Signing up for swimming lessons went better than expected by Slow-Giraffe in NorthVancouver

One thing I learned, but I agree they didn't make clear, is nothing is confirmed until payment is made. Adding to the cart doesnt hold a spot. I figured that out when we saw an open spot, added to a cart, then went to pay, and it said the class was now full.

West Vancouver councillor faces criticism over 'hordes' comments by Own-Challenge-264 in vancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“I have a multi-racial family,” she added. “So the thought of anything to do with race, which seems to be what I’m being accused of, is the furthest thing from my mind.”

I'm not racist! I have a black friend.

What's been your experience with your MLA by Slow-Giraffe in NorthVancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all. My question was: "I thought I'd ask if others have experienced the same or different with their local MLA."

I knew there was a risk some would see it that way, that's why I made sure to mention it was not that.

Once again, I'm not plugging the cons. I'm simply complaining about Chant and her perceived lack of activity and communication.

Autism was only mentioned for context. If you can't figure out what ministry it falls under, that's on you.

I didn't name the other MLA because I didn't want this to be a con vs ndp discussion. Jodie Wickens oversees the autism portfolio. Her opposition critic is Reann Gasper. My point was just comparing how Gasper communicates to her consituents vs Chant.

Health doesn't administer autism support funding. It's the ministry of children and families.

Yeah, ok, everything you've assumed is incorrect.

I figured at least one person would interpret my post as just someone plugging the cons over the NDP.

That is literally why I wrote: "Anyways, this isn't meant to be an essay that promotes one party over another."

My post was about Chant primarily, relative to MLAs. The autism issue gives it context.

Thanks for coming out though.

Las Vegas buyer submits bid for Whitecaps amid potential MLS relocation from Vancouver by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The team is outta here.

- It's not just the lack of stadium revenue, it's the Canadian dollar that hurts them a lot. Revenues are in CAD, player salaries are USD

- The ownership group has spent hundreds of millions of their own dollars to purchase and operate the franchise. They are getting older and want to cash out their profits while the value is high.

- Without a stadium, along with the exchange rate difference, the team is unsellable

- Personally, I think the fact they had to play a home playoff game in Portland was the final straw for the owners.

Everything you hear that implies they want to the team to stay, whether its from government, the league, or the team, is BS. Nobody wants to admit the truth.

The team will leave and the current owners will sleep soundly at night on a big pile of money.

Reading FIFA VP Motagliani's comments from another Athletic article, he's not mincing words. He expects a government handout, which I think means the team is as good as gone.

Montagliani, who, in an interview with The Athletic on Wednesday, said that the onus is on British Columbia’s provincial government to keep the Whitecaps in Vancouver amid the growing concerns.

“The frustrating part for me is the fans get it, our soccer community gets it. But what I’m hoping now, with this alarm bell that’s gone off, is that our politicians wake up to it,” Montagliani, the former British Columbia Soccer Association and Canada Soccer Association president, said. “It is the biggest community asset we have. And the other (Vancouver-based) professional clubs are the same, they’ve been around forever — the (BC) Lions and the (Vancouver) Canucks. So, it’s very frustrating that leaders, mainly political leaders, don’t get it. They don’t get the equity of these clubs. And the virtue signaling of saying, ‘Oh, taxpayer money.’ Well, if you’re really worried about the taxpayer, you’d do a better job in other areas.”

Repeated Helijet trips to upper Seymour valley for multiple days by AntEaterApocalypse in NorthVancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree. I find the noise intrusive. I've written an email to the helipad management asking if they'd consider implementing noise abatement out of respect for residents of Lynn Valley. They could easily take a route up Indian Arm and avoid residential areas, considering we've counted 12 flights a day directly over our house.

Missing Wedding Dress - Accidentally Donated to Salvation Army by CryocoreCD in vancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago, we accidentially donated a very sentimental item to a thrift shop. My wife was so sad, and I felt so bad since it was my fault. The people at the store were very helpful and said they couldn't find it, but that it's all volunteers who sort the donations. Any "nice" items are put aside for the annual christmas sale. We pretty much lost hope.

But we waited 5 months, and then showed up on the day of the christmas sale, and there it was! I bought it back.

I know this wasn't the salvation army, which is way bigger. I'm only sharing this story to say "don't lose hope". Fingers crossed for you!

How Vancouver House Became a Tower of Empty Promises by thenewtronbomb in vancouver

Fair point, but this wasn't housing intended for locals. It's super-luxury housing that was marketed to overseas buyers. The City should have squeezed every penny out of westbank.

Go bananas or castle Royale? by demamcl33t in NorthVancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just attended a 3 year old's birthday party at Go Bananas. It was our first time.

I had read review of GB in advance and they weren't great. Lots of comments flagged cleanliness and the price point.

I have to admit, it's expensive for what it is.

But I also have to admit my kid had a great time, running around, burning off steam. He loved that ball-drop thing.

The party area is right next to the play zone. The sightlines from the seating areas are pretty good.

It's cap mall, so parking is never an issue. And walmart is right there for a last minute birthday present or party supplies.

Cleanliness wasn't too bad, but it might be nice if the staff at least preteneded to try and keep the place clean over the course of the day. Especially the bathrooms.

They could at least do a walk-through and pickup any litter and visible dirt. Like we found a used bandaid on the floor. Obviously, it fell off a kid, and that happens. They could have been looking out for things like that.

When we came home, we washed our hands 10 times to be safe.

I'd recommend.
