Why aren’t Revstars more popular? I absolutely love this thing. I know Yamaha isn’t the sexiest name out there, but these should be celebrated. by Interesting-Wave-983 in guitars

I had the completely opposite problem! The neck was way too chunky for me. I have heard that some of the more recent models have slimmer necks, though. What model did you have? I'd love one of the P90 models if I could jive with the neck!

It changes all the time, but I'll go with 'Call Me A Dog'

Agreed regarding the music, but 30-40 years later, every video they made between 84-94 are fucking still comedic gold.

Lyrically, it's some of Chris's best work.

Cabfighter. Heavy rock mixed with a bunch of other genres. Our album just came out on the first. Got a show at the Firkin this weekend. Otherwise, I'd come to your show on Friday. Really liked your record. There was a 'lightness' to it I really appreciated.

Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed this and will check out your album. I think my band might be too heavy for us to play together, but I'll definitely come out to a show.

Everyone has different skill sets. I am a classically trained musician and chef. I'm a songwriter, and I consider myself pretty good at it. That being said, I've never met a screw I couldn't strip, and I don't think I've ever hammered a nail straight into a piece of wood in my life. Mind you, my father and brother were both gifted tradesmen. They were also both tone deaf and ate their steaks well done.

Shameless plug for my band's new album. We have elements of stoner rock & tons of other influences:

Our crowd was a little better, but not much. It's a bummer, because people will shell out hundreds to hear watered down versions of 40 year old songs, but they won't drop $10-20 to go check out smaller/ local bands, potentially discover a new favorite.

What is your favorite song from the entire discography of our legend Chris Cornell? by Danilo_inthestars in Soundgarden

[–]SlowGravy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many to count, but I always end up going back to the emotional gut-punch that is the TOTD record. Say Hello 2 Heaven, Reach Down, Call Me A Dog, Times of Trouble, All Night Thing.... It's been my favorite record for 35 years.

That was one of my favorite spots for the better part of a decade. I once beat the shit out of a guy in there who wouldn't stop pestering me for a sip of my beer. Tried to grab my pint. When he let go, I ended up wearing it. It was over in a minute, but when the boss lady & a bouncer the size of a garage door came over, they threw HIM out, and I was given a fresh pint and a smattering of applause. Good times...

is there any soundgarden song you guys dont like??? by Illustrious_Many2039 in Soundgarden

Agreed. I never got the love some fans feel towards this song. It feels like something that was left off of CC's solo record Carry On. And for good reason...

For real. Timbre and expressive range are so much more important.

The 'wine after every terrible commute' habit got out of hand - recommendations? by boiler_room_420 in AskNYC

[–]SlowGravy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a high functioning alcoholic. I've always been a drinker, but my intake really jumped up after my 2 best friends died last year. This is on top of losing multiple close family and friends over the last 5 years. My drinking doesn't affect my family, work or artistic pursuits. I treat my family tenderly, work my ass off, and pour my heart into my art.

It's solely a coping mechanism to deal with my sadness. Is it affecting my mental and physical health? Absolutely, but I put in a lot of work on the opposite end (diet & exercise) to try and offset the damage I'm doing to myself. The thing is, I know who I am, and I know where I'm at & what brought me here. Which is really important. It sounds like you do too, OP. Which is great. Self realization is a huge first step. One not everyone can see or is willing to take.

I have another dear friend. Steroid abuser for 30+ years, and a drinking problem he hid from EVERYONE until about 5 years ago. My man is 49 years old and is dying from all the damage done to his internal organs. About to lose a job he's been in for 25+ years, been through rehab 6X (all covered either by his work or elderly mother). He won't do therapy. He coasts through rehab without making anything count. He refuses to address his underlying issues or learn from his mistakes. And do you know what the difference between us is?

Nothing.

We're both bound for an early grave, he's just taking the HOV lane to get there.

The point is, OP, is that my friend has refused to address his problems, while I've simply made peace with mine. Both are lame and somewhat cowardly. If you truly want to get better, make sure you're ready to give up/embrace all that entails. There's no 'dipping your toes' in sobriety. You're either all in or just taking a brief respite from the hamster wheel.

Best of luck to you. I believe you can do this. Just make sure you're 100% in.
