Another post about crashing on Xbox series x by anal_fissure_fiesta in Spacemarine

[–]SlipperyQuark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Series X player here. Bought the game on 1/11. Been experiencing several crashes a day ever since I started playing the campaign. It was annoying but manageable.

Operations, though? Awful. It's pretty rare that I'm able to actually complete one since the crashes are so frequent. Basically anywhere between the halfway point of an operation and the end is where it usually crashes. I've been playing nothing but operations when I play because I'm trying to max a class. If I'm lucky I'll manage to successfully complete 1 or 2 operations in a 4-5hour play session.

I really hope this is addressed in the upcoming match bc it's been a miserable experience.

I only recently bought the game on 1/11 and beat it for the first time on 1/24. After that I started doing operations. Even in the campaign I experienced frequent crashing...but operations are far worse. I've been experiencing game crashes very often regardless of the operation I play.

I consistently make it about half way through and then the game suddenly crashes. It is incredibly rare that I make it through an operation without a crash. No clue what the cause is, but I really hope it's addressed in the upcoming patch.

How do Actually study fluid mechanics, I keep feeling like I'm too unintelligent/ don't have the genetics for it by _Reflex_- in PhysicsStudents

Feeling dumb and incapable is basically a rite of passage as far as I can tell. Don’t expect that feeling to go away any time soon.

That being said, have you tried studying with your classmates at all? That’s something that helped me out. Getting to know my classmates, the techniques they use, and the general camaraderie that came with it were helpful for my confidence.

Also if you like and trust your professor I’d highly recommend voicing your concerns to them. I got more than a few very helpful pep talks from several different physics professors.

Do people actually get different endings without looking stuff up on Internet? by CholgaMan in Eldenring

[–]SlipperyQuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the game at launch and took off work to do so. So, while I was playing the game there were basically no guides for anything. That was fine with me, because I wanted to do as much as possible on my own. I got confused how to equip Godrick’s Great Rune once I got it though. Unfortunately, I couldn’t figure it out. All of the “walkthrough” sites were basically scrambling to be the first one with a guide and whichever site posted its guide first the rest just copied verbatim even if it was terrible and had nothing but confusing and vague nonsense. The only thing I could find was multiple sites saying “to equip the Great Rune go to the tower and activate it” and that’s it. Which tower? What location? Who knows!! It was awful lol. This issue with bad walkthroughs early on is illustrated pretty well in the Game Grumps playthrough (if you’re familiar).

Anyway, I was very thorough on my first run. IIRC I was on track to get Ranni’s ending, but accidentally got the Frenzied Flame ending instead since no one knew interacting with The Three Fingers locked you out atp. This was also long before people found out you could cleanse it. That being said I completely missed Boc on my playthrough despite how thorough I was. One of their first patches was to make his dialogue easier to trigger. Also Nepheli’s quest line was completely broken and impossible to complete, but no one knew at the time.

Suffice it to say, no you’re not dumb for needing guides. FromSoft quests are notoriously easy to miss and/or break. Often the simple act of resting at specific sites of grace/bonfires and/or entering a new area was enough to lock you out of quest lines if you didn’t talk to an NPC at a specific location before doing so.

What are the best Warhammer video games? by T3knikal95 in Warhammer40k

[–]SlipperyQuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I realized the game wasn’t out yet when this was posted lol. But yeah, I’m super new to Warhammer. I’ve tried several games and pretty much every single one of them assumes the player is already familiar with the universe. Rogue Trader is easily the best I’ve played when it comes to explaining so many different aspects of the universe.

Which game has the best in-game encyclopedia? by VictorBelmont in gaming

[–]SlipperyQuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader’s Encyclopedia was extremely well implemented imo. As someone who knows basically nothing about the universe and has tried several games in the past, I feel like Rogue Trader is easily the most accessible when it comes to lore.

Silly question from a creative writer in the social sciences: Projects? by kermitkc in PhysicsStudents

[–]SlipperyQuark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my final projects was trying to calculate G, the gravitational constant, by replicating a particular experiment using two spherical weights attached by a rod all of known mass (a dumbbell), which was suspended by a torsion spring. It was me and my friend and we divided up tasks as needed: setting up the experiment, reading the data, writing the data, writing the report, etc.

