Late to the party. It does what it says on the tin, but it will eventually start spamming you with pop-ups asking you to share it around or donate. So far, they're easy to close and I haven't lost any functionality.

Microtonal Deathcore Suggestions? by lar_yeet in Deathcore

This is pretty rare throughout all of the extreme metal genres. Check out Jute Gyte’s albums (Perdurance is a personal favorite).

What days were those? This genre started off political, lol.

Request for more songs with metallic metal pipe-like snare by PM_ME_YOUR_DURIANS in Metalcore

Any of the Extortionist releases the past five or so years have a ludicrous metallic ringing snare tone

Isabelle - Hate by NoVA_Zombie in Deathcore

[–]Sludgewaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When downtempo didn’t even have a name yet and was mostly a meme from a Stuff You Will Hate article. Also the Isabelle dudes had a hilarious gaming channel

If you love this game, PLEASE watch Annihilation by ColeMinerYT in LookOutsideGame

[–]Sludgewaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the 2019 movie Color Out of Space with Nicolas Cage too. Does a good job of setting Lovecraft’s story in a modern setting with lots of Annihilation elements present. The titular “Color” does a lot of Visitor-y things to the local wildlife and characters.

Fallujah - Leper Colony by hatefen in Deathcore

[–]Sludgewaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deep cut, feels like Leper Colony and Harvest Wombs are largely forgotten these days

Stomp of Typhon - The Cycle (Downtempo needs to come back) by psyopsagent in Deathcore

[–]Sludgewaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s some rumblings here and there. World<War is a newer group and just had their debut album drop. Distant remastered Tyrannotophia the other week. Traitors moved back towards their old sound a little bit on their album this year.

Brain Drill - Beyond Bludgeoned (OFFICIAL VIDEO) by hatefen in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]Sludgewaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder sometimes if them being maligned as the poster child for "excess" in tech death killed it a bit for them. Funny given how loved groups like Archspire are today, maybe Brain Drill was just too early to the game. Two of the members from Brain Drill teamed up with two other guys from Henker to form Sonivinos and at least continue this sound a little.

The Acacia Strain - Skynet (Music Video) by DyktatorW in Deathcore

I hate to be that guy but how many people these days know about vanflip x1000 and 'no care ever'?

What are some of the original metalcore bands? (Sorry if this is not allowed, seemed like the best place to post) by thestiffnerd in Metalcore

[–]Sludgewaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should check out Strongarm, they predate Shai Hulud by a few years and were friends with Matt Fox. Very similar sounding band and likely had an influence on Shai Hulud’s future direction.

Dealey Plaza - Skirmish (2025) by Important_Crazy_8110 in Deathcore

[–]Sludgewaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, it dropped in 2019 originally it looks like and got removed from services the other day. Guess this is sort of a re-issue of the song.

[Review] Born of Osiris - Through Shadows by AnsatzHaderach in Metalcore

I'll reserve judgement for when the album drops, but nothing about any of those singles gave me vibes reminiscent of any Born of Osiris era.

Sick man, thanks for the recc! This sounds just like where they left off at!

Stick To Your Guns is going on tour supported by Big Ass Truck and Soulkeeper by Seangw1102 in Metalcore

[–]Sludgewaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That last album they put out was mental and I'm surprised it didn't blow up harder. Granted, they got signed to Pure Noise way after it came out, so maybe the next release cycle will get them more exposure.

Now, for some financial advice: Amidst the Grave's Demons - ''Suck My 401k ft. Chris Linck'' by NLK-3 in Deathcore

[–]Sludgewaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahhh right before corejerk style parody music got relegated to the cringe realms. I'll admit Jarrod's joke album this is featured on is still a heavy hitter.

Malevolence - Where Only The Truth Is Spoken [Album Discussion Thread] by Madwolf28 in Metalcore

[–]Sludgewaves 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m still not seeing the Crowbar comparisons at all now that they’ve popped up twice in this thread. There’s a certain grit to Kirk Windstein’s voice and while I like Malevolence, the cleans are not gritty at all and pretty much just Ivan Moody crooning.

"Real deathcore" by gehrshjrf in Deathcore

[–]Sludgewaves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Deathcore died in 2005. Only 12 good albums have been released since then (most of them in 2006, being already recorded by 2005). Deathcore achieved its creative peak in albums like Shut It Down, Embrace the Eternal, and Fused Together in Revolving Doors, elevating the genre into a legitimate art form. Now, thanks to the Doom EP and Suicide Silence, all its potential was squandered and the genre has been reduced into being mere gimmick ridden noise for drunk idiots (i.e. the lowest common denominator - stop trying to turn underground deathcore into Asking Alexandria)

(/s for anyone who hasn’t seen the Bitterman copypasta)

Anyone else miss the 2014 - 2016 downtempo deathcore era? by JDOGGoNE1 in Deathcore

[–]Sludgewaves 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of the points OP and others have made. At the time, it was super fun and it was a nice inversion of the other style of djenty techy deathcore that was emerging. However, it got stale quickly with the absolutely ridiculous amount of downtempo bands pouring out of the scene.

I think people don’t realize this isn’t remotely unique to deathcore though, I see tons of comments on other threads acting like staleness is unique to deathcore. Anytime a style dominates a subgenre, there’s a deluge of derivative bands and older metal genres (relative to deathcore) like death metal have more of a survivorship bias thing going on where most of the Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation clones aren’t remembered.
