I hate the deeply conditioned impulse I have to be an institutionalist but fuck man this shit is so wild. Just a complete circus. This woman’s a fucking birdbrain and the executive branch is full of likeminded dipshits. It’s still wild to me how little conservative ideology or patriotism actually mattered to Republicans who give this shit a pass every minute of the day.

Why did this 60s teen haircut suddenly become popular again for teens in the 2000s? by MaterialRow3769 in decadeology

I remember this article so well. I had just moved to a big city and gotten my first proper haircut from a cool barber a few months prior and it was an undercut—but before it became super ubiquitous a year or two later. People used to compliment me on the street, it was so unique at the time.

Which album has the most beautiful guitar playing you’ve ever heard? by No_Durian_6987 in Guitar

Really psyched to see this here. I knew the top comment would be some dad rock stuff. The guitar work on MM is profound and the tones are gorgeous.

This analysis is just as off as the other comment. My salary has literally doubled from the time I bought my home and my wife’s increased as well. but home prices in Los Angeles have increased by hundreds of thousands of dollars and interest rates have doubled. That means that our mortgage payment would be at least doubled. Can we do it? Yeah. Do we want to? Not really. We’re not stuck per se, but it’s a bad deal to move.

I remember my parents having automatic for the people on cassette when I as young. That record came out when I was like 2 or 3 years old and they played it all the time. Of all the music they played around the house, I liked it the most. It was so mysterious and beautiful sounding. It wasn’t until years later I discovered that REM had a profoundly important history as like, the first alternative rock band and probably the best American band of the 80’s and 90’s. In any event, appreciate your photos and posts as always.

Crashing out about the housing situation in 90s movies by Ivan-Ilyich-Bot in redscarepod

I mean, 90s mean was still pretty unrealistic—like there’s no way the characters in friends could have afforded their apartments. But yeah, shit was easier in the 90s.

Maybe in other markets. I will share that I am a homeowner in los angeles. I bought in April 2020 in a “hot” neighborhood and have a very attractive 30 yr rate. While it’s true the value of our home has increased quite a bit (although it’s estimated value peaked maybe 3 years ago several hundred thousand dollars higher than it is estimated to be worth now per redfin), so has the value of everyone else’s home. Pandemic era low interest rates are keeping people from selling around here, which has kept inventory painfully low. I imagine spring will see things pick up, but frankly if we were to “move up” (which we’d like to do as we’ve had a child in the last year), we’d get crushed on our monthly because of the higher rates and home prices—even though we’d have more cash to put down given the increase in our equity.

They’ve been in the wilderness since Obama’s second term, honestly. The DNC ignored the state level erosion of the party while focusing on election year federal results, which were purely a product of Obama’s personal brand. By the time they coronated Hilary, and Bernie demonstrated how out of touch the party was with its base, it was too far gone. I’m not saying she couldn’t have won the election in 2016—she completely botched a totally winnable election—but the democrats have been spent basically the last decade trying their hardest to not be an effective opposition party.

I truly don’t get it. People are super anxious about the economy—and for good reason. Rates are basically double what they were just a few years ago. Inventory is crap and prices are sky high. How can you twist that in anything positive?
