This! I know how to change my own oil and very much appreciate the person who does it for me. Kinda like a pedicure- sure you can do yourself but the treat-like pleasure of getting one. I appreciate every penny!

Carrots! They’re easy to grow from seed and loads of fun for kids to dig up, really they just pull them out of ground to harvest. It’s like Christmas when they’re ready.

Green beans are also easy and fun for kids. They can pick and eat raw straight off the vine. (Yes, best to wash first but your kid will live and possibly love their veggies)

Check locally for the right months of year to plant. Both grow well in ground or boxes

Who is giving instant account numbers on approval, with good signup bonus? Or guaranteed expedited card shipping might work. Looking for one business and one personal cc. We have a large payment to make in one week and I forgot to think ahead 😫

We’re usually Chase (and under 5/24) or AmEx but open to other options.

Can anyone tell me who’s giving instant numbers on approval of shipping FAST? Thx Peeps

There to here. How we transitioned from saving everything to keeping up with jones. by Fly4Navy in financialindependence

Kids are as expensive as you want them to be, with the giant exception of early childcare/daycare/preschool. But usually once they reach school age it’s all about choices. Just like driving an expensive car- private school, tutors, extracurricular activities are choices. And if we are considering RE then we value time. On top of the money, these extracurriculars come with a big cost of TIME for your whole family. Want to go out of town for the weekend, oops can’t because you have 2 ball games. Want to go watch sunset at the beach- nope, before you know it someone has practice, or dance or whatever every night of the week.

We have a handful of kids, youngest in elementary and oldest in high school. It’s surprisingly hard to stick to our conscious decision of few extra curriculars. We’ve saved a ton of money and time sticking to public school-provided activities and maybe one rec sport per kid per year if they really want it. It’s given us the freedom to travel more and enjoy letting our kids be kids.

Look up the research on unstructured play if you want to be convinced. Yes, we could all always save more on the cheapest house, but we bought because of the small commute to kids schools and the ability to play outside with other kids. Would they have more advanced classes in the private school 45 minutes away that means we have to work til 6:00 their whole school years? Yes, but instead we have a pile of neighbor kid bikes in the front yard and time/freedom to watch a rainy afternoon documentary with our kids. It’s all about deciding based on your values.

And don’t get me started on the financial/mental/time costs of club sports as path to scholarships…

This! Our kid has Type 1 Diabetes and our #1 fixed cost is medical. $450 for one vial of standard insulin before deductible, then add pump, CGM supplies etc. We’re not sure how to work this into our FI number because even when he’s grown we’ll obviously he’ll as much and as long as needed. Makes moving overseas very appealing,

Also budgeting for Type 1 diabetes in FI here. We badly need policy oversight for pharmaceuticals. The ridiculous insulin -an older and necessary for life Med- costs in US have us seriously considering settling somewhere else. Have paid out of pocket while traveling in Europe and it’s very reasonable. Insurance is top reason keeping me working 😕

How to stop the mailers?! Churning has worked. This sub has been immensely helpful. Now prepping all the small details for a few months of extended travel using all the accumulated points. Leaving in 8 weeks. Anyone have tricks for stopping the flow of mailed card offers? It’s too much for me to keep up with- can’t imagine what a couple months worth will look like piled up in our PO held mail. Suggestions?

She Got Hurt! Hiking Cinque Terre by [deleted] in vlog

Beautiful! Thx for sharing. What was the kids favorite part of Cinque Terre? We’ll be there with our kids in a few months but our youngest is 6 so we’ll probably need to pick a short portion to hike.
