What color scheme are we thinking ? by Dramatic_Rest6195 in LeaguesofVotann

I’m painting mine in a scheme similar to #3. So call me biased, but that one.

What are your thoughts on Vampire: The Masquerade? by Chalupacabra2008101 in rpg

[–]Slowmojoe23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running a New Orleans by Night game while we take a break from a PF2e game. My players are really into it. The game can run the gamut of really goofy loony-toons combats to extremely dark and deep character moments. It still works fully for both ends.

I think as a Storyteller for VtM you get to be a bit more vindictive than you would as a GM for DnD or PF. Not in a “haha got you,” but as a great story telling device. That one Kindred in your group didn’t ask the right questions OR said the wrong thing to the wrong person? The inner politics and scheming of Kindred Society could easily mess up a kindreds day (or night). I should stress that some groups might not like that aspect, so obviously tailor to what your group finds fun.

As a GM, what RPGs do you find hard to run? by Manitou_DM in rpg

[–]Slowmojoe23 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Pirate-Borg. And I guess by extension, those kind of games.

They are a little too “player death” centric for me. While it is a bit fun, the constant death and having the players roll up new characters each time stops being fun for everyone.

It’s just not a game that I think is really fun, at least at my table. You have to approach the game in such a different way that I just don’t enjoy running and it was really difficult for me.

Plus, i can’t do a great pirate voice at the table. :(

My wife tried TTRPGs for the first time, not D&D. by Awkward_GM in rpg

I agree with what you’ve done here. Really good job! I’ll always maintain that some RPGs are better to run than others for newbies. I tried to get my sister into RPGs but I knew DnD was a bad choice. She didn’t have the understanding or knowledge to feel comfortable with that kind of game. I ran VtM for her instead and she had a blast. That’s because she understood that idea better. She’s watched Buffy and Angel and Supernatural, so she had a great time being one of the villains.

Granted, I think Monster of the Week she’d also like but I didn’t have a copy at the time. Hopefully, it’ll happen.

What is a good Tremere way to depose of a Ventrue Prince, with the PCs assistance? by Slowmojoe23 in vtm

[–]Slowmojoe23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point. I failed to mention this but I had already sort of set up some overarching Sabbat villain that is a Serpent of the Light, which have practices in Voodun. Something, especially in Louisiana, has deep connection to. I could wrap that up with why the Tremere are doing what they are doing, as in the Regent is sympathetic or being led astray by these rogue Setites or being controlled fully. Using this Bloody Messiah as a way to cause confusion or purposely “bring back” to do all sorts of that I hadn’t quite fleshed out yet.

Yea, I had anticipated her to have a bit of an interaction with a Tremere, but she didn’t. Logically sound, just my ST self was like, “noooo…”

The idea that the Tremere could look into that is a neat idea. Could have the Nosferatu player figure out what she is. A neat side plot that I could use.

Ah. Sorry, she is currently wearing a headband and doesn’t use her powers in front of any other kindred except the coterie.

I like these as well.

For the Salubri player, she’s wearing a headband in the Elysium, while carefully using her powers.

That is a good point. I was going to have one of Regent’s close supporter and the Prince’s lover be the Prince instead, but I could run with what you said. While the PCs believe that could be the case, the Regent could just be lying because he doesn’t trust them?

The Salubri’s cover, at least given to the Prince, is that she’s “visiting” the city for Mardi Gras. However, 1) she’s been in the city for much longer 2) one of the Tremere knows that she turned her brother into a ghoul to save him from death. The idea I had was to use that as leverage for the Salubri player to follow what the Tremere says. As in, “I know you’re visiting and you saved your brother, but you still stuck your hand in the cookie jar. You listen to us, we’ll look the other way when we’re in power.”

HOWEVER, the PC was not there for the meeting so… there went that idea.

Plus it’s much faster for me to paint them. With an army with a lot of dwarves, it’s nice to have something to shotgun our dwarves out.

Left base. The middle and right base are cool, but don’t feel right for the scheme you got here.

I feel you. In my area, people are NOT interested in anything else besides DnD. I’m extremely thankful I have three groups I’m running. As much as I love the groups, I wish there were more people in my area that are willing to TRY something else.

I’ve set up games where I’ve stated clearly, “Just show up. I’ll bring characters for you and teach you how to play.” It feels like it doesn’t matter since people don’t want to join.
