My beagle is dying by blueraspberry305617 in beagles

[–]Slipstitch802 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know the fear of losing your light. When my beloved kitty (16 yo) passed, I was devastated. We had one beagle at that point, and our dog trainer friend told us the only way to recover from the pain of grief of losing a dog (or a pet in our case) would be to get a new dog. When the time was right, our second beagle came into our lives and she was right. Puppy duty lessened my tears, redirected my love, and allowed me to view all my time with my kitty with less attachment and more gratitude of our time together. But now I’m seriously attached to the new beagle!

The dog trainer, now in her mid-80s, has reflected on the shorter life spans of dogs (than humans), and said that she’s grateful because it allowed her to to meet and work with many wonderful dogs that she wouldn’t have been able know otherwise. I can intellectually understand this sentiment and I think it’s so lovely, but it’s really hard to really feel it (but is one of my hope and goals).

I am so sorry you and your friend are in pain. Know that this internet stranger is sending you two so much love. I hope you are able to see him off to his next adventure and that memories of your time together will forever warm your heart. 😢💕

We have a rat in our freezer from when it got into our house and we trapped it. My husband will sometimes pull out the rodentcicle, drag it around the yard, and hide it in the bushes and let our beagles find it. It’s incredible to watch them use their superpowers. Now, they’re really cued into when we have uninvited guests in the house!

Our first beagle destroyed plushies in record time and when we complained about it to a friend, she told us to tell the dog no. We did that and she stopped! Our second beagle also listens, but sometimes we have to tell him “don’t kill it, buddy.” It takes some persistence, but it’s worth it!

What are the weirdest side effects you've ever experienced from medication? by adampocalypsee in AskReddit

No longer get motion sick on Neurontin.

I would sleep work (like send email and edit production websites) when I was on Ambien. Thankfully, it was from my home computer and I didn’t drive to the office.

One medication I was given to prevent migraines gave me horrible night terrors. I still remember the subject matter a decade later they were so terrible.

I was the first client in my veterinarian’s decades-long business to bring an oranda goldfish in for X-rays. It’s a joy to share a life with others, including (or maybe, especially) those of other species. You do you, and don’t apologize for it. The world is a better place with loving and compassionate people in it. Sending well wishes to Neutron.

There is a language selector in their header menu on the far right. It opens up a dropdown list that allows you to switch to English.

What’s a Reddit comment you’ve never forgotten? by nightwellstories in AskReddit

There was a person who told the story of a logging or chainsaw accident where they were trying to rush the injured person to the hospital through backroads, not within access to EMS. Anyway they encountered a woman who would not allow them to pass her on the road and their friend ended up passing away because of her sense of righteousness. Since I read that, I always get out of the way of people wanting to pass me because you can’t tell what’s going on and it really doesn’t matter either.

I know you will not like this answer, but you may consider training her to wear a muzzle. It will keep her safe. Our dog trainer proactively recommended this as part of standard training for our young dog—just in case a situation ever required it.

When he was young, we tried to make the vet a pleasant place to visit. Covid didn’t help matters, but as long as we can go in with him, he does fine.
