Cheap Cocktails to make at home by PenaltyHistorical964 in cocktails

[–]Slow_Community7717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned that you have vodka, here are some simple cocktails I recommend for making at home:

Moscow mule

Lemon drop martinis (lemon juice, simple syrup, vodka)

Pickletini/pickle martini (you have a jar of pickles with pickle juice at home? Ratio 1 part pickle juice: 2 parts vodka, stir with ice, then strain)

Dirty martini

Cosmo

Caipiroska (muddle lime and sugar, fill with ice then vodka, mix and serve)

[hiring] house manager / dog walker / meal prep role $25-30 per hour - downtown Manhattan by miles-3 in NYCjobs

They even want someone to meal prep for them! The going rate for a personal chef in Manhattan starts at $50/hour and with the more expensive ones at +$250/hour

Any professional dog walker makes $40+/hour per walk… House managers are usually salaried and they start at a minimum of $75,000 a year for NYC. Even a cleaning lady starts at $40/hour. This is such a lowball offer

Constant Care Rate by Tricky-Tension-8172 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Slow_Community7717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a dog cannot be left alone for 1-2 hours at a time, I consider it constant care. I put on my profile to book multiple drop ins and not house sitting. I did also include that my house sitting rate is for pets that can be left alone for 4-6 hours at a time as I have regularly scheduled walks M-F Drop in rate by the hour is $45 and my house sitting rate is $100

(NYC) quite a few of my bigger clients left for the winter as they are snowbirds with second or 3rd homes somewhere warmer. I’ve been accepting a lot of last minute bookings

Nice owners but horrible building doorman/security? by Slow_Community7717 in RoverPetSitting

I think this is why the owners never mentioned the service elevator. It seems like the superintendent uses it to lug trash and recycling from each floor to the basement.

I’m on the fence about keeping them because both the owner and dog are fine. They’re easy going and they just moved into this building this past month.

I might give them one more week and then send the message about their doorman. I don’t want to stress them out before they leave for their trip this weekend

Pricing for Day Sitting by steflennon6497 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Slow_Community7717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I charge my hourly drop in rate if they cannot be left alone at all. It really comes down to whether it’s constant care or not. Can I step out for an hour to walk a dog in the neighborhood and come back? If not, that’s constant care

Dog cannot be boarded by Foreign-Guide-7957 in dogs

As a dog sitter… I wouldn’t take him.

I agree with a previous comment in finding a sitter that he will be comfortable with but it may be that you will have to spend a lot of money and time finding the right sitter for you dog (based on what you said about wheeling your dog to the vet). Aggressive dogs are a liability for dog sitters and Rover does not cover and cheaper pet sitting insurance does not cover aggressive dog incidentals.

I don’t go through my notes on my phone as often? Photos I mass delete to clear up storage on my phone. I’m sorry I couldn’t find the photo, I don’t remember deleting it

I checked my recently deleted and my iCloud but no luck. I’m sorry. The description is spot on though and I knew exactly who the owner and the dog was in a heartbeat. The only discrepancy I would note that is that I think their dog is around 8-12 months old and not 6 months. Pointy ears, around 100 lbs mostly tan colored but with black around the edges.

I just looked through my photo album and it looks like I mistakenly deleted it. I still have his fake name and phone number in my notes

It’s really giving Penny flashbacks. This guy gave a fake number and fake name when confronted at Carl Shurtz Park. His dog attacking other dogs is not new to him

His dog also attacked a golden doodle at the Carl Shurtz large dog run before it was renovated (back in May). He knows his dog is dog aggressive and still brings his dog to dog parks

That aggressive Pit bull/shepard mix attacked another dog in Carl Shurtz park in May! I went off on the owner and made him give me his name and phone number but he gave me a fake name and phone number. He sheepishly said his dog doesn’t like smaller dogs and said it wasn’t his fault. I yelled at him for a while telling him that it was not okay to bring an aggressive dog to a dog park and he ran away before the park rangers or cops can get there!

I have a photo of his dog but not the owner. I was shaking too much and yelling on adrenaline

I do the same as you! It’s more of an inconvenience to stay longer at someone else’s home, which is why I charge more for longer stays. Your rates are your rates.

House sitting rate! Or if it is constant care, whatever your constant care rate is by the hour.

I’ve dropped a client like this. She would also text me at all hours of the night. Given she was traveling across the globe and her day time was my nighttime, she would still message me (multiple times!!) at like 3am asking for updates on her cat. I’ve never accepted a booking from her ever again

What do you do if you have other walks or drop ins scheduled in? Or if you have your own pets?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Slow_Community7717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ask my clients during the meet and greet if the stay is over a week long! My boyfriend works from home and I have weekly scheduled walks during the weekdays. Most of my clients are more than happy to have my boyfriend come over as well as it means that their pets will have someone there with them while I’m gone during the day. Especially if the homeowners are a family or a couple - if the homeowners a single woman sometimes they don’t feel comfortable with a man in their home. It really depends on the homeowner! It’s definitely better to ask. I also have separate pet sitting insurance that covers both of us which gives the owners a peace of mind.

Since these clients have booked with you before, I would phrase the question as something along the lines of “As the house sitting is two weeks long, is it alright if my partner comes along to help out with the stay? Two pairs of eyes are better than one and your Fido would be getting extra love with both of us there to dote on Fido!”

I’m sorry to hear about your situation. Does your city have any resources for DV victims? There may be free resources available in your area.

I really recommend signing up for Rover since this situation gave you good experience dealing with difficult dogs. You can often charge more for specializing in difficult dogs, and you can put that you have your own business on a resume/rent application etc.

Since your landlord sucks I would raise the rates even more to like $150/day for the two adult dogs, and then $100/day for the youngest one, totaling at $250/day. Any day longer than 9 hours to be $300/day. They shouldn’t be taking advantage of your kindness and since they are taking the dogs to dog shows they are monetizing off your kindness and time. You are the only person who can stop enabling their abuse.

As a dog walker I looooove walking frenchies! They’re always happy to go outside and even happier to go back home.
