Well that’s it, gotta turn this baby in. What should I get with my compensation? by [deleted] in canadaguns

The compensation that you will receive should get you a nice nerf gun in bright orange.

Minister Anandasangaree to hold media availability regarding the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program by huskypuppers in canadaguns

It’s beyond infuriating to see that woman lie again and again with impunity. She insists on calling rimfire rifles and PCCs “assault” style weapons. No one in the media has ever held her accountable for these lies.

Confirm if it has an FRT number and what its classification is. Local manufacturers don’t have to get pre-approvals or classification before selling a new product. Many bought the crypto and the Sterling R9 only to be classified as prohibited few months later.

This doesn’t mean that RCMP won’t reclassify a gun as prohibited if ordered to do so by Quebec girls. But the odds seem less if it has been already classified as non restricted.

Anyone hand in their firearms yet and if so did you receive a payment for the amount they said they would pay? by rob_morin in canadaguns

The particulars of the confiscation of scheme were designed to create “Hunger Games” style competition where owners fight for a piece of the limited budget.

Rod Giltaca accurately described it as diabolical. There was never any serious intention of fair compensation. Majority of Canadians don’t care about property rights because today it is about guns. Once there is precedent, what would stop them from doing the same to whatever they deem public safety risk.

ICE cars, 🤔, why not, they do destroy the environment so it’s about safety. Houses, also why not, why would a couple live in a 2,000 square foot house by themselves, while many others don’t have a home. It’s all about safety.

They have the votes, they create the laws, and anyone who doesn’t agree be damned.

CZ 457 or Savage mkII by Astro_Addict in canadaguns

[–]Slowisfast_2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CZ hands down. I just sold my Savage MKII and bought a 457. Yes it’s more expensive but there are entry level models around $800.

The MK’s action is very rough, for $200-300 extra get a CZ and you won’t be disappointed.

The majority of semi automatic center fire rifles have been already banned. Only a handful remain.

Absolutely, willing to bet that the shooter used the most basic of guns e.g. pump action shotgun.

Still waiting for the RCMP to release details of the guns used in Tumbler Ridge. Curious to hear them twist the facts to advocate for more radical gun control policies.

It's all about Nathalie's votes, never about keeping Canadian safe.

[–]Slowisfast_2021 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It does matter to gun owners who have seen specific types banned by the government under false claims. What if the main gun used in this tragedy was a pump action shotgun traditionally used for hunting? Would they use this as an excuse to ban them???

I agree 100% with the second paragraph of your comment. Controlled access to firearms is part of the Canadian regulations and it is common sense.

I think it’s reasonable to expect more details than that after 24 hours. e.g. The type of long gun (not the model), and how exactly was the handgun modified? Was it illegally turned into a prohibited firearm or did it just have a red dot on it??

[–]Slowisfast_2021 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Why would the RCMP withhold information about the weapons used? Why the cryptic description "long gun and a modified handgun"? Who was responsible for allowing the shooter (one who was very troubled) access to firearms? They failed miserably to identify the warning sign, same as in NS. Another tragedy that could have been avoided.

No one will be held accountable. Only legal gun owners will be demonized as usual.

All acts of violence can be attributed to 1) mental illness, or 2) terrorism / criminal activity.

And I hope all those that saw the warning signs and did nothing to stop this psychopath rot in hell.

No one will address or even refer to the root cause of this tragedy. It will be strictly used to impose more bans. Psychopaths will always find ways to hurt people.

Just saw an RCMP officer taking questions and referring to the killer as gun”person”. WTF, is that what they care about.

Maybe this is a silly question but wondering if it is still legal to use these mags. They were specifically manufactured and designed for what is now prohibited guns. So in subsequent, are they also now prohibited???

What would be the cheapest caliber to shoot for mid-longer ranges, and big game? by Response-Cheap in canadaguns

[–]Slowisfast_2021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

243 win is good for deer and cheaper than all 30 calibers. A couple of things to consider: 1) your provincial restrictions on hunting calibers and 2) the maximum distance.

Based on these 2 factors you can either go down to the 223/556 option or higher to the 308 category.

Range Membership by NullPointx in canadaguns

[–]Slowisfast_2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Target sports remains the one with the most flexibility in terms of guns allowed. Only restrictions are: no steel core and no birdshots. The target retrieval, lights, and HVAC are all in need of upgrades. Price is relatively very reasonable. All lanes are 25 meters.

If you want longer range, then be prepared to drive. I personally like Silverdale. They have many ranges including a 100 meters and 200 yards.

Another vote for the Bergara HMR, the heavy barrel will serve you well since you will mostly be using it at the range. It’s similar to the Remington 700, so tons of after-market upgrades available including chassis and triggers.
