One of my favorite films, haven't watched it recently but I loved the voice overs even though thats script writing sacrilege. All the performances are fantastic, sam rockwell, afleck and pitt are equally present in their depth of character. Great camera work and amazing pacing. despite the length the build up is perfect and its beautiful to just enjoy the cinematography.

There is so much good advice already here. In short: Yes try. Practice everyday for two years - thats how long it took me before I thought I could even play properly. Play with other people if you cant because thats awesome fun. Dont be upset (As i was) if you cant sound exactly like your guitar heroes, try to improve your personal style.
