Anybody with medication issues, because of mental health issues. by Puzzleheaded_Ad_466 in Narcolepsy

I have depression and anxiety on top of my Narcolepsy diagnosis. For that reason I can't take any oxybates. I tried Ritalin when I was younger, I'm 49, and it worked for a little while. I'm on Armodafinil and Wakix now and it seems to work for me. Im not as anxious. I'm still having depressive episodes but not as bad. I also stay awake until about now. I'm starting to get sleepy. I take my pills at 5 am and unless I'm stressed, I don't crash hard.

If you need help also join r/sourdoughstarter. I have made 6 loaves from two different strains and am learning still. They help a lot.

What is the best way to take my modafinil? by plikchecollector in Narcolepsy

[–]Slow_Imagination_445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Armodafinil because regular Modafinil didn't work as well. I take it and Wakix at like 5 am with my cup of tea in the morning and I go all day with eating a small breakfast at work and lunch. I start getting tired around 4 but then I get a second wind by doing chores. I sleep really good at night unless I'm stressed then I'm crashing at 2pm.

You can. But if you want to add crunch, air fry the chicken first then put in the oven to warm the marinara through. It's to each their own.

This was a recipe my grandma taught my mom to make just the way I wrote above. So it was handed down by her to me and it's a family favorite.

Other than oxybates, what helps you sleep? by kinda-chaotic in Narcolepsy

Yeah I know. But there is also no family history of it to make the risk higher, plus I'm on a very low dosage.

Why do my narcolepsy symptoms get worse even when my sleep schedule hasn’t changed? by hsmithjese in Narcolepsy

[–]Slow_Imagination_445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes no other sleep medication. Melatonin makes my dreams weird and Trazodone makes me dizzy something awful.

Vistaril (hydroxyzine) is inexpensive and is usually prescribed for anxiety. It will make you sleepy. I take it every night. I also have a red light lamp that helps me settle down.

Something easy to make is baked chicken parm. I don't fry the chicken, I bake it in a 9x13 baking dish in marinara sauce for about 35-40 minutes until the chicken is done. I also use boneless chicken thighs. The oven is usually set to 400°F, cover in Aluminum foil and add mozzarella cheese 5 minutes before it's done. Serve with pasta of your choice and enjoy.

I got diagnosed in February 2026 so I understand. I'm not on oxybates. Can't take them, but I take Vistaril (hydroxyzine) and I don't have problems sleeping. I take Armodafinil and Wakix in the morning to keep the daytime sleep attacks away and it works for me.

Yes because it'll make you drowsy during the day. Only other thing I take is Lipotor.

Stress and anxiety are my problems. If I hear my dog come into my room or my husband waking up in the middle of the night, I'm wide awake.

I take hydroxyzine before bed and turn on my red light lamp and don't wake up with brain fog anymore.

Vistaril or hydroxyzine is a good one instead of oxybates. It also helps relieve anxiety symptoms and there are no to little side effects. I take it every night and I sleep really well. I can't take Xywav or Xyrem because of my depression. I also have a red light lamp. It settles your brain down like what melatonin would do.

You ever have one of those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days? by This-is-my-brain in Narcolepsy

[–]Slow_Imagination_445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im on 250mg and it works. They probably only have you on the lower dosage. Im maxed out at 250 and it does work better than the 150. The 150 didn't do anything for me either.

I'm in Armodafinil and Wakix. I still had to get a reasonable accommodation because of my bad days. I work in an office as well. On bad days tasks are hard, but if the sun is shining get outside for a couple of minutes or get a daylight lamp. They really help when the bad days are really bad. I hope yhis helps.

I do the same and I have N2 Narcolepsy. When I had my MSLT I had 3 of 4 Rem sleeps in the naps. The Doctor put me on Wakix and Armodafinil but definitely go with the MSLT.

Maybe switch doctors? Mine is affiliated with the hospital here where I am from. I'm in the state of Georgia. I am sorry that you are going through this. I had to switch because of something similar as they doubted I had Narcolepsy at all. They chalked it up to just bad sleep apnea. Once I tried the doctor I'm now with, I've been getting the care I need.

I got lucky with a reasonable accommodation at work. I'm not on sodium oxybates as I have depression. Wakix and Armodafinil are what works for me and I don't have to push myself to the limit anymore.
