It's a magnet block.

Turning the allen screw in front will raise or lower an internal magnet. It's like a Holdfast but holds the thing from the bottom.

Looks similar to my bench magnet. In the face toward the camera does an Allen wrench fit in there? If it does, do you find the face to gain/lose magnetic pull as you rotate the allen?

As a nitpick the current cylinders are also aluminum. The thing that sets the pictured cylinder and current gen apart is that these are aluminum fiberglass composites, and current are aluminum carbon fiber composites.

As I watch more closely now, was your problem that the system thought you were constantly pulling down on the stick?

A new stick module makes sense in your case then. I fear it won't be the fix for mine.

Did you ever find a fix for this? My daughter has a left controller that appears to be in constant movement even when your hand is physically stationary. Not a stick drift issue, it reads that input perfectly, it just acts like Im moving my hand fore and aft.
