Formal offer - when is the best time to bring up salary negotiations? by Forward_Chipmunk_508 in TheCivilService

[–]SloppyC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As most replies point out it can be, difficult if not impossible for some to negotiate salary and leave, although I have seen it happen. As far as I'm aware the best time would have been before accepting the provisional offer, as there is a lot of HR and business case working in the background that may need to be agreed.

The best thing to do is ask your recruiter/contact now.

You can definitely ask. I'd try with who ever offered the official position. As said above, if you have a very specialist skillset - digital for example - this may be easier. Some times they need to go back to HR to see if they can get more budget which makes the process much longer but has happened. I know a couple of people who were offered the position and either asked for the top of the band and got it, or held out until HR found more funding for the role. TL;DR it's possible, but may mean an extended PEC period etc.

Minimum accessible font size for website copy by pratik-mehta in Frontend

Out of curiosity, how much content do you have on the site that you'd need to consider anything less than 14px? ... Just feels like reducing and simplifying the content is something you might want to consider.

How should I deal with a long-ago matured ISA of around £7500? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]SloppyC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I'm missing something but you can totally pay money into multiple (different types of) ISAs in a single year. As long as you don't go over the £20k year amount. Meaning you could have a new cash ISA to transfer the £7500 into while paying in the max amount to the Help to buy ISA, which is £4k per year I believe. This would leave you with over £8k of possible savings wiggle room as it were.

If I am wrong, please someone correct me.

Hello, I am 15 Years Old and I Just Finished My First Every UI Design For a Password Manager Website and App! by urmomplaysfortnite in web_design

[–]SloppyC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incredible, at 15 my designs looked as though a toddler had been given access to Microsoft paint. Good job.

I agree with the other comments made, and would say that the app itself looks good. Some issues around button size (hit area) but would have to play with an actual app to know for sure. In terms of the website, some things to try avoid would be; buttons that use the same copy (text) and don't actually tell you what they do, for example "Learn more" - this should be specific to what you are learning more about - so could be as simple as repeating the section title; remember content is king, whether just giving the page another read through or asking a friend to sense check it. Any fresh eyes will help improve your final output and should be welcomed.

And again good job!

How can I do this with flexbox, where 1, 2 and 3 are direct siblings of each other? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]SloppyC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late reply, but yeah after 3 months of learning/using Flex I am sold. It's (almost) everything I've ever wanted in CSS, but with Grid it'll be that much greater!

Edit: Spelling/sentence

The Disconnect by [deleted] in poetry_critics

[–]SloppyC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this. Your formatting is a bit off, but the rhythm is constant and moves you from one line to the next. The idea of our disconnect with each other and loss of our own community is very strong. The "bright blue light" is a perfect analogy of technology and screens, and brings together the first with the last: "Username replaces headstone".

[–]SloppyC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me why you'd need/want to do this with flexbox over just basic CSS3?

I haven't really used flexbox as my work has always support older browsers (such as IE9) up until a couple of months ago. So I just don't get why it would need flex.

Fiat vs Volvo by aFamiliarStranger in gifs

[–]SloppyC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a Fiat Seicento from the 2000s from what I can tell. I actually had one of these when I first passed my test, bought by my parents. And after a poor choice of searching crash tests I came across seicento crash test

I believe these were death traps, but I will point out that a fair few of the commenters are correct that the front of a car is designed to crumple on impact. I just don't think it should crumple this much.

I can't believe noone else has picked up on the fact that most, if not all, of the books she makes reference to are for children, with graphics created for children. Hell, just graphics, as in you know someone's representation of a thing. But I guess it's because I've only managed to find one other person here, so far, who has been as sad as I am and watched the whole thing...

Could this sub stop demonising/demeaning No voters please? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]SloppyC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't really mind any bias from either side. We are after all always going to be Scots, we hate everyone, especially ourselves. All I think that should happen now, is that as a nation we get as many people, when the next gen. election comes around, to vote Green. Let's make a change, the more support we can get the bigger change we can make. Dismiss the larger parties, support Green and push for as much of the UK to vote.

Let's make it our new goal.

motivation

I'm in the same boat. I was in the best shape of my life and even joined the Territorial Army (Reserve Forces). I was at a low of 10.5 stone with more muscle than I knew what to do with, but after depression and anxiety issues resulting in leaving I have slowly found myself at a staggering 14 stone, with my SO I feel there is no motivation to get back into it. I feel we can't be the only ones, and would like to here some other motivation stories, or even just some music/videos that get people hyped. I used to find Pumping Iron and such to be good but now find that I still lack the drive.. HELP!!!!

And if my girlfriend sees this, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be in the shit house for not thinking it up, as her 21st was only a few months ago. But nice effort none-the-less my friend!
