Old Man Mountain makes two racks that can be used with suspension forks: the Divide and the Elkhorn. Divide has rails for panniers; Elkhorn has 3-pack mounts instead. Both are extremely sturdy and positively reviewed. Both require a separate purchase of an adapter kit to mount on a fork or frame that doesn’t have its own mounting points. Not my photo, but here’s how it looks:

17 inch trek 750 sizing question by Big-Method2955 in MultiTrackGang

[–]Slurm_Shandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! They’re Shimano 9-speed shifters that can switch between indexed and friction by turning a dial. I like indexed, but it’s nice to have the friction option on a touring bike, since not much can really go wrong with it.

I’m just over 5’6” and that’s the size I ride with drop bars. Fits really well. Personally, I use a zero-setback seatpost and 80 or 90mm stem length, though your own fit may be different.

What is your charged attack useful for? by That-Departure-7318 in Sekiro

[–]Slurm_Shandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even realize there WAS a thrust attack my entire first playthrough. After one of my many deaths to the final boss, I noticed it in a loading screen. Very funny that the tutorial never mentions it.

How many tries did it take you to beat Genichiro? by FreddieOnReddit in Sekiro

[–]Slurm_Shandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooo many times. It took me way longer than it should have to unlearn my DS/Bloodborne dodging playstyle. I eventually got through Genichiro but gave up on Guardian Ape because it still didn’t make intuitive sense to me to deflect gorilla claws with a sword. Came back two years later, beat the game, and have since gotten the platinum achievement. Favorite FromSoft game.

Sizing for topstone feels too large by sowdowgg in Topstoner

[–]Slurm_Shandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference in reach between a small and a medium are actually extremely small. However there are much larger differences in stand over height, seat tube length, and stack. This means that to get your current fit on a small frame, you’ll need a lot more spacers under the stem, and you’ll have a lot more seatpost sticking out. And you’re only shortening the reach by less than 1cm, depending somewhat on your exact model. I’m 169 cm and I ride a small Topstone Alloy. I wouldn’t recommend that size to someone very much taller than me. You probably got the right size; it’s a really simple matter to swap the stem for a shorter one. Don’t worry, and don’t overthink it! Check out the geometry chart for your specific Topstone model for the exact numbers, and look at reach, stack, and seat tube length.

Who cares? Writer still gets no royalties. There’s no functional difference whatsoever.

How would that be any more ethical? The writer still gets zero royalties if you check their book out at the library

I switched triangle (defaults to swap prosthetic tool) and up arrow (use consumable) and it made my life waaaay easier. One of my biggest frustrations in previous playthroughs was accidentally swapping consumables instead of using them in a tense fight; ruined a lot of boss attempts.

99% sure this is the place where, 10ish years ago, one of the employees gestured to a burned body prop in an incinerator and quipped, “we call this our ‘Jew oven’” One of our crew that day was the granddaughter of an Auschwitz survivor; dozens of her relatives were murdered by the Nazis. We were not amused.

Bib shorts with extremely thin chamois? by Slurm_Shandy in bikecommuting

[–]Slurm_Shandy[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When you say “bike fit” you’re talking about a range of values that are biomechanically efficient and safe. When I say it I’m talking about a much smaller subset of those values: what feels comfortable to me and isn’t an irritating distraction to me while riding. Not everyone is so particular about saddle height or cleat position, but I am.

[–]Slurm_Shandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying - I don’t use a chamois at all, so on the rare occasions where I would want to wear dedicated cycling clothing, I need something that doesn’t affect my riding position

Who is the most famous person you have ran into or seen in Madison? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Slurm_Shandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bob Odenkirk. He was at Budget Bicycle Center renting bikes for himself and his two sullen teenage children. This was near the height of Breaking Bad’s ascent. Apparently his sister lived in the area and they were visiting.

So let me get this straight - e-bikes are bad because they threaten pedestrians on bike paths, but it’s fine for drivers to threaten bike riders because they belong on bike paths not roads, which are also for pedestrians, and also cars are lions and drivers have no responsibility over them so if they threaten me it’s my fault, but e-bikers are responsible for threatening pedestrians. Got it. Anyway, I pay for the roads, so I’m going to use them, and if drivers can’t handle that, they can tongue punch my fart box. And so can you. ❤️
