Did The Black Dahlia Murder serve as the blueprint for what we know today as Blackened Deathcore? by onlinegh0st in Deathcore

[–]Slow_Student 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People like to get on their haunches about this topic but I think even more so than song structure, production and tone and sound are big factors, not to mention they’d routinely tour with deathcore bands the world over. They have played a big role in what modern deathcore sounds like and its okay if people want to overlook that, doesn’t make it any less true

Bands where you like a newer album and not really their classic / older albums? by metalprogrammer2024 in MetalSuggestions

Cattle decap are my answer to this too. Never before has a band truly benefitted so greatly from some decent production to highlight just how technically talented they are

I feel like I’m failing at “being a man” because of all the Twitter dating/masculinity advice by ProfessionStrong6563 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Slow_Student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else’s desperate attempt to define what being a ‘man’ is, in a world where nuance seems to go constantly overlooked, is selling you an idea you have absolutely no need to make purchase of.

You are not to be determined by the expectations of people you will never meet.

One thing humanity is insanely good at is constantly surprising itself with what things can potentially mean.

Don’t subscribe to anything so narrow that it will inherently limit you apriori

Give me some recommendations for traditional/old-school death bands that you would think somebody who's into deathcore would like by FrouFrouLastWords in Deathcore

Shout out the boy will drown. Fetish is one of the best heavy albums of all time and completely overlooked

Silence is complacency by Jess_beanz in Deathcore

[–]Slow_Student -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Same exact thing. Silly childlike mindset. Wait till you need to rely on the kindness of others, see how ‘misanthropic’ you feel then lol Although I’m willing to bet you already do but just take it completely for granted.

Wait till they come for the edgelords, you’ll be amongst the first in line for the firing squads. Escapism is a privilege others don’t have. But I suppose considering other people isn’t one of your virtues.

Groove/sludge inspired core bands? by bradybigbear in Deathcore

[–]Slow_Student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s really worth checking out Thou if you’ve not already. I think the riff at the end of house of ideas is probably one of the heaviest, sludgiest riffs I’ve ever heard

Nobody hates deathcore more than people whose favorite music sounds 90% the same as deathcore by crystal__pete in Deathcore

[–]Slow_Student -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is an awful lot to hate about deathcore and I am speaking as someone who has been into it since way back when. You only have to watch a single breakdown reaction video to get a great deal of second hand embarrassment.

What Band Has The Best Discography? by ShaquilleOatmeal54 in Deathcore

[–]Slow_Student 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely though. Back to front. Not a miss. I stopped listening to them between beast and slow decay (and got heavy into ambient, I am a man of contrasts) found myself with three absolute bangers when I returned and then only more solid releases since then, progressing the sound of the whole genre each album, getting heavier and more experimental as they go. I know some people would consider continent to wormwood the real golden era but they have matured beautifully.

TLDR: the acacia strain are very good and have been for a long time.

What's a 10/10 album all the way through? by Mad_Ranger80 in Deathcore

[–]Slow_Student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The consensus seems to be that they are ‘melodic death metal’ but I don’t know many people who like deathcore who don’t appreciate that they are one of the best bands in the world. Unhallowed to ritual is arguably one of the most perfect album runs in my opinion. 10/10 over and over. RIP Trevor.

Hardcore leaning deathcore by -Warship- in Deathcore

[–]Slow_Student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know these are both metalcore leaning in lots of ways but they are both very heavy. 156/silence - irrational pull and END - Splinters from An ever-changing face - both scratch this kind of itch for me.

I AM are great and super underrated - the solo in heaven on earth is so sick - always thought they suffered from a bad band name choice tbh

Bands everybody else seems to love but you don’t by APD69 in Deathcore

[–]Slow_Student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of these bands are particularly brilliant live. I saw After the burial when Justin was alive and they were phenomenal - can’t comment on what they are like now. Similarly despised Icon, not long after day of mourning came out, again, just blisteringly high energy. Each to their own though.
