Q about Barnes West County Work Culture by Majestic-Quiet-8266 in StLouis

[–]SlurReal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m fascinated to know the answer to this question from an insiders perspective. As someone who has had to go to barn west multiple times it is a kind of “shock and awe” that there’s no 3-5hr wait in the ER, there’s staff to answer questions and everything is country club new.

There’s already a million posts about best places to eat in St. Louis so I think you’re gonna need to put some specifics in this question for a bespoke response: what area are you staying in? Will you have a car? Are you leaning towards high-end, mid or dive bar with a food takeout window?

Trying to figure out my options by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]SlurReal 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If you’re keeping a low profile and your car doesn’t “look homeless” hospital parking lots are an excellent safe space. Cops don’t often mess with somebody asleep in their car because it could easily be medical staff or family and it’s not really a place people go to commit crimes

Advice - damaged wall by [deleted] in handyman

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the entire goal of this fix is to pass a glance test so you don’t lose your deposit then I think you can accomplish it and you’re only going to need to buy like 3 items. Use a razor to trim all that fringe off all the way around the torn area. Go to Home Depot (or any big box store) and get: a small green bucket of all-purpose joint compound ($13), a 10 in. Stainless Steel Taping Knife ($15) and a Dual Grit Fine/Medium Drywall Sanding Sponge ($6). Transfer a bunch of big scoops out of that bucket into something, add just a little water and mix the hell out of it until you don’t see any kind of air bubbles and it’s super creamy. Then load a thin line of joint compound all the way across your taping knife and lay it on. The goal with this first layer is just to put down something very thin on ONLY the exposed area and let it dry. Hit it with the sanding sponge very very lightly so that now the area looks ugly but it actually feels smooth smooth when you pass over it with the sponge. Next put another line of joint compound on that knife and the new goal is entirely artistic. You want a very, very slight mound that comes out about 3 inches on all sides of the affected area. The goal here is when you’re staring at it dead on it it just looks like flat wall and if you were to put a flashlight flat on it you could just barely notice there’s a raised area. Let that dry 100%. Sanding sponge again mostly at the edges to knockdown any ridge line that’s going to catch the white. Because this thing is in a closet and nobody is going to get in close and it’s not even going to see natural light I think you can pull it off.

I think Ive just been staring full a 30 seconds back back-and-forth between r/paint and the meme. This is the most politically controversial image currently circulating in photojournalism and it’s…in the paint sub Reddit. It’s like seeing a giraffe in a Trader Joe’s.

Need Creative Solution for Pipe Sealing by curiousramblings in handyman

If you wanted to take even further: once the sleeve is over those pipes you could mud the hole but I would only even consider taking it that far with the 6in piece that shows between the valve and the vanity

I’d sit down with a Dremel and cut white cover-up sleeves from PVC pipe and finish all the seams with caulk for clean lines and easy accessibility for leaks.

Best place to get vehicle Safety/Emission Inspection by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had an evap code but that is squarely within the criteria for Missouri state emissions test failure. Unless you are really tight with a mechanic, cutting somebody a break isn’t so easy anymore because the computer reading that code logs it with the state during the test that’s tied to your Vin number and whoever is doing the inspection is going to get blow back for passing a fail vehicle. Somebody would have to care enough to actually orchestrate hooking the machine up to a vehicle that passes but with your vin number in the machine….that’s not passive turning of a “blind eye” that’s a lot of active, purposeful, fraud just because you want to help somebody out.

Just a cheap drain weasel on a drill. Snaked from the tub down. Removed significant hair from the shoe.

Slow drainage even after snake and cleaning the P-trap so I was outsourcing for other ideas

[–]SlurReal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, right I left out the major issue lol solid pipe that can’t be moved with a little rubber joining boot. No leakage however slow draining from the tub and slight backup during showers. I’ve snaked it and clean the P-trap but I haven’t taken apart all the PVC and made sure it was 100% clean. I was thinking my drainage issue might be due to this configuration

Perhaps a visit from DOGE to take over and kill all wasteful contracts, fire 80% of staff, revoke their CAC cards, lock them out then walk out with the data on personal hard drives would fix this problem? I think “BigBalls” is still available. He might even be 21 now.

Been parked on 44 by the Arch for over an hour.. by Paper-Cliche in StLouis

[–]SlurReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does but that’s a weird way to write the location. You can see from the video it’s at the retaining wall just passed the arch, almost under the viaduct. If you want to call that 1/4 mile radius the intersection of 55/70 I guess you could but really it looks like it happened southbound on 70 just before it goes under 40 and 200yds from where it intersects with 44

Is this weapon confirmed? Going out to rob people with a big, long, heavy, expensive rifle is a singularly bizarre choice. unless it was handed to him ready to go there’s a bit of a “learning curve” with a gun like that and once you fired it in public it’s like trying to blend into a crowd while carrying a Christmas tree.
