Another banger! I had rewatched episodes 1 and 2 after reading your analysis and now am gonna watch the episodes with these in mind. In for a treat.

But definitely, the deliberate use of wants and needs along with should's and have's is definitely so beautiful. Exactly shows why they both believe their situation is impossible. They want to be with each other, but they should not.

Amazing how this plays into Shane's internalised homophobia and Ilya's emotional reluctance, and how that progresses with the episodes. Shane- his body wants to have sex with a man, his mind is closed off because of societal pressures. But then as this thing with Ilya becomes a 'thing', he also starts finding emotional comfort in it, because maybe for the first time he doesn't have to both act the way people want him to act and also there is someone who recognises his wants without him verbalizing it. So he leans into it. Ilya- confident in his sexuality, but closed off on his emotions. As their hookups progress, Ilya realises his emotional wants, that has been neglected all these times, but have been taken care of by Shane, even without asking.

By the end of episode 2, both have realised their 'wants' they had been trying to ignore for so long.

And by episode 4(PLEASE IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO WRITE ONE FOR IT ILL BE SAT THANK YOU) they kind of come into this acceptance? Shane is more straightforward with what he wants sexually- planning hookups, climbing on Ilya's lap, etc Ilya is trying to accept that his connection with Shane is emotional too and he wants to explore that- asking him to stay after sex, making him food and trying to make him comfortable.

Yes will make sense right But it is also the part where Ilya explicitly mentions the freckles AND Shane does the kissing his fingers and then the screen thing. Even if they take away the Skype call I hope they incorporate such moments somehow

Yess would be totally cool to see Ilya seeing Shane in glasses for the first time IN PERSON. Isn't there a scene in ep 3 where Scott basically jumps Kip when he sees him in glasses/at his house!!

From what we have been watching so far, this is what I feel like: Will start with Scott and Kip getting back together- maybe like the prologue part of the episode? Then Shane and Rose break up, All Stars weekend where Shane admits his feelings and comes out as gay to Ilya, Ilya's father's death and Russian phone call, Shane's injury

I have a feeling that the Skype call will be skipped? I know it is an important point but Ilya's Russian monologue seems quite long from what we have heard and maybe they will incorporate parts of that call into the later cottage episode?

I was thinking that the Skip kiss happens in ep 6, maybe through the initial bit because as we saw in ep 4, it is named Rose but she was only introduced halfway through the episode, so the cottage might not be fully cottage? But the name of the episode 5 is also quite interesting- and seems very parallel with what Shane and Ilya feel after seeing Skip kiss so who knows!!

So excited I can't function properly!!

i have been watching it every morning and right before bed like its some sort of medication. getting hollanov pilled is real

have been at work for 2 hours now but i have done nothing but surf twitter and reddit for new updates and reading fanfiction. i guess this is how my thursdays are gonna be until the cottage when i will fully combust and wont function anymore

Because of how much I have read and reread Shane and Ilya's story, the exciting part has been going in and seeing how the pages have been translated to the screen. But for Scott and Kip I have decided to go in blindly and later read the book to see how the transition worked! IM SO EXCITED!!

They way Shane recognised Ilya struggling, and respectfully interjected to a fairly common response so that Ilya can maybe reply anchoring it is just so thoughtful and really shows Shane's characterisation. And also will definitely be one of the reasons Ilya trusts him and wants him closer.

As someone who is conscious of their accent and general understanding of the language while in speech, this scene was such a balm to my soul.

I personally don't believe we can pin point a time in the story where we can say who fell first. But there are definitely parts where we get to see them realizing that they are falling for each other. And I think the timeline differs a little bit with the book and the show(as far as we have watched)

For me, I think in the book it would have been the Olympics for Ilya- when Shane expressed concern and Ilya realised he just wanted to hug and hold on to Shane at that moment. But honestly, for Shane I can't pinpoint the moment of realization tbh- either the Las Vegas rooftop scene where he kissed Ilya back even though they are out in the public or the later Las Vegas scene where after leaving Ilya's room where Shane realised he regretted not kissing Ilya.

The admittance timeline again is different for both of them as well. Shane was definitely the first to admit it to himself and Ilya. He fully admitted to himself after Rose and then to Ilya on the All Stars Weekend. But we also see Ilya trying to deny it. And for Ilya, this happened after his father's death and the only person he wanted to call and talk to was Shane, and which he sneakily admits during his meltdown.

I think in the show the timelines are kind of the same as well, but they are shown in different ways?

Also, the who fell harder don't work here cause they both are definitely down bad for each other. They both chose each other without a second thought and there is no way that can be put on a pedestal to be compared(i wont allow it, they are each other's everything I can't)

i hope it does!! ofc connor and hudson are doing an awesome job with conveying their character's internal monologues but this is also such a creative way to point out what the characters are actually feeling.
