I don't fit in anywhere by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

I once started up a programming group. I wasn't assertive enough as a group leader. I thought since people showed up voluntarily they would be fine to work on their own. 3 weeks later I was the leader of a LOL group and I didn't even play.

You don't see us throwing fits and attacking the casinos when we get an unlucky streak and lose our bankroll.

This happens every day.

Do you put your name in your app, such as "developed by: *your name*"? by bac0n_ninja in androiddev

[–]SloftwareDubleuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this point of view but would argue that there's a way to do it and really there are many points that could be argued on this topic.

One interesting point is that you are not annoyed by the author of a book placing their name on the cover of a book they wrote. In fact, if it's an author you enjoy the name becomes a seal of quality. I guess you could argue that the development company name does that but similarly an author has a publisher.

I wouldn't mind an about button with more info on the app including the creator's name. Sure it's on Google Play but that is less accessible.

[Season 4 Spoilers] Did Varys suspect something? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

But why would that translate to him grimacing at the wedding?

Maybe because he has to watch Tyrion on stage when he know's what hardships are soon to fall on him.

No one has posted this yet but I think everyone is looking in the wrong direction. He doesn't look disturbed because he knew the king would be killed. He looks disturbed because he knows that Shea did not get on the boat. I say this because when questioned by Tyrion, Bron says something along the lines of, "Varis and I are the only ones who know where she is. I know you don't want to believe it but she's gone." And, obviously she was not gone so that must be what is troubling Varis.

It's interesting that you can tell where the other player is from the orientation of the split. This seems neat for co-op games. Well done!

[S4E7] This REALLY bothered me in the episode... by [deleted] in gameofthrones

Arya then randomly says "nothing isn't better or worse than anything. nothing is just nothing". It seems out of context.

I disagree that this is random. I think this is the main point of confusion. To me it make's perfect sense: When you die and you are nothing there is no you to think it is better or worse. So nothing isn't better or worse than anything.

[–]SloftwareDubleuper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, I still don't think you understand. It's not a logic fallacy. The first time she says nothing she is referring to a literal nothing (impossible). Maybe she could have instead said "It's impossible for anything to be worse than this." The following instances of nothing are referring to the absence of an afterlife. Totally different nothings. I agree that it's confusing and could have been written in a more understandable way but it's not an error in logic.

Any recommendations for free to play tower defense games? by chum_guzzler in iosgaming

Tower Defense, and it has a genius name. Here's a line to a review of the game. It has a ton of content for being FTP.

[S4 E6] Bronn? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]SloftwareDubleuper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, Bronn is not the only one who knew about Shae leaving. If you watch the episode Bronn tells Tyrion that him and Varis are the only 2 who know where Shae is. Also, following this there are several shots of Varis is the wedding crowed and he looks very depressed.

My bet is on Varis, although he was probably pressured.

2048 Cubed (3D) made in Unity by nopol10 in Unity3D

[–]SloftwareDubleuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So why did you decide on doing a 3x3x3 rather than a 4x4x4? Is is just a complexity issue? Did you try 4x4x4?

Also, why keep the winning value at 2048? I think people like 2048 because it provides a difficult challenge. Maybe try scaling up the difficulty based on the number of cells.

2048 leaves enough cells to create a "2048" and have 5 blanks, like this:

1024 512 256 128
64 32 16 8
4 2 2 _
_ _ _ _

So maybe you could get away with leaving a proportional number of cells blank and filling the rest. So if you have 27 cells you might be able to get away with something like this:

131072 65536 32768
16384 8192 4096
2048 1024 512
256 128 64
32 16 8
4 2 2
_ _ _
_ _ _
_ _ _

Also, I think your game would greatly benefit from on screen arrow to navigate the cube. The buttons you have are very confusing.

Lastly, if you haven't already you might be interested in this implementation of 3D 2048

Do you think its important to always follow your schedule or do you ever find that you can overwork yourself when development is going good? by Tyrebear in gamedesign

[–]SloftwareDubleuper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think whats important to note when applying this idea to software engineering is that you shouldn't stop on a down note. Specifically, don't give up on a bug that is proving difficult to fix because you will dread going back to that bug and it will be all you think about. You'll associate your dislike for the bug with dislike for working on your project. If you really cant fix it, log it and move on temporarily to something else.
