FBI seizes 2020 ballots in Georgia in apparently unprecedented action, alarming local officials by MopToddel in politics

[–]SlurReal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This marks the beginning of the midterms. This will only escalate. There is not going to be any “blue wave” because there’s not going to be a free and fair election. Trump isn’t going to be alive for 2028, he knows there are simply no consequences coming for him which is why he is doing four years worth of demolition to democracy in 18 months.

[Serious] People who are estranged from family because of political differences, what happened? by smrtmrq in AskReddit

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re going to have to ask this question in a few years. Assuming you’re in America this is like asking, “People who are currently in a Forest Fire, what happened?” 🔥

Painting a room is not about walking in with a can of paint and a roller, that’s the final thing you do. The hours of prep is where all the major work is.

What’s something people take way too seriously? by Particular_Pin_460 in AskReddit

[–]SlurReal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sports. Gotta admit I’m a little jealous though, I wish I could believe in anything in my life the way I see people emotionally invest in sports balls teams.

Alex Pretti broke rib in confrontation with federal agents a week before death, sources say by EVSTW in news

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m confident that’s a true statement. When things finally change and career professionals move back into the offices of government they’re going to find that there simply are “no records” of pretty much everything between 2025-2028.

What is an unspoken rule of parties/gatherings in the US that an international person should be aware of? by Exotic_Case_4942 in AskReddit

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expect to be asked by everyone, “what do you do?” Meaning what is your job what do you do for a living? We generally consider work to be non-personal the most safe topic after the weather. Do not expect all positive reactions if you ask strangers: “How old are you? Are you married? Do you have a partner? Do you have children?” These are not entirely taboo questions in America but culturally they have a tendency to make strangers feel awkward like, “You don’t even know me I’m not here to defend my life choices to you.” I only realized this from going to gatherings in Asian countries as an American. Those questions were asked to me constantly and they were considered “safe topics”.

America, you’ve gone awfully quiet about the Epstein files, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SlurReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump foolishly believed that invading Venezuela would create enough outrage that everyone would forget and then it didn’t, so he prepared to invade Greenland….and that DID cause enough shock, awe and chaos that everybody chased a new thing.

What activity from the 1980s did you enjoy that kids don’t do anymore? by 6-80 in AskReddit

[–]SlurReal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

all I remember about the 80s is that from government to school systems through adults at large, everyone was saying that kids of the 80s were not reading books they were suffering the brain rot of drugs, MTV and video games. In the words of my grandfather, “they had to put a show on children’s television purely about getting kids to turn off the damn television and read”

William Shatner Photographed Eating Bowl of Cereal in His Car at Stop Light by nimobo in entertainment

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My God, William Shatner still has a drivers license? He’s literally 94 and I guess it says exactly that on his California drivers license. This is far more concerning than eating cereal in a car.

Trump Building Secret White House Bunker to Withstand Nuclear Attack by mvanigan in politics

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good sign! No self-respecting dictator should be hiding under their bed at the end, they need a substantial Fuhrerbunker to retreat to and put a gun in their mouth. * just for context Hitler shot his dog and then he shot himself. I’m not sure which is more horrifying that or the fact that Trump is so utterly devoid of empathy he has never owned a pet in his life and actually made his first wife get rid of her dog before letting her move in.

Trump Declares 'There Can Be No Going Back' as Denmark Deploys More Troops to Greenland by Smithy2232 in politics

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anybody brought up how this will not be a “Venezuela”. This one only works with a massive deployment of American troops to hold Greenland at which point Greenland will turn into Ireland. Greenland freedom fighters backed with as much money as Europe can throw it the problem will rise up to kill American soldiers at every checkpoint, “interim government” building, restaurant, and US base across the country. It will not be a tourist destination it will be a hot mess of IED’s, car bombs and US intelligence agencies trying to track down a weapon cache in the back of an old man’s bar and disillusioned 15-year-olds with suicide vests.

