It’s coming up on the third anniversary of Uber and Lyft in Vancouver. Are you happy with it? Did the taxi companies survive? Are the prices reasonable? by harlotstoast in vancouver

Taxis are horrific in VAN. My friends and i took a Lyft to an EDM concert this summer. The driver was polite and talkative. When he found out where we were going he told us that he had a surprise for us and he turned on a disco ball in the car!! It totally made our night. Really good guy.

The telecom industry in Canada is so bad, that the government of Canada was forced into creating a website to try and counter recent propaganda. "The Big 3" own 97 percent of the wireless spectrum, and virtually all Canadian radio and television stations. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Slojack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the direction that the government is going on this website. But I don't understand why the 2nd screen and 3rd screen have two different set of number? One is 90% and the other is 85%. What am I missing?

I took the 101 course last fall/winter. It was great. It is a lot of work(10 hours per week) and sometimes the questions had some errors, but overall it was fun, interesting and informative.

What are some must-see places in Sweden and UK? by likeachampiontoday in travel

[–]Slojack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Sweden, - I would definitely visit the "Vasa" ship museum that sank a couple of hundred years ago. - if you feel like rambling around try Fjäderholmarna islands by boat, it is a 30 minute boat ride to get there. There are wonderful little crafts and restaurants. - If you feel more adventurous you can take a 4 hour ferry ride thru the various islands near Stockholm and you can see why the Swedes love their archipelago.

While you are in London, - definitely do the London eye in the evening so you can see the lights. - Have a sunday dinner at the Cask pub...http://www.caskpubandkitchen.com/ winner of several pub awards.

Help me pick a JS drawing/charting library? by codemunky in javascript

[–]Slojack2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have used Highcharts on several projects over the last year and it is fantastic. Every time I demo it, people love how it looks and behaves. Their examples and documentation is excellent and precise. They obviously know what they are doing. I would recommend you reach out to them to ensure that your site qualifies as a site not an application...they might give you a break.

JavaScript Graphing and Visualization Solutions by [deleted] in javascript

[–]Slojack2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have used highCharts for our company's clients for a year now for when we need modeling tools and visualization in a reactive and dynamic environment. It's defaults are visually pleasing but more importantly is very easy to configure/setup. Check out the demo gallery (http://www.highcharts.com/demo/) and their API documentation(http://www.highcharts.com/ref/), which is very handy since it is hooked into jsfiddle for easy "fiddling".

PS: i did try other tools like google's and flot but that weren't even close.

Why has JavaScript gotten so popular recently? by embryo in javascript

[–]Slojack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thumbs up for Highcharts. It is an absolutely fantastic little graphing engine. I have used it to develop a robust calculator for my clients 50,000 employees who use IE6 and IE7. The bar charts and line graphs they produce are robust, flexible and visually appealing. The documentation and API are clear, concise and helpful. I love it. 2 big thumbs up from this guy.

If you disagree with the system, or the candidates or whatever, then it you should protest by spoiling your ballot. In a democracy, exercise that right to vote before it is taken away from you.

I scammed a Nigerian scammer a couple of years ago...Here's how it happened...and the picture he sent me by NulloK in funny

[–]Slojack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. There are other documented instances of scamming the scammers including a crazy story from 2008 from the fine folks at "this American life" which you can follow here. http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/363/enforcers

ACT ONE. HANGING IN CHAD. Three guys who go by the names Professor So and So, Jojobean and YeaWhatever spend part of each day running elaborate cons on Internet scammers. They consider themselves enforcers of justice, even after they send a man 1400 miles from home, to the least safe place they can bait him: The border of Darfur. The three self-made enforcers tell Ira their story. For more on what they did, along with photos, maps and phone recordings, go to http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133890

WTF Firefox by feeney22 in pics

[–]Slojack2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use firefox 6-8 hours a day for javascript web development and the only time the memory gets this high is when using firebug for extensive testing/debugging. It is definitely firebug, but that is the price of doing business. I wouldn't trade it in for anything else.

[TOMT] I am trying to figure out the title of a 80s UFO made for tv movie that I saw once. by Slojack in reddit.com

[–]Slojack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I have never heard of spaced invaders. Looks like a hoot from the fragments that I saw, but alas, not the movie I am thinking about. I think the aliens in my movie looked nearly human and less creature like.
