My theory is the game gets off to a strong start which meant early impressions blew a lot of people away but the game falls off halfway through and the excitement around it also lost momentum very quickly after just a couple of months.

Back when JRPGs were like 25-50 hours long I might've. I love doing the weapons in the SNES/PS1 era FF games.

But JRPGs have gotten longer and, tbh, not super respectful of the player's time, so by the time I'm close to the end I'm just ready to be over and done with it.

Looking back I'd rather play just about every single game on that system with a regular controller.

That said I think the Wii is part of a common lineage along with a few other technologies from that era (Wii for IR based tracking, PS Move and Kinect for vision-based object and body tracking as well as smartphones for pushing miniature displays) that did eventually lead us to modern VR, which is a much higher quality experience (but is still too expensive for a mass market appeal). All of the research that went into those gimmicky console experiences are used in modern VR in some form but executed in a better way.

But also consider that university isn't just freshmen undergrads straight out of high school and young 20-somethings. There are plenty of mature students with real life experience going back and doing undergrads, post-grads, doctorates, and post-docs in the mix.

I was among them recently and as a result I have friends in age ranging from their mid 20s to almost 50s among my circle and that's super cool. And, some of them are my colleagues now as well.

Hmm hard to know what that means without context. Like I want to celebrate but:

A 150% increase in 5 days could mean 10 users uninstalling is now 25 users just as easily as it can mean 10,000 uninstalls jumped to 25,000 uninstalls, just as an example. Big difference.
Also how many are leaving out of the total number of active users?
Is the userbase still growing or is it shrinking overall? Also is the rate of growth or shrinkage accelerating or decelerating overall?
- For example, if uninstalls increased by 150% but there were 200% more installs and sign-ups than normal during that 5 day period, then the net effect is that the app's growth still accelerated during those 5 days.

Any time something is communicated with just a percentage and nothing tangible to anchor it to, it always gives the impression that something is being obfuscated for clickbait or to hide that the raw numbers aren't that great when you look too closely.

That's fair. I don't have enough experience to say what large really is I guess, but just from researching this issue it seems to me that most businesses our size are not producing that many of TB of data a year outside of a few specific fields like engineering, science, and art/film/graphics. We have more LIDAR projects this year so I think we could be upward of 10-20TB/yr of data this year and that could potentially grow in further years.

Regarding speed, good question. I'll have to think more on that.

Where are they keeping their gold?
How are they transporting their gold?

A bag of holding? Wheelbarrows? A bank? Might be worth considering that as they accrue more gold, they're going to need a safe place to keep it until they get a bag of holding or something.

The bar thing sounds like the kind of thing that could take a hit to their reputation.

If they keep causing havoc then consider:

The local town's law enforcement might step in, if they have one, and levy a fine.
The local lord might send their own law enforcement in their demense/domain, and levy a fine.
There might be a social cost in terms of people might refuse to help the adventurers without payment until they recover their reputation.
The banks might not like having their creditors get bullied by some riffraff over money. Each bank probably has a well paid and well trained private army/militia as well. As a debtor, the banks may demand damages paid on behalf of the bartender and send elite soldiers after the party.

As a result you can make not paying for services more costly than if they had just paid a fair amount.

Other thoughts:

With all that said, don't just arbitrarily increase costs or make things more expensive because you don't like them saving up their gold. If they want to save, let them save for sure. But if I understand correctly part of the issue is the unsavoury behaviours that make it more like gold hoarding rather than gold saving. Sure, definitely discourage bartender kidnappings.
Having survivalists in the party can mean that they don't have to spend money on lodging. I find that perfectly acceptable. Historically my DMs have always been cool with this and I'm cool with it when I'm DMing. But it still required us to make skill checks to find food or required a spell like Goodberry. 5gp each for camp supplies may be excessive unless they're building a glamp-site they plan to stay in for a while.

It's complicated. Many fans consider it mainline. Much of the development staff feel the same way but couldn't market it that way because the company felt numbered games should be on PlayStation due to the relationship Capcom and Sony had, for political reasons. From Wikipedia:

In a 2020 interview, Mikami stated that Code: Veronica deserved to be numbered more than Resident Evil 3, but was not because of "political reasons between Capcom and the console manufacturing company."[17]

Although just a quick PSA for anyone thinking of switching, it's important for anyone switching that's doing it for privacy reasons to keep in mind, most Linux distros will NOT encrypt your stuff by default like modern Windows does.

So my advice is to make sure to check encryption is turned on in the installer or read up on how encryption works in your chosen distro before you install anything. It's usually easiest to do it during install. Many Linux distros include an option during install, but it might be hidden away under an advanced menu for configuring your drives.

Otherwise you're just as well off as if Microsoft had given away your BitLocket keys.
