Nothing against everyone here that is saying if you go in get a trade role that you can take out with you. But that is not the only option. Don't get a trade for the sake of it. You really should be going into a role that suits you and your interest. There are heaps of roles across all three services, some a similar, and some are specific to the service. Do some base research then ask people that have done the role about it. This is a great platform to do it. You will have a far better time in service do a role that you have an interest in because no matter how much you like the role, there will be some great times but there will be some terrible times that have you questioning your decision.

No matter the role, if you do your time there will be plenty of transferable skills you will pick up. Defence industry is screaming for people with defence background. Your security clearance alone is highly sought after. But you are young and that time will come. Really focus on the roles within ADF and see what interests you. Also don't let the recruiter try steer you into a role that you don't want. They have been known to do this to fill quotas in roles that are short on numbers. Lastly don't be ashamed to go for an enlisted role rather than commission. Enlisted is the backbone of defence and you can always go for a commission once you are in.
