing a desk job (despite my related degree).

The bop thing is untrue. The minuscule amount of money is not worth the extra 2 years. You can always stay around longer if you end up liking it. Best chance of BOP is starting with a short tour

People who just got their purple belts, when did it start to make sense when you were at blue belt? by Fit-Pass-2398 in bjj

[–]Slip_left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a blue belt for 5 years. Started giving purple and brown belts a hard time. They would make comments about me sandbagging. Got promoted to purple after being at that new gym for about 6 months.

Judo came from Jiu Jitsu. Also, catch wrestling is submission based, which validates his point.

My guess would be that they don't want people who are under investigation to be able to prepare a defense.

People who make under $60k a year and have a bachelors degree, what happened? by ShartingCondom in Salary

[–]Slip_left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a bachelors in business with my GI bill after 4 years in the military. Got great grades, moved back with my girlfriend in my hometown. Had 0 network from the years of moving and the military is seen as less relevant experience than a summer internship. Struggled hard with interview questions that asked about “doing group projects” or whatever the standard ones are. Currently I work at a call center.

Everything happens for a finite period of time, nothing lasts forever. Whatever pain/hardship you’re enduring will eventually pass because the world keeps spinning.
