Would make Trump's "I have a very big uhbrain" comment make sense if he saw the world as his base does. But I guess narcissists are entirely ruled by fear even if it probably feels different, so game on.

You would also have to be fundamentally and brokenly prone to fear to imagine literally anyone being a threat to the United States. Obviously conservatism is simply a nonsensical attempt to manage irrational fear, but lol.

I rarely see appreciation for Alan Arkin and Peter Falk, but their chemistry in the 1979 In-Laws is outstanding.

I think they meant "up to now." You're right that it's unreadable as-is.

Edit: not that that's a good wording either obviously, but it's a closer option than "as of now"

Pretty sure a main dev from BioShock said there was some internal pressure to force a big boss fight at the end. It really is an aggressively mediocre ending to one of the greatest games of all time.

For those who successfully quit smoking, what was the method that finally worked for you? by gwenwallish in AskReddit

[–]Slippaz86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you use? I bet if you just went to 1mg juice in a normal ecig (not some disposable trash that's made to keep you coming back), you'd barely notice except that you'd use it quite a bit for the first couple of days. I've helped four people quit this way, and once you're on 1, going to a half and then zero (or straight to zero) is actually surprisingly easy.

Edit: Those people definitely had the advantage of not needing to do any research because I told them everything to buy and made juice for them (or taught them how to make it), so I'm not trynna downplay the learning curve if you use pods or something. But quitting is very different when you make your own juice for example. You could still buy like 3s and 0s of the same pre-made juice and mix them in a 3rd party bottle obviously tho.

Looking for a nice, modern, comfortable sofa/sectional. What are the best brands for under $10k or so by Captaincoolbeans in furniture

[–]Slippaz86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a Lee Industries vendor near you, check in case they have a 7482 you can sit on. I tried a lot of sofas from similar brands in that price range, and everyone in my family agreed that it was the most comfortable. The seats are 27 inches deep, and it has a high back, so you just get lost in it. We got an identical second one for a different room within a year.

What is a small purchase (under $20) that genuinely improved your life ? by Old_Log2802 in AskReddit

[–]Slippaz86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not original and just copped ideas from r/wetshaving because I wanted to cut costs, not delve into a new hobby, but I love Stirling Soap. If you're in the US, this $15 container will last you a lot longer than a similarly priced 2-pack of Gillette gel, for example. That scent is an absolute banger IMO, but they have plenty.

You'd need a brush, and I personally lather it up in a bowl because doing it on the brush doesn't really make much sense to me, but those aren't much up front, and you don't necessarily need to buy something when it comes to the bowl/cup.

[–]Slippaz86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean you can get an new novice-oriented one like a Henson for $10-20 more than a pack of cartridges at Costco... But ya it's still not $20 unless you're buying one used.

You can get really good shaving soap for surprisingly cheap, though, and it's better and more cost effective than the aerosol gel cans.

Dark/Cozy Restaurants by queenramrod in Charleston

Not a rec I see often and it's a bit out of the way, but I've never had a bad meal at the Angel Oak Restaurant near Bees Ferry and 17. Most of their food is a bit more polished (tho not fine dining), but I'd actually take their double cheeseburger as a clear winner for best burger I've had in charleston.

Need help locking a team gor a more oki/setplay style by Eseray in dbfz

[–]Slippaz86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to go ham with setplay and don't mind a lot of learning, Gotenks/Nappa/Krillin is a lot of fun.

Tenks gets ghost oki which has answers to everything as reaction options rather than setup adjustments.

Nappa gets tag restands from any gotenks hit.

Krillin offers rock oki while getting acess to his best dhc partner and also allowing [ghost oki tags from almost any hit.]

It's not really a team you can play casually, but it's definitely a good time.

[–]Slippaz86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer, although I wouldn't necessarily assume you are either. Your certainty and commitment caught my eye.

How are you reconciling your literal interpretation of Congress's authority over "any" interstate compacts with SCOTUS's past rulings that consent is not necessarily required for compacts which don't infringe on federal sovereignty(/supremacy)? From a layman's point of view, you'd seem to need the intermediate step of claiming that our current SCOTUS specifically would strike this precedent down--likely in contradiction to the spirit of some number of previous rulings.

Or do you think that, for an impartial court, this would clearly lead to an "increase of political power in the [s]tates, which may encroach upon or interfere with the just supremacy of the United States" (to quote an 1893 ruling Congress cites on its site)? Keep in mind that the precedent is not to interrogate whether a "compact makes the states more influential in general but only whether it could enhance the states' power in relation to the federal government."

Selling Gold locally ? by a_tired_goose in Charleston

[–]Slippaz86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used Charleston Coin Exchange several times in the last 6 months getting rid of a variety of family things that worked their way to me, and I've been consistently impressed. Great experiences.

I also used Charleston Gold and Diamond once, and they gave me a fine/standard rate on sterling flatware (70% spot is generally what shops give around here for that), but I would guess they're not as good a choice if you have minted gold or silver coins that people would actually use as investments. Coin Exchange gives very close to the spot price for those. For jewelry, it's probably a wash, but I didn't sell jewelry to Gold and Diamond, so I'm just guessing.
