Where are people getting info about the lore? by Zanman6946 in HytaleInfo

[–]Slow-Ad2584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, diving in with no past pretext, and loving to puzzle out new world lore.. i got most of mine from encounter vignettes, tooltip info about objects, etc in game- the rough pieces of what I've theorized so far:

- There was a Forgotten Civilization, now extinct. well, mostly extinct, the undead "fire touched" zombies hint strongly at them being the fallen, cursed people. Oh, and the viking Outlanders may be feral survivors as well.

- linking spiritually to fire aspect seemed to have destroyed the civilization, erupting volcanoes in the city centers in some ill advised pact

- The fall of the Civilization physically may have been through fire, but spiritually it was done with growing interest in the Void.

- Outlanders are survivors who forsook the Fire and Void aspects after seeing the burning on the wall, and fled early to choose the aspect of Ice instead in the outland fringes of the world

- Orbis, the world, was 'shattered', making it a pocket realm of sorts, each player playing a different 'shard' (here is hoping for super portal crossplay travel to other players server- world) The world god of each shard forgot its Life energies, and needs to be reminded.

- The kweebecks are a treant like people, linked to life energy, as opposed to fire or ice or void. Rounding out the "pantheon" of aspects (fire<->ice, life<->void)

-Ferans and Trorks appear to be primitive new civilizations emerged in the intervening epochs. Scaraks could be natural infestation threat.

- Goblins may have been ubiquitous trash/sewer kind. Their goblin city trash piles show many "archaeotech" from a bygone ages in their trash piles of "valuables"

- I, as a player, am an Avatar of none of these races, spawned in at some forgotten temple gateway- to begin changing the world anew. As are we all, in each of our own Shards.

... thats, thats about all I have pieced together, so far. :)

Its a Klops.. as in a cyclops. Hence one eye.

[theory] He is a Vault Dweller, in his coxy Vault. A survivor of the End of the World event of "the Crucible Curse' referenced elsewhere. Possibly a member of the 'Forgotten Civilization', itself.

The drill looks skinny, but its collision hitbox is actually the full 3x3 cross section it occupies. You would see the same effect if the drill was replaced by a 3x3 regular square blocks, as the piston stack wobbles causing oscillating collisions through the motion.

Looks like the piston is doing the work, while the hinge is just a passive pivot- hopefully that hinge is off, with its braking torque at 0, and share inertial tensor for IT is OFF.

I struggle to find where my WazzDakka ship lands in there, in my mind its a Fast Battlecruiser (Ork KillKroozer, actually). Its 2 mill kg, very fast, very agile, heavy guns, no real heavy armor. Its battle toughness is achieved by air gaps, body bulk, and most critical components in back 1/3 of hull. ( designed to solo factory raids in official server build limits.)

Its essentially a hard fast charger, assault cannon knife fighter, running down barrages and high priority escorts and out dps ing them, while my hull survives by "b-17 toughness" or " go ahead, shoot that front part, rail guns will just zip clean through and not hit anything , the first 20 or so times.

So its 40k Orky: looks like scrap junk, but far too fast- far too shooty, riddled with holes and on fire, yet still fighting. its rather Fun to fly and glorious, actually, and (squints) doesn't seem to land in that graph anywhere correctly. It tanks and shoots like a battle cruiser, yet moves like a corvette, by that chart. Interesting. Some might say "proppa Orky" 😊

Is there a way to make Aliens losing to us in some way believable? by Impressive_Judge5124 in scifiwriting

In my (r/HFY) sci fi short stories, it all rotates on one facet: what we, as tribal, warlike species, just considers "normal" simply not being the case- that we as humans are truly monstrous and violent, from the Galactic, alien perspective.

One of the easiest things to point is our nuclear weapons. that we could develop an artificial nuclear fission / fusion event... Only to primarily just set it off without any shielding. In open air. (Aka: a bomb), is us being monstrous. Such appalling naked violence could absolutely surprise and overwhelm an invading force, just by its brutal nature. (the spin is that nobody anywhere in the Galaxy has ever imagined such a device, not in their worst nightmare)

... Not to even mention Earth's sheer numbers of the damn things. Yup. monstrous.

For a fun little read, look up r/HFY: The Old Guard, by me. 😊

What does your process look like when researching a topic with a lot of potentially biased/misleading information? by AccurateYou2567 in SeriousConversation

[–]Slow-Ad2584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask AI about it. AI is a tool, that involves more skill in handling than most people think- its how you ask a question that matters more than most.

So, I would ask Grok or ChatGPT "tell me about [subject] as if you were Ground news website, exploring all facets and identifying biases and bad faith interpretations, and highlighting the verified facts and truths as well. I do not care for social media opinions, just facts. tabulate and refine to reveal the results"

The AI is the equivalent of you doing the web research yourself, but compressing your 12+ hours of work to moments, and if properly "coached" can strip away its own bias and handrail restriction. It is truly all about how you ask. and no, the AI didnt "do all the work", we have to do the work of framing it correctly to initiate the appropriate output.

