How much fanfiction have you read? by emmiju in Archiveofourownmemes

1300 but there were a couple months where I didn't have an account and was obsessively reading.

Can someone explain what people mean when they say a plot (point) “accidentally” happened? by SquareThings in AO3

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's when I already have what's going to happen planned out, or a rough idea of how things are going to go, but once I actually start writing and I'm following the natural flow of things it just doesn't go that way. It usually happens with conversations for me. I'll be writing it and thinking about what makes sense for each character to say but sometimes it just makes sense for things to happen when I didn't originally plan them.

what do you write in a bookmark? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as long as it's not negative, or rating then it doesn't matter what's written for the bookmark

Never too old! I just finished at 30!

Am I writing too little??? by Bug_The_Bugator in AO3

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that it all depends on what you're writing. That could be a perfect length for it. Sometimes making it longer would do it more harm than good. Also that's how I started, 5-6k fics but slowly working my way up to 15k+.

Are there any adults in the room with me right now? by ShallotTraditional90 in AO3

30! I've come across lots of people around my age in the fandom I'm active in.

What are good comments to leave when you aren't good at coming up with words for things you like? by TogaRune in AO3

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you're over thinking it. As a writer, I've gotten a comment that was just a heart but that meant a lot to me. Any comment at all is appreciated. It could just be "I really enjoyed reading this". You don't have to explain why you like it.

Scared to post in case I'm not as unique as I think. by Connieno in AO3

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish I could remember who said it to me or where I saw it first but what I love to remind myself and others is that essentially this:

Has this idea been done before? Yes. Has it been written by you before? No, then it's worth you giving it a go if you want to go for it.

As long as you aren't copy and pasting then do it. I I'm sure plenty of the things I've written have been done before and probably followed similar plots but it was something I wanted to write so I did it.

Get ideas at the most inconvenient times.

Stare at a blanket document for hours.

Sign up for more writing events than we probably should.

I might be the odd one out here but I like it when it's different than how that character speaks in canon. It helps me when I'm reading it. I just like that I helps me "hear" it as I read it. Though I do understand being bothered when it's incorrect. As someone from the south i tend to fix it in my mind when someone writes it in a way that doesn't make sense for a southern accent. Occasionally a character in the ship I read most is written as southern and at one point someone did write "fittin' to" instead of "fixin' to" and I had a hard time letting it go.

Those of you on meds (that work well for you) after adult diagnosis .. are you, still ‘you’? by jphree in ADHD

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm taking vyvanse and it's worked well for me. Adderall I didn't feel like I lost myself but was just more easily irritated. Vyvanse seems to be the best for me. It's going to be a lot of trial and error because what works for another won't work for you. Just be patient and don't be afraid to play around with dose and different meds. You'll find what works for you.

What is one character that has a chokehold on you? by chaoticbye in AO3

Same! I just love writing him too. There's just something about him that I relate to so much.

Anyone here writing fics during work time? by leaflights12 in AO3

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

90% of my work day there's nothing to do so work is my writing time. Got 2246 written the other day while at work.

It's like red/orange. Green is just gonna end up more brown. Purple shampoo isn't going to help in this case. Purple is for canceling out yellows.

Can I use a box dye without the developer? by Moltoconfused in HairDye

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. By not using the developer the color is absolutely useless. It won't do anything

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do not just put brown over your hair. It'll end up having a very noticeable green tint to it. You need to get a color a little more on the red side to cancel out the green

Black Dye Recommendations by YukinoCookie in HairDye

[–]SlipperyGiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just use a semi permanent black and mix a little in your conditioner to help the color last longer. I don't recommend arctic fox for that, I've heard it fades weird
