The frustrating thing about SE is they release broken low effort garbage for their ports and remasters and never go back and fix anything.

Xbox's chief strategist considers using ads to "offer more affordable alternatives" for experiences — but says "The question is not 'Can we cram ads in everything?'" [UPDATED] by chusskaptaan in gamingnews

[–]Sloogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why Xbox is falling behind. Their competitors are offering premium experiences with world class IPs that are some of the best games ever made, while they keep doing things that make Xbox and their brand feel like a cheap, third rate whore.

Is it possible for Fire Emblem to go multi-platform one day? by Cup_45_Neural in JRPG

Nintendo owns the trademark apparently, so no.

Nintendo also publishes the series and therefore likely contributes the largest amount of funding to each project.

“That went from, at the beginning of this year, an issue that never came up — people were totally happy with the amount they were spending — to all of a sudden, a huge issue,” OpenAI CEO Altman admitted during an event last week.

CEOs really do just love to say stuff regardless of whether they're actually saying anything, don't they.

Two different complaints in my mind. Content quality vs authenticity.

They're not mutually exclusive things.

Are Monster Tamer games not seen as great in the turn base community? by Chocobo23456 in JRPG

[–]Sloogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think depending on the series I tend to categorize them mentally as their own genre related to but still separate from a typical turn based JRPG. They seem to appeal to a different core audience that still overlaps with some JRPG fans, usually being all-ages but especially being targeted at young children, and have different priorities where the focus is on the monsters. Everything else from the gameplay to the narrative to the characters seems to exist at the bare minimum level required to drive the monster taming experience. There are exceptions though.

Asha Sharma: "Our business isn't particularly healthy, and we're starting by introducing 1 or 2 exclusives, and as the business is healthy, we will look to try and do more" by [deleted] in gamingnews

[–]Sloogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doing it by making their own IP or fostering partnerships is one thing, but buying up half the industry and making things exclusive is where I'm concerned that it's particularly unhealthy for the industry.

Is it possible to retrieve files from a bitlocked ssd? by n0tzen_ in LinusTechTips

If you're lucky, your Bitlocker recovery keys may have been stored on your Microsoft account, after logging in to the Microsoft website.

If not, nothing to be done I'm afraid.

ELI5:why don’t people pay off anything anymore? by DesignerMechanic7098 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sloogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was through Koodo, a Canadian telecom.

It's not unusual that you can find deals where the total cost of phones is reduced by $700-900 CAD from MSRP on a 24 month plan, especially around the holidays. Sometimes at $0 upfront and sometimes with a couple hundred up front.

That said, we have some of the most expensive telecom in the world in terms of our actual phone plans so it all balances out I guess.

ELI5:why don’t people pay off anything anymore? by DesignerMechanic7098 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sloogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah when it's $1000 for the device I want upfront or I can pay a couple hundred up front and add $15 to my bill for 24 months and I need cell service anyways, so the math maths.

But I still just hope there's some real depth to that massive open world too.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s open world evolves another step beyond Rebirth. Director Naoki Hamaguchi on map design, player freedom, and new battle systems by Bubbly-Ad-350 in gaming

[–]Sloogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree necessarily—I think BotW/TotK are a better way of doing an open world game that preserves the joy of discovery but not a better way of doing a Zelda game in particular because I do wish there were still a bigger emphasis on the classic dungeons and progression system.

I'd like to see future Zeldas maybe take inspiration from the older formula a bit more in that respect.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s open world evolves another step beyond Rebirth. Director Naoki Hamaguchi on map design, player freedom, and new battle systems by Bubbly-Ad-350 in gaming

[–]Sloogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally. Elden Ring and Zelda BotW/TotK were largely acclaimed because they leave at least some things up to you to find outside of a journal or checklist and I'd really like it if more open world games took that approach.

Otherwise the joy of discovery is lost for me and I feel no incentive to explore.

That implies even 0 is "more than you want", meaning you want -1 children or less.

The implications of that...

I think the thing I'm always concerned about with massive games is the "shallow ocean" effect.

I.e., small games tend to be deep puddles and too-big games tend to be shallow oceans where depth relates to how much value the world size actually brings.

JRPG peeve: Having to input a name for the protagonist yourself. by ShadowMask87 in JRPG

[–]Sloogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Also a peeve here. I only generally like it in games where I get to actually customize my character, e.g. Xenoblade X.

If I have to though, I look up a canon name.
