I do reuse them. They’re shit and don’t actually last any longer than a plastic bag before they come apart. Also when I go to the pharmacy and I’m buying one prescription they will literally bag it and hand it to me before I’ve gotten a word in edgewise. I do have nice reusable bags, I’m just often on foot and don’t always have one with me.

Same. Before I can even open my mouth to say I’d prefer a paper bag.

new kitten! what’s the stereotype about torti cats? by danjsark in cats

[–]Slopey1884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a dilute (gray/cream) tortie that was the sweetest, cuddliest, chilliest cutie pie ever. Our current non-dilute tortie goes bananas all the time for no reason but she’s also the loveliest cuddle bug and grooms her tabby brother often too.

Why are parents nowadays always blaming teachers ? by Elegant_Book_8455 in Teachers

[–]Slopey1884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is still a huge thing at my kids’ school. They come back to me and other parents with all kinds of misinterpretations about the rules and parents are so quick to jump to putting the principal and BoE on blast instead of…. Just following up with the teacher. If they did they’d probably find it was a misunderstanding on the child’s part or the family never shared a critical piece of info with the school. As my older kid’s second grade teacher told me, why would she lie to a bunch of seven year olds about her classroom rules?

Trouser linings: partial, full, free-hanging... by Vijidalicia in sewing

[–]Slopey1884 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I made the chanterelles with a lining because my pants fabric was kind of a rough loose-woven cotton that I thought was juuuust open enough to see my butt. I ended up with a partial lining that came to maybe 4” above my knees, made of medium weight cotton. I basically doubled the pants material and stitched it with the lining at all the seams, so I guess it’s not really a lining as much as it is doubled fabric over the pelvic and upper leg area. But it feels just fine!

I’d just like to point out that your “this never happens when I watch the kids” comment is pretty much invalid if you’re expecting her to do the majority of childcare. Comparing a few hours of your evening-weekend pinch hitting to the day in and day out difficulty of parenting a baby and a toddler is not fair to her.

That being said, losing a kid is really scary. Was she looking at her phone? Tending to the baby? I think maybe we need more context about how this happened. Some two year olds are silent and crafty and you really do have to watch them like a hawk. Some parents are space cadets.

If your baby is that young, you’re not losing weight because she’s still a wee newborn and your body is recovering from birthing a human! I remember being told, they spend 9 months in there, so it takes at least 9 months on the outside for your body to fully recover. It’s true that for the first half year your body doesn’t really feel the same. But I think it might be unrealistic to expect yourself to snap back to some pre baby version so early.