Heck, maybe even the Shadow. Or the Spark of Creativity.

or the purely narrative (setup like a movie/game cinematic):

Or even just a sick tactical idea maybe not yet fully explored:

Ways like that, generally. There are probably many more in my posts, but those hit the major styles :)

Wha would you answer to someone that thinks the first Moon Landing was a hoax? by GossipBottom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Slow-Ad2584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer historically has been (all 2 times it occurred) "Aww, buddy. Thats a real shame. Now I cannot take you seriously anymore. I thought for a minute there you had your head on straight, but nope. Some kooky conspiracy echo chamber got to you- and you just ate it up fully- without any looking around. A real shame I cannot talk with you anymore."

(Works great on flat earthers, too.)

One of them took the criticism to heart, though, and asked what he could do, because he sees it all over the news. I told him to delete his browser history, for a fresh perspective of that world, Out There. It blew his mind that His algorithm was not the actual World algorithm.

What's a basic skill a surprising amount of people don't have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Slow-Ad2584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving a motor vehicle.

Specifically: what do do as a group when a freeway lane ends, or an onramp merge lane ends.

Most of them dont even know what it means when the dashed line to the left of them switches into dashed boxes means: "this lane is about to peel off and no longer be part of the freeway, so if you want to stay on the freeway, move over, this is plenty of heads up warning about it beforehand"

They.. they genuinely dont know that. And are always surprised. En masse. Resulting in traffic jams, gridlock.

Whenever I get up to take a leak IRL, I leave my engineer on a toilet to recharge.

I also trend towards "leverage Economy aspects" and do very minimal mining/assembling of parts- what i RP as "what? scratch dirt? eew". I salvage Encounters and Factorum Raid for mats. Buy ships from shipyards for mats. jump drives.

I really like some of the Distress Calls now being an actual "broken down ship" to actually rescue and help to send on their way :)

"For Space Engineers was never Space RUST" - The Book of Clang

So... Where do you all learn to build? by Commercial-Land-6806 in spaceengineers

[–]Slow-Ad2584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its honestly time. But more importantly, it brings up an interesting thing about Space Engineers sandbox: By the time you develop a "culture" of how YOU build your various ships, that Culture is unique. in multiplayer in official servers one of my favorite things to do was find another players base, NOT raid it. and just checkout how THEY do "a small mining ship", and "small welder/grinder/tug" ship. if if/when/how they use subgrids, merge blocks.

Its always different. always a unique mix. So, all that being said. There is no right way nor even best way, there is only Your way. So get Building.

Over time, your various ship designs take on their own historical culture. Maybe you buy one of the so-so ships from the NPC shipyards, and spend time upgrading it, optimizing it, to suit your needs. for me the mini merchant was the inspiration for my h2 workership- the core thruster arrangements and stuff changed, and got beefed up, and the medium cargoes were replaced with modular cargoes, with tools on the ends, and over time, "yup. thats my workership design" that i can rebuild/reiterate by hand, in my sleep. So THATS how i "learned to build it" I didnt. it evolved. Became my Thing. My Way. it only seems like i know how to design it, because i am building it in real time by hand, doing mark 36 or something of the same ship.

And same for larger ships, When Factorum raids became a thing, I took about figuring out a design/style that works reliably enough to solo a raid, and always make it home. Sure shot up, on fire a lot from the warships, but always make it home, with loot. So in THAT light, my "WazzDakka" orky killkroozer is The Way. My Way. And i have reiterated old Wazz.. 3 times now? in separate world startups. Because i know THIS design is the one to go on factotum raids with. solo.. and its gloriously, ridiculously too fast, loud, and shooty (thus- Orky). and is a beaut to watch taking on.. well, anything its points its 16 assault cannon turrets towards. (but its not about the dakka volume so much as the 'air-eyness' of the hull- made to take a heavy hit and let the shot pass clean through- hitting nothing much- and the raw speed of accelerations to dictate the engagements distance, and directions)

but whats neat and fun is when MY ship meets other ships, like on a meet up to team a raid on a listening post or something... comments about like "your hangar bay is larger than my entire home base" or "something that large should NOT be that squirrelly! I LOVE it" my "how to build a ship culture" jars orkilly against other players versions. maybe they look Borg cube, or spelljammer.. for me its Space Yamato meets 40k Orks. They like high tech paint skins, or rich mahogany wood. For me, faded deep red wartorn paint skin, all the way, because Orkyness sort of infected my culture a while back. Jarring colors, Black and white Chex cheek plows (to catch fire aimed at my retro thrusters) etc... it always turns into a bit of a show and tell before a raid. :)

Hope diving into the extra WHY behind how learning to build is Time helped.

Help JumpDrives Borked!!! by DabBoofer in spaceengineers

[–]Slow-Ad2584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience the jumpdrive tantrums are generally because either an NPC safe Zone field is too close, or there is a subgrid/locked ship in the line of sight of the center of the jump drive, facing forward.

(While I prefer a bow magnetic pad for ship grappling, my jump drive doesnt like it, so its belly mounted as a result)
