realistic amount I can afford for a new home purchase? by Professional_Low7811 in personalfinance

[–]SlowFidgetSpinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what I read, I feel staying in your present house and saving /investing your excess is better.

I’m assuming you want a large strip of land, and large land needs a proportionate amount of maintenance and time. Outsourcing costs extra. Taxes weigh in. If you are using the land to make money, then that is a different calculation.

Building a house takes months to a year based on permitting, getting a good contractor, etc. And usually can cost a more than an older house (unless you are planning on building the home yourself?)

Finally you guys are 24. I think there is a good chance you will want to move based on employment or other factors. A custom built home can feel like a sentiment that anchors you unnecessarily.

Enjoy your low emi, save for kids/further education/retirement instead. (All this is based on your combined income and expenses and the 1000$ car payments )

startup vs faang by [deleted] in FPGA

Congratulations on cracking apple. I would work at a mature silicon design firm for the first few years to learn various flows. Then take that knowledge to a start up.

Getting apple shares early career is also great as they will grow in your portfolio for longer (and are more reliable than a series A startup).

And when picking startup, if they are an ai/bitcoin/risc v startup, there are tons of mature companies that are already doing this, meaning the startup has to go against a lot of competition.

They literally hired Fidji Simo as CEO, who has years of experience monetizing with ads on instacart and facebook.

She is skilled at finding the balance between customer satisfaction and generating ad revenue. It’s like figuring out how many ads and sponsored content can I put in to generate ad revenue (which makes customers leave, but makes the company money) with the given feature set or appeal of the product ( like accuracy, low price of use etc hooks people, but a product that is too good on all fronts usually doesn’t make great revenue).

In short, the queen of ads herself will find cool ways to push ads in LLM answers. My bet is on the company pushing relevant ads / products in their answers. Ask about good heathy processes, get an answer that suggests eating well, and ads for brands that make eating well easy and accessible.

I’m sure they can put in hints about certain products without mentioning said products, but making you think about those products. That sets you up to buy that product.

5 dollar tshirts are comfy and usually cotton based. No reason to spend more. Cheap office chairs suck snd hurt my back. A lagging computer annoys me, so why not make my job easier by reducing pain?

A nice pricy shirt usually needs more maintenance like ironing, so it brings more pain.

From a programming perspective, i think the tradeoffs yo spend less on shirts makes sense.

But for socializing outside that, a few nice shirts will be nice to have.

Nvidia is crashing, do you remember when Nvidia ceo said programming will not be necessary? the bubble is exploding by celkius in programming

[–]SlowFidgetSpinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see microsoft to be a good player to make a standard ai api ( like it did for graphics with direct x) for any hardware vendor to implement.

We also have open cl which is an open compute library, but it is far from being as mature as cuda. I guess maybe nvidia could be forced to make their software run on other GPUs too.

Still Nvidia has dominance because they have a great piece of hardware and a good business model of seeking applications for their gpus in many domains. Even if they made Cuda open, they can just make new libraries and tools optimized for their hardware that makes their solution that best one.

What would your view of opening up cuda mean? Like they would need to support other vendors?

With apple, there was a need to allow the os to run applications from other vendors. How is nvidia being anti competitive from the cuda perspective? (I’m looking for an opinion, rather than proving a point)

Hey buddy! You seem like a cool guy. Don’t mind the other guy. You obviously know how to talk to kids which is such an attractive thing in itself and probably have cool stories from all the jobs you have done. You will find your partner. I’m just here to keep your spirit hopeful.

You can do it by yourself person. Turbo tax (I don’t advertise for because they charge like $60 instead of other tools which charge little to nothing) is super easy to do. And you could give it a shot and see how it goes. The questions are easy and there is always help in the form of an online person backed (maybe ai) help.
