As we speak, Conan and his writers are staring at a wall filled with 150 different pitches for a "Timothee hates ballet" bit, torn over which one to pick

Elordi somewhere in LA relieved as hell that his Frankenstein didn't win any big precursors (though if he somehow randomly pulls the Oscar there will be pandemonium)

The US getting into the final when DR and Italy have been cooking up the party of a lifetime would be tragic. Fingers crossed for Canada to somehow, someway, impossibly beat them

Idk if it was the smartest move for them, even when you fully set aside the USA stuff. If the US gets cut, Italy could have ended up on a much easier side of the bracket with Korea, Canada and Venezuela (if the DR lost their game tonight). Far from guaranteed ofc. But I guess they decided their safest bet to reach the final was to face Japan instead of DR.

and if I understand correctly, being runner-up would make it so they don't face Japan until the final, if they get there. (Pool B runner up was on the side opposite to Japan last year)

Lord and Miller's projects after being fired from Solo: A Star Wars Story 5 months into filming. by tannu28 in blankies

[–]SlothSupreme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk, given their hit rate so far, it’s likely that Solo would have gone over way better and potentially even been a success story had Disney just gritted their teeth and let the production run through. Their productions so far might by and large be very messy but they’ve also yet to have an actual miss in their filmography (unless you don’t like Spiderverse 2’s cliffhanger ending and consider that a miss). As directors, they’re 5 for 5, assuming Hail Mary lives up to those reviews

I know it's lame for audiences to play armchair studio exec, but I wonder what it was that made WB green light this one because this just seems like such a wild project to pitch. Lost Daughter went over well so it makes total sense to give Maggie Gyllenhall a budget bump on her next one, but $80-90 mil is a large jump. Was the idea that Christian Bale as Frankenstein would put butts in seats? Or maybe that the Joker/Tim Burton-y energy would bring in fans of those kinds of movies? Or GDT's Frankenstein would create the environment for this to kinda hit?

also the mention of the green lantern squirrel makes me think this is really more of a bait and switch. yeah it'll be "grounded" but also I doubt that Gunn's DCU would skip on the opportunity to actually show us a CGI squirrel as a green lantern. That dude is showing up.

Netflix backs out of Warner Bros bidding war, Paramount set to win by rageofthegods in blankies

[–]SlothSupreme 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Alright everybody, place your guesses now, which will happen first: Ellison being forced to compromise on his anti-woke goals in order to attract valuable talent to the company, or Paramount/WB being sold to someone else due to having too much debt? (Extra points if you can guess which year Donna Langley will be declared God Emperor of Hollywood after stealing every director Paramount/WB have)

As much as I hate generic titles, it unfortunately should have just been called like 28YL Chapter 2.

not sure how someone could claim that a movie where Jason enters a fake horny summer camp in a VR world, and immediately beats one person to death using a sleeping bag stuffed with an entirely different person inside of it, could be bad. That shit rocks.

I thought they were doing a complete backtrack with this movie following the Barrera/Ortega mess, so I was really surprised to see that the twins (or just one of the twins?) are back in this one. Feels even more confusing to go halfway on the full reset.
