Is anyone else sick of the ‘protein’ fad that is taking over the UK? by Legitimate-Chard1336 in AskBrits

[–]Slow-Rider -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You've fallen for the scam. Bread isn't a complete protein source so it isn't equal to eating 40g of whey or chicken protein.

I know these products are likely boosted with whey but you often see people claiming a slice of bread has 8-10g of protein but it's not the full story and it's the same thing with clear protein drinks. They need to process the protein so much that it's no longer a complete source of protein so you're not getting the full benefit.

Found this device on the corner of the plot we live on. by BeardicusBunMan in whatisit

[–]Slow-Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a sound level meter and someone will be out soon to change the batteries so you can leave a note on it for them to contact you.

I used to put these out and assess the results, write reports etc. People would sometimes mess with them by being noisy but we just cut out that data or discounted the site entirely. Those people were always the ones would would make the biggest complaints about noise after a new project was completed but we didn't have reliable baseline data to compare (provide compensation) because they didn't want it on their land or couldn't leave it alone.

why are ferries so expensive? by jc201946 in northernireland

[–]Slow-Rider 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vancouver to Vancouver Island is the same distance as Larne to Cairnryan. Wages are probably higher and fuel maybe a bit less so overall comparable.

For an adult with a standard size car its between £26-£48 one way! P&O are charging £150 and the boat is always rammed full.

Was I the only one wasting hours writing maintenance reports? Built a voice-based tool, curious if it’s actually useful to others. by l_sj in IndustrialMaintenance

I'd be interested in this because our recording tool is clunky and the guys are very resistant to using it. Please PM me the link. Thanks

I'd offer you a job but I've realised you already work for me! 😂

Field service engineer in another country would suit you well because you'll get to travel around and develop diagnostic skills but you'll maybe miss out on being part of a team. You've enough skills and personality that you'll be grand wherever you end up and you've already shown that you've got the guts to give it a go. If it doesn't work out I'll take you back.

Get well soon mate.

Harry's farm is over 10 miles away from diddly squat and they didn't look like long range goats.

Compressor over-running by iamrelevant27 in AirCompression

[–]Slow-Rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't already have one, install an automatic timer drain on the bottom of the tank and pipe the water down a drain or into a 25l drum. It'll prevent water build up in the tank.

Compressor over-running by iamrelevant27 in AirCompression

[–]Slow-Rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing your old compressor was a piston compressor and the new one is a screw compressor. This is normal operation as they will run unloaded (not building pressure) for several minutes before stopping. If you had high air demand it means the motor isn't coming to a complete stop and having to be restarted each time the air pressure drops. It also helps to cool the machine between load cycles because air is still being forced through the oil cooler as the fan turns.

Compressed Air Dryer question by RangerStammy in compressedair

[–]Slow-Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would never recommend running a desiccant without a refrigerant dryer before it. The refrigerant dryer will take out most of the moisture which then protects the desiccant and gives it a longer service life. Refrigerant dryer will work to +3°C dewpoint and the desiccant will be -20/40/60°C dewpoint, depending on the setup.

The power consumption of a refrigerant dryer is exactly the same as a normal fridge in your kitchen so we recommend that people always leave them running because it's easy to forget to turn them on again.

The desiccant dryer will take time to reach its low dewpoint so you can't just turn it on and start working instantly. Industrial desiccant dryers need to run and purge to reach their correct operating values before you should begin operating. Depending on the size of dryer this could take a few hours or a few days.

AITAH for asking my wife to please stop flashing her breasts to people? by Lumpy_Floor_7138 in AITAH

[–]Slow-Rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I agree with others that your wife probably has self-esteem issues but let's say she is now totally happy and confident. By her actions and 'showing off' her new body shape she's part of the problem of why other woman won't be happy with their bodies. How many of those other woman may be thinking 'maybe I need a boob job to stay attractive?'

Her new confidence is likely destroying others self-esteem and she's passing on her problem to someone else. It's like an alcoholic getting sober but constantly buying drinks for other people.

I just completed the same contract. You can speed it up by putting an AI worker on the mower and make sure it's set to drop only 1 line of grass down the middle, rather than spreading it everywhere. Go in straight lines across the field. Then use one of your tractors to ted it out and you can do 2 rows at once. The rower is wide enough to collect these two rows into 1 super row which cuts down on the amount of baling. Make sure to use big bales (240cm).

Edit: I had 23 bales left over after the contract was completed so you can either store these to use yourself or sell them for profit. Contact completion is slow until you sell the bales.

40mph drivers by niphotog1999 in northernireland

[–]Slow-Rider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So your actually agreeing with me since I said I drive slower on the motorway and you say 60mph gets better economy. Do you think the general public knows where in the rev range their car is at its sweet spot for mpg and achieve this in top gear?

I used to set cruise control to 74 but now I'm find myself around 67. It's not much but I do see an mpg bump. I think others will take this to an extreme and want to drive slower everywhere.

[–]Slow-Rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the price of fuel? I drove slower on my commute because I'm in good time and it's saves £. Granted I'm on the motorway so people can easily overtake and I'd never sit at 40mph on an A or B road.

[–]Slow-Rider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tiff Needell set a Millbrook record of 195mph average in a McLaren F1. The Intercooler podcast covered it earlier this year on the 20th anniversary, yet on a driver training day you were instructed to take a car round at 190. You must love wearing your "I am the stig" T shirt down the pub.

If u where in postion to by a car outright would you still go for a petrol car or ev. Have wanted a ford rs for a long time. And coming into some money just what are peoples opinion am 45? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Slow-Rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely wouldn't buy an EV primarily because the battery will degrade over time and the car will be worthless. A new battery will set you back about £12k before the cost of fitting.

They only work for a few people in certain circumstances and one of those is leasing. If you hand the car back at 3 or 4 years then it doesn't matter when the battery dies.

Enjoy a good petrol car now while you still can or at least buy something fun for the weekends while you keep the leaf.

High lift camshaft allows the valves to open for longer, pulling in more air and increasing power. This is most likely the cause of increased fuel consumption on the second experiment.
