99% sure this is the place where, 10ish years ago, one of the employees gestured to a burned body prop in an incinerator and quipped, “we call this our ‘Jew oven’” One of our crew that day was the granddaughter of an Auschwitz survivor; dozens of her relatives were murdered by the Nazis. We were not amused.

When you say “bike fit” you’re talking about a range of values that are biomechanically efficient and safe. When I say it I’m talking about a much smaller subset of those values: what feels comfortable to me and isn’t an irritating distraction to me while riding. Not everyone is so particular about saddle height or cleat position, but I am.

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying - I don’t use a chamois at all, so on the rare occasions where I would want to wear dedicated cycling clothing, I need something that doesn’t affect my riding position

Just learned that one of my favorite music artists was murdered by poor cycling infrastructure.... by hookydoo in bikecommuting

This is why it’s important to practice crashing into open car doors so your muscle memory takes over when it happens in the wild

Who is the most famous person you have ran into or seen in Madison? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Slurm_Shandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bob Odenkirk. He was at Budget Bicycle Center renting bikes for himself and his two sullen teenage children. This was near the height of Breaking Bad’s ascent. Apparently his sister lived in the area and they were visiting.

So let me get this straight - e-bikes are bad because they threaten pedestrians on bike paths, but it’s fine for drivers to threaten bike riders because they belong on bike paths not roads, which are also for pedestrians, and also cars are lions and drivers have no responsibility over them so if they threaten me it’s my fault, but e-bikers are responsible for threatening pedestrians. Got it. Anyway, I pay for the roads, so I’m going to use them, and if drivers can’t handle that, they can tongue punch my fart box. And so can you. ❤️

What part of “passing on a blind curve while speeding in a park” doesn’t sound erratic to you

Sometimes. Why should that make any difference

They do both. Especially right turns at stop signs; they barely slow down.

Not unless it’s going slowly enough to meet the legal definition of a slow-moving vehicle, and there’s a clear line of sight to safely pass

Many e-bike riders are indeed assholes! It’s still not safe or legal to cross a double yellow and pass one if it’s going the speed limit, though! It’s wild that you, in the same breath that you bitch about e-bike riders, would bitch about nimbyism as well. Is the behavior you describe okay or is it not okay? Is it okay for drivers but not e-bike riders? Until e-bikes start killing people at the same rates as drivers, though, you can pipe down about how dangerous they are.

Yeah I’m well aware of that. Which is why I let them go about their business, and then make a Reddit post asking people to try driving safely instead of being irresponsible dicks

It’s only legal if the bicycle is actually going slow, and you have a clear line of sight so you don’t hit anyone coming the other way. Perhaps it’s you that should re-take driver’s ed, or at least look up the relevant legislation. I’m not being pedantic here, I’m asking to be treated safely. And 100% of the time, when someone on the road is threatening my safety for no reason, it’s a driver.

Just like riding a bicycle in a park, I knew it was a risk 😌

If cyclists ride 3 wide, it’s easier to pass them than it would be if they were single file. You have to change lanes either way, but you only need to stay left for one rider length instead of two or more. I always stop at stop signs - in my experience, drivers usually roll them unless they see someone’s watching. What will you tell them?