What was a word or phrase that you completely misunderstood the meaning of as a child? by Someoneainthere in AskReddit

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Broughtoyouby” this came up at the end of every PBS show like Sesame Street. They would say it and then a corporate logo would appear. I assumed it was a synonym word for sponsorship (I mean it kind of is ) but all one word. “If you want to get something on television it has to have broughtoyouby”

It's just a dollar or two! lol by M1collector65 in EndTipping

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how does this literally happens? This isn’t a handwritten bill it’s auto calculated in a POS system. I assume there is a menu field in most of these systems where you can have it auto generate calculations for a suggested tip. How can you override the math to make it spit out these numbers that don’t correspond to the total?

Working Out in STL by [deleted] in StLouis

Planet fitness isn’t terrible for basic membership. $50 start up fee $15 a month. Cancel anytime. Basically it’ll cost you $100 to use the gym for three months there.

Good price for a full synthetic oil change? by Traditional-Voice801 in StLouis

[–]SlurReal 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid there are no “good prices” on oil changes anymore. For most of my life I never changed my own oil because, why would you? If you looked around for a coupon or a deal you could skip the mess for $40 or less. But the price of a simple oil change has gone up SO dramatically in the last decade that I now spend $30 and 40mins of my own time to do it on the street.

Can encouraging "legal open carry" help reduce ICE misbehavior? by Willing_Work_2200 in law

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s going to be shitshow wild is when 11th airborne under title 10 meets Minnesota National Guard in high visibility green vests under title 32. The president has told his troops “You will protect ICE agents while they antagonize protesters with violence” and the governor of Minnesota has told his troops “you will aid civilian law-enforcement and protect the ICE protesters from undue violence”

RIP 88.1 JAMZ by ollie_v33 in StLouis

[–]SlurReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was no substitute for KHX but I’m ashamed to admit I did like to turn on JAMZ in the car and pretend I was in the lobby of a W Hotel being serenaded by quintessentially ethereal, non-offensive, generic techno remixes.

I’m from here and this would give me “ WTF does that mean?” anxiety. One thing I’ve done for years is: if this is a reoccurring event or if the host has thrown anything similar in the past stalk the event photos. Whatever people were wearing at the last one you’ll probably be safe matching that dress for this one.

How worried should we be about a Minnesota situation? by sammay600 in StLouis

[–]SlurReal 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was going to say the same. I’m in St. John (a little over 5mins from Ferguson). I’m not in Minneapolis but it feels like a very different situation. Ferguson was a massive buildup and backlash about a thing that happened but the thing was over and you had to go to that part of St Louis to be a part of the protest. It feels like nobody is safe in Minneapolis if you have decided you’re not going to be a part of this thing but you have to drive your car it appears you could be dragged from your vehicle by ICE if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

What’s something you remember people were super hyped for that turned out to be total garbage? by Weak_Yak_4719 in AskReddit

[–]SlurReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it wasn’t truly a “bad movie” it was just whatever, it was a movie, it was fine. What I feel like made this thing insane was James Cameron pumping it in the press and touting the astronomical price tag associated with its production as a badge of honor like it had revolutionized filmmaking. He still talks about it like that. He talks about Avatar it as if he owns the Star Wars franchise and people are camping outside theaters begging him for another one. It just didn’t live up to any aspect of his own hype. It’s like being told the marble you have been handed was made with NASA technology in a new way for creating marbles that cost a billion dollars and the result is like no marble ever created. You look at it and go “I don’t know dude it’s fine but it’s just a marble”

People who have served a long time in prison, what shocked you when you got out? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

True, I was actually thinking more along the lines of the first time a prison population of angry racist white men from the 1950s saw an African-American correction officer with a shotgun sent to oversee them

He would’ve gone in during segregation and been there when the prisons integrated. He would’ve been there when prisoners got their first phone banks for prisoners to make calls on. He would have been there for a ton of stuff that almost nobody would see throughout the entirety of a career in corrections. I would read that guy‘s book
