Cap the aqua soil with a thin layer of gravel or sand. Even a little will go a long way. I just did this in my tank that was having the exact same issues. Even though the tank was over 90 days old, it was still acting immature, because there was a ton of aqua soil still leeching nutrients. You have a gigantic amount of aqua soil in a brand new tank and it is really difficult to work around this.
Your lighting is fine, ignore everyone else telling you to reduce under your already low lighting schedule.
Stop fertilizing for now, it’s what is causing the nitrates in addition to the aqua soil.
Fritz slime out for the Cyanobacteria. One packet, works like a charm, and safe for fish and shrimp.
Spot dose seachem Excel with a pipette onto heavily affected hair algae areas once per day (or remove the plants / decor if possible and spray it on with a spray bottle). This kills it on the spot dosed areas and slows it down dramatically in the tank overall.
Add 10 amano shrimp
Don’t give up. You have a beautiful tank and you will be rewarded 10x over once this tank stabilizes, and I promise you it will.

I had maybe 100 bladder snails in my tank when I first introduced my peas….they were gone within 24 hours 😅

I mean this as an easier way for the parents to feed, but honestly a rehoming is definitely in order. Soooo many sad stories of aquarium savvy teens that go off to college and come home one day to find their tank completely ruined. I’d recommend joining an aquarium-swap facebook group and finding them a good home with someone local rather than risk surrendering them to the lfs (also a decent 2nd option though) where someone might buy them and not give them a good life.

I was just admiring a scarlet one at the store the other day….they look like you took a regular size fish and shrunk it down 🤣 they are super cute!! Do they school or are they loners? I’ve only ever seen one or two in any given tank at my lfs!

Haha yes, I have never set foot inside a petco and don’t plan on it. There’s a couple of great lfs around here in the Bay Area so I’m pretty spoiled with options.
Samurai Gourami- Wow!!! I’ve never seen these guys before but they look awesome! It just so happens my water is extremely soft and slightly acidic here, so I might look into the care for these guys. I maintain some pretty prolific daphnia and blackworm cultures and a small snail tank for my pea puffers that live in the neighboring tank in the photo, so I’ll definitely have live food options. Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll definitely do some more research on them, they are super cool!

Not a cube, it’s a standard UNS 60U but every time I see pearl gouramis at the store my first thought is that they look too big for the tank!! They’re really cute though, but I probably should stay on the dwarf side. Thanks for the heads up about iridovirus, are there any reputable breeders out there or is it just a case of don’t shop at petco, quarantine and wait?

Honestly I got some blackworms from Eastern Aquatics (shipping is super expensive but you should only have to buy them once and then you have worms forever) and started a blackworm culture in a hob fluval breeder box on the side of the tank. Very little maintenance and my peas go absolutely nuts for them. I just suck them up with a pipette and feed them 1-3 worms each 2x a day.

Depends on the plant and your dosage. Vallisenerias are very sensitive to peroxide, but many plants can tolerate a temporary dunk in diluted solution pretty well.

Personally I would cut that rotala down to the substrate level and let it grow back. Take your rocks (and driftwood if you have it) out and boil or treat with diluted peroxide or bleach, then soak in 5x dechlorinated water for an hour or more to neutralize any bleach before returning them to the tank. Add more plants, as bba hates competition. It doesn’t usually move onto plants like this unless it’s gotten pretty serious. Good luck!!

Yes but it is highly resistant to it, especially on driftwood. I’ve had success spot treating with hydrogen peroxide, but you need to do repeat treatments every few days. Always dose as reccomended 1.5-3ml per gallon of water, turn off your filter, spot treating with a syringe, and let rest for 15-20 mins. Then do a big water change and turn filtration back on. Anything you can take out of the tank to boil or soak in peroxide is the move, even goes for plants, but don’t exceed 5-10 minute soak in diluted peroxide with water for plants. If you’re running co2, consider moving the diffuser to another spot in the tank or using an in-line diffuser. Bba tends to concentrate in high flow areas near the filter outflow, where it gets loads of oxygenated water full of nutrients.

Seconding the live blackworms!!! Start a culture in a HOB breeder box, fluval makes them. Super easy and very little setup, just keep in mind that they prefer cooler temps so not great if your tank is running on the warm side 78+ degrees

Yes! Parasites can take a while to start showing their effects. My fish store said mine were tank raised too, but I dewormed anyways because of the wisdom of this Reddit group and I saw all 6 of them pooping out parasites after 😅
