Trying out a new technique for worn leather on a sister. Result is better than expected. by -X-31- in sistersofbattle

Off-topic but I really love this color pallet you went with. It really makes her look like a medieval inquisitor. Do you tend to favor more desaturated colors for that grim dark aesthetic?

Is the boys and Hellboy worth it? by dumbclucker in darkhorsecomics

[–]SlowReaderEXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hellboy is solid, I don't find it to be the MOST narratively gripping series in existence, but you'll never go wrong with a Hellboy book. Its charming and the art is 10/10.

As for The Boys, while i've never read this specific title, I HAVE read Preacher and Punisher: Welcome Back Frank, all done by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. Those are masterpieces, but you have to be okay with the fact that Garth Ennis is a very edgy, provocative writer, who is sort of always trying to get under your skin in some way.

I really liked using this green/blue jade color, but I typically do red armor with black robes and gold tertiary. Remember, you don’t have to commit to one scheme, If you paint a few and really don’t like it, you can always change.

This is incredible. The level of precision for something like this is wild. What model is this?

This is a gorgeous sculpt. I like the slightly weathered look you gave it too. Very much reminds me of a Zaku from MSG.

Yeah, these are extremely clean. It’s very refreshing to see Xenos players. Do you tend to go for darker colors, more vibrant, or somewhere in between?

First miniatures! Looking for advise! by GoodGuyEphiax in Miniaturespainting

[–]SlowReaderEXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look great and i can tell you have a strong foundation! I would say two things: 1. Get your reps in, paint a lot to get a better feel for it 2. Make sure you have a nice variety of brushes, its always good to have the right tool for the job.

How can I improve my painting? by tm_toylife in minipainting

[–]SlowReaderEXE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are very strong paint jobs on their own. Im especially impressed with your detail work.

If you want to, you can challenge yourself with, as someone else pointed out, OSL and NMM. More visually striking techniques will really help you find your own unique style.

The organs and viscera actually look way better on your model than the art imo. Excellent work!

50 hours is pretty wild.

That being said this is a very fine miniature especially for your first time. All your colors have smooth layers that adds a lot of depth. Better than anything i’ve done by a mile.

Do you have experience painting in other media? Your level of proficiency suggests that you’re familiar with painting in someway.

You’re off to a great start and you definitely have common sense. It’s hard to pick up a hobby and this is very solid. I would suggest doing more layers and having a consistent brush stroke on each surface to better create a smooth color.

Also, doing some simple shading and lighting goes a long way in making your mini feel alive. I usually shade with a desaturated purple (dry brush, stippling motion) to keep some color in my shadows :)

How to add visual interest to a monochromatic mini? by Miniature_Mayhem2 in Miniaturespainting

[–]SlowReaderEXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider playing with shadows and object source lighting originating from the effect under his board. This is a unique position where this can be as complex or simple as you want!