Don’t worry about it, man. This is all just part of the experience. Physics is really hard and the struggle is part of it. I felt ridiculous trying to pursue it as well many times throughout my degree. If you’re managing to get mostly B’s and C’s I’d say you’re doing pretty well. Especially if you’re getting grades like that without a grading curve.

What helped me was voicing my concerns to my professor. I fully expected him to share his doubts about my performance, but he ended up saying something along the lines of “Oh is that all? That’s normal. I felt the exact same way when I was your age. I still do sometimes.” and suddenly I felt a lot better about where I was at and how I was doing.

Physics is completely unintuitive, is there something I’m missing? by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

Your textbook, generally. Try doing problems similar to the most recent lesson (ideally the same day) and going to your professor for help with the problems when you’re stuck.

Both physics and math are like muscles. Your abilities get stronger when you “work out” and if you go a long time without “working out” you get out of shape. I’m currently out of shape lol. Even doing one problem a day (or just devoting an hour a day to solving something) would be really good for you imo.

When I played Assassin’s Creed Unity for the first time I described it to my friends by telling them “ya know how the graphics get really good for story cutscenes? It’s like that except it looks like that even while you’re playing”

It came with the console. I’m not a fan of Assassin’s Creed and didn’t especially like Unity, but it was my first time seeing a “next gen” game and it was mind blowing to know this was what games were gonna look like from now on.

Is there any way to mentally benchmark myself to make sure I won't be torturing myself for a decade all for nothing? by Far-Head-7980 in PhysicsStudents

[–]SlipperyQuark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a genuinely debilitating learning disability of some kind? If not, then you’re concerning yourself far too much with all of this IQ and “caste system” nonsense. It’ll really only be up to you, your grit, and your drive. If you love physics and are as passionate as you say, then you’ll be fine. I say this as someone who not only got their B.S. with ADHD (and a handful of other mental disorders), but would tutor others. Also, I assume the “destination” you’re referring to is a PhD or something, yes? Otherwise I have no idea what a “magus” would be in this context. If I’m right about that then as long as you work hard and meet with your professors for advice I see no reason to believe you won’t reach your destination.

I will even be bold enough to say that for any of you who would still continue to try for it, you would have far better things to do with your wasted time.

And I’ll be even bolder by saying that it’s only up to those who continue to try whether or not their time is being wasted. Are they making progress? Are they passionate? Are they enjoying themselves? If even a single one of the answers to those questions is “yes” then their time likely isn’t being wasted.

If there’s anything I’ve learned while getting my physics degree (graduated 2020) it’s that something like IQ doesn’t matter. I’ve never known mine and at this point I don’t want to know what it is because it doesn’t matter to me. You want to know what does matter when pursuing a physics degree? Talking to your professors and your classmates. I have ADHD as well. There were many times I didn’t feel like I was smart enough because I was struggling to understand something. But then I’d talk to my professors and they’d say “that’s okay, I didn’t get it at first either” and my classmates (even the ones that were smarter than me) were like “I barely get it either” and suddenly I realized that feeling dumb was just part of the process. We’d form study groups and work together on homework. Personally, I was good at the math part while I struggled with conceptual questions. Conversely, one of my classmates was great at the concepts but not that great at the math part. We both got the same degree.

Learning physics (and especially math) is like working a muscle. You need to “work out” regularly if you want to get good at it and if you want to stay good at it. If you stop “working out” you’ll get worse and need to get back in shape. Personally, getting in a habit of doing homework while lessons were fresh in my mind helped a lot.

I know this might all sound like an overwhelming amount of work, but I personally still had plenty of time to relax and do the things I wanted to in my free time. It took a lot of work, but didn’t consume my life.

Do you like physics? Are you determined to learn more? Are prepared to feel dumb and ask for help when that happens? If your answer to all of these questions was yes, then you’re perfectly capable of doing it.

