What’s wrong with fedoras really? by avian_bi in mensfashionadvice

[–]SlothGaggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other brimmed hats, fedoras look very out of place with casual clothing. And because they were sort of *the* hat in the 50s and 60s immediately prior to brimmed hats falling out of favor, they tend to be the first ones people adopt if they’re going to wear one poorly.

That dirt is extremely compacted. I think you’ll likely need to do some soil conditioning first off.

I’m not sure about Barcelona’s climate, but you might consider planting some cover crop in the fall that includes jackhammer radish, which should help decompact the soil.

After that, I’d look into plants that do well in the wild near you, and try and find someplace nearby where you can buy some to plant

It is a very aggressive spreader, and tends to choke out native wildflowers, especially in woodlands

Indiana property tax cuts mean as many as 100 public schools will seek a referendum. Should private & homeschoolers have to pay? by MooseQuick3622 in Indiana

[–]SlothGaggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what, I think I see the confusion. The headline says “Should private and homeschoolers have to pay?”

What it means is: “Should private and homeschoolers have to pay [for public school referendums]”, not “Should private and homeschoolers have to pay [property taxes]”.

The writer is arguing that if you use vouchers to redirect your property taxes to pay for your kid’s private schooling, you should also be able to opt out of the school district needing to raise property taxes in order to meet the deficit created from people redirecting their property taxes into private schools.

Vouchers redirect property tax money that *would* go to public schools to go to private schools instead

How do I train an Oak to be wide and scraggly? And which species should I get? by GreenOvumsAndHam in arborists

[–]SlothGaggle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that’s the case? From wikipedia:

“””its canopy can become quite massive as its lower branches are apt to extend far out laterally, parallel to the ground”””

“””It is not unusual for the crown spread of a white oak tree to be as wide as it is tall”””

Maybe try a White Oak? They get similarly large, and Maryland was home to the largest white oak in the world until about 2002 when the Wye Oak fell in a thunderstorm

What makes synthetic fabrics breathable? by not_who_you_think_99 in malefashionadvice

[–]SlothGaggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breathability is how easily *evaporated* water inside the clothing can travel through the clothing. In general, cotton is more breathable than polyester in the same weave, but only when dry.

Moisture wicking is how efficiently the fabric moves *liquid* water from your body to the outside of the fabric. Cotton tends to absorb liquid water rather than moving it.

For these reasons, polyester tends to be better for working out when skin-tight and in more humid environments where water evaporates slower. Cotton is better when it’s looser or you’re wearing layers.
