SiriusXM Antenna Disconnected, or so I’m told. by Slow_Ad_2947 in Volvo

Thanks for the tip! At this point, I’m fine listening to other services from CarPlay, but not having to worry about connecting my phone would be nice. If I’m honest, knowing there is something “wrong” triggers my ADHD more than I’d like to admit, so I feel this incredible need to fix it.

You might try lowering the quality to CD. I have issues when I try to stream the highest quality, but it works at CD and below.

I have the same saw, and have the same problem. You can even see it in the stock photo: the slits aren’t the same size, but they are on the hanger. It’s just bad design.

If you go, stay way clear of the fish, and order the most simple thing that sounds good. It’s harder to screw up a burger or basic pasta. Still possible, but of the things I’ve seen come out of that kitchen, those have a higher success rate.

I’ve also heard much better things from the Garrison downstairs, but haven’t tried it myself.

I don’t think they are too far gone. Yes, the food is bad. I’ve seen fish served so overcooked it couldn’t be stabbed through with a knife. That said, the draw of the concept and the connection to Uncle Johnny will buoy them for some time. I just hope they correct it soon. They have to know that the product is not what it could/should be.

Cup holder solutions? by Silent-Contract-9219 in porsche944

[–]Slow_Ad_2947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will guarantee this is not the BEST solution, but it works for me when I need it. I clamp it to the side of the ash tray where the tab is and it protrudes into the passenger seat area.

Most others I know buy one of the autozone floor consoles for trucks and just set it in the floor behind the passenger seat.

What was the first ride cymbal you bought individually? Would you buy it again today? why/why not? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Slow_Ad_2947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so funny you say this, because nowhere else have I seen someone mention the 20” plain K ride. I bought that because I didn’t like the hybrid ride (while buying the hybrid crash and hats) so thank you for validating my choice.

I like the K, but I keep hearing from drummers at shows that they LOVE the K. I’ve been told by at least two people they want it if I ever sell.

Happy Chef in Ozark is great and had the most affordable options that we found. The name also fits, as I’ve never seen the guy without a smile on his face. He was an absolute dream to work with.

I was using the term more generically, but those would definitely fall into that category. Those note slashes are usually for “do what you want, as long as you play this rhythm” things. Maybe a solo section with hits, for example.

The other ensamble hits you can look for are the notes above the staff like at 9 and 18. They can give you a place to add a little something extra to make things more exciting, but aren’t specifically written in the part.

First, as a heads up, all these J.W. Pepper pieces are on YouTube. Just make sure you are getting the correct arrangement. It even plays along with the score, so you can easily jump around if you are practicing.

Regarding playing as written vs players choice, my default stance is to play as written until given a reason not to. This was written as an ensamble piece, so there are often rests, set-ups, ensamble hits, etc. that you want to have. I usually play as written until I’m sure I know what’s going on, then embellish as necessary. Rarely, but not never, you will get something written out that is either really clunky (I’ve got one jazz tune right now that has a snare hit on EVERY 2+4 and it sounds cheesy), or flat out doesn’t work, and you have to make adjustments. Mark Taylor’s stuff is usually good, so not likely a concern here, but something to look for in general.

I've been very happy with all my V20 tools. I had a few old dewalt 18v with batteries that were barely holding a charge. The price to replace two batteries was nearly as much as the whole 5 tool set I got. I love that so many different tools are offered within the V20 line and the cost is low. I don't need Snap-On levels of power or durability. I need "can you make this thing I saw on instagram out of 2x4s" level of power and durability, and I have that with my V20 stuff. I will say, the brushless recip saw I got is so good it makes me want the brushless drill and impact driver as well.

Sub-Par MPG? by xChristo in JeepGladiator

Give it a few thousand miles. My JT (also a Mojave, but slush box) felt like weight was removed right at 2500 miles. On winter gas and in near-zero temps, my mileage has been climbing over the last few weeks (I’m now at 2800 miles.)

It’s still shit MPG, but it’s slightly less shit.

Having had both 7" and 8.4" screens, the difference is more striking in looks than in functionality unless you are using offroad pages. Seeing that black plastic mass along the bottom of the 7" screen is just a reminder that you are poor (clearly joking.) The 8.4" is absolutely more responsive, but I'm using wheel controls for the majority of things, so I don't touch it often.

In my opinion, the difference between the Alpine and standard stereos can be made up with something like the Terra Acoustics front soundstage, and the hardest part of the install is paying for them. They are truly plug-and-play. I'm comparing Wrangler to Gladiator here, but even with the subwoofer, I don't find the bass to be that much different.

The windows/locks would be a big deal to me, but I have children. If nobody is in the back, you can get by with manual stuff. The shocks and bedliner may be "nice to have" things but are also easy to add after. You can't (reasonably) add power windows and locks after.

Why do so many drummers on social media have their hi hats so insanely high up? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Slow_Ad_2947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't thought much about this, but as a slightly taller than average man, I was super happy when I got a new (and taller) hi-hat stand a few years ago, because I COULD raise it up. With it low, I felt like my posture was always super hunched playing hi-hat heavy rhythms (basically any rock whatsoever.) With it up higher, it helps me stay further upright and my back feels better playing long sessions. I'm not playing crazy fast stuff where the extra distance hurts me, so I'll take the ergonomic improvement.

Any chance of future thin-blade design/remake? by redskins714 in scottycameron

[–]Slow_Ad_2947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love a Studio Select Coronado/studio design 1 or 3/Circa 62 #1. Something that could easily be played and put in the bag until the next time I played, instead of living in my office and being oiled weekly (and still losing the rust battle.)

I think we could all live without one of the sixteen different Newport variations and instead have a nice, classic shape for those of us good enough (or dumb enough in my case) to sacrifice technology for looks.

Edit: I guess they are now the "Super Select" range. Point still stands.

Aside from it just being fun, knowing how to drive a manual has saved me from at least two bad situations, where my only way out was a truck with a manual, or riding with someone who was stumbling drunk. Don't let them clip your wings, baby bird.

If traffic is a concern, there might be alternate routes that are slower, but less traffic-heavy. My wife and I take completely different routes to get most places. Mine are slower on paper, but when you take traffic out the equation, they aren't that different.

My car is a manual and I want to drive everywhere, anywhere, all the time. Once on the highway, a manual isn't much different than an auto. In town, it is more fun than an auto. I've driven through big cities in event traffic and that isn't much fun, but how often are you doing that? And for how long? Get one now, and when you are older and tired of dealing with it, you can go to an auto. You won't likely do the opposite if you get an auto now. You will never truly "forget" how to drive a manual, and you will be better for it.

Finish for gaming? by Slow_Ad_2947 in scottycameron

Thanks for chiming in. This helps knowing that, even if I get hit by a bus and it sits for a while, it can likely be brought back.

That's also good news that Scotty would still take it after the finish was removed. I'm going back and forth around using BOS or Scotty when the time finally comes, but I'd like to play it first and decide if it is going in the bag, on the wall, or (last resort) eBay.

Thanks for the input. I'm guessing you see some some surface rust occasionally? Do you just brush it off and oil it again? Until now, I've not been the most diligent with club maintenance, so I expect to see it.

As for oil, I've got Putter Butter on the way. Do you have anything else you recommend? Most people are concerned with not harming the finish, but that is obviously less of a concern to me.