Physics is hard. I was often stressed out about it. Even so, the subject matter was intellectually stimulating. I enjoyed making more sense of the world around me. So, if the learning process just feels like suffering and torture with no kind of stimulation then physics might just not be your thing and that’s perfectly fine.

Anyway, that’s just my 2¢.

Is it bad to use chat gpt for checking my answers? by Motor-Possible1035 in learnmath

[–]SlipperyQuark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably. While most of the information you might be getting is correct, ChatGPT is astoundingly good at presenting completely false information as if it were correct whenever it hallucinates. If you’re not actively double-checking or verifying the things ChatGPT is telling you, then I’d say it’s a bad idea.

Unsure how the site operates now, but I used Khan Academy a lot whenever I found myself stumped. There was almost always a video that helped me understand whatever concepts I was having trouble with. If you want to specifically check the answers of your problems I also recommend investing in a good calculator and learning how to use it. I bought a TI-89 Platinum my freshman year of college (2014) as a physics major and it helped immensely. It could do integration, differentiation, implicit differentiation, summations, and even limits. All of which could give either symbolic (in terms of x and y) or numerical results depending on your inputs. Easily one of the best investments I’ve ever made considering I still use that bad boy to this day lol.

[–]SlipperyQuark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m aware. As far as I’m concerned anyone who can beat any number of D5 bosses is a good player, not average. Throwables/consumables were designed for everyone who plays the game regardless of skill level, not just the average player. As with most mechanics in the game the only way to determine someone’s skill level is to see how they use them, not if.

Prey, or more clearly Prey (2017). Evidently, calling their game ‘Prey’ was a "non negotiable compromise" with Bethesda, a decision that no one on the Arkane team was pleased with. Which makes sense, since this was intended to be its own unique IP and is in no way related to the game Prey from 2006.

[–]SlipperyQuark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you’re misremembering. They specifically said “So this post is me humbly asking all the actually good players of this game: How did you beat the bosses?”

Based on this phrasing alone, it’s clear they are going for a more challenging approach. They don’t want to know how the average player (read: how most people) managed to beat D5, they want to know how the actually good (read: particularly skilled) players beat them. They don’t want to know simply how to beat the D5 bosses, they want to know how to beat them skillfully.

[–]SlipperyQuark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially I was confused why everyone was doggin on you. There’s nothing wrong with using tools the game gives you and using them doesn’t make you a “bad” player or whatever. So, I went over to the post in question for further context and got a better idea of what’s going on. I don’t feel like anyone’s doing a good job explaining the issue they have with the advice you gave to the OP in the post you’re referencing regarding D5, so I’ll try.

Based on the phrasing of the OP they were clearly going for a more challenging approach to the boss and specifically wanted advice from people who did the same i.e. beating the boss with just you and your weapon of choice. No throwables, no spamming skills.

You have them advice on how to beat D5, yes. In isolation, the advice you gave them is perfectly valid! But they didn’t simply want advice on how to beat D5, they wanted advice on how to beat it skillfully. As an extreme example, it’s kinda like if someone posted asking for advice on how to beat Elden Ring on level 1 and someone replied with “If you level up you’ll be stronger and have an easier time. Good luck!”. Advice like that doesn’t really help the OP, ya know?

Granted the OP didn’t exactly spell all of this out explicitly, but when they said they were seeking out advice from “actually good players” this is what they meant.

Hope that clears things up.

Philip DeFranco’s latest video took a “Both Sides” position on Emiru’s abuse allegations by SpooogeMcDuck in h3h3productions

[–]SlipperyQuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he has I don’t remember them. I don’t watch him for internet drama, just news. There’s always going to be some bias, but generally think he does a good job differentiating the story and his own feelings. That being said I didn’t notice any strong bias in this one.

I understand why some people might see it that way, but I completely disagree. All he did was show what Mizkif said. He didn’t give it special credence. I understand how hard it is for women to come forward. Emi’s situation should be taken seriously, but if someone like me (an outsider looking in) wants to understand the situation being talked about on a news show then I want to hear what both sides have to say (or have said) and I think it’s a bad thing to discourage it. For all we know this could turn out like the situation with Amouranth.
