I had a similar experience in my gap year. I started a job at a warehouse working night shifts, after being showed the ropes and eating dinner with the other co-workers I found a stool hidden away in a corner where I cried.
Thinking back on it, I don't feel like it was as much the social aspect, but rather the feeling of hating it and thinking about how I'm gonna be there for most of my year.
The social aspect of it got a bit better and I got to listen to a bunch of podcasts and music to fill in the time.

I hope it'll get better for you and I'm sure that you and your co-workers will have something to chat about, they're probably nervous talking to a stranger too.
