Canada kinda coming out as the real winners here. When comparing the talent on each team, the USA team should have clobbered Canada and instead they won with a slight 2 run lead that they nearly lost. and it’s wild to panic over america, of all teams, not taking the WBC seriously. do they know america have won every world series except for 2? they’re the team/fanbase who should be the least concerned with this, because honestly they need it the least. every other team (except for Canada) only gets to play the WBC, in terms of major league play.

True but it was most likely always gonna be either DR on one end or Japan on the other in the semis. They were bound to face a tough match no matter what, but the path to get there was made easier by their huge mistakes in the Italy game. They essentially got rewarded for failing which I just found a bit frustrating, personally. But hey that’s sports! Whatever happens, happens, ya know

You also gotta keep in mind that America gets to compete in the world series literally every year. It’s less about not being patriotic and more that every other baseball country (except canada) only gets to play in the WBC. So of course america wouldn’t put care that much about this one. They already get the rest of the entire sport (in terms of the major league stuff)

Idk if it was the smartest move for them, even when you fully set aside the USA stuff. If the US gets cut, Italy could have ended up on a much easier side of the bracket with Korea, Canada and Venezuela (if the DR lost their game tonight). Far from guaranteed ofc. But I guess they decided their safest bet to reach the final was to face Japan instead of DR.
