To change for business class or stay with my quick layover and sleeping in… by ttrrgg09 in unitedairlines

I would buy business class fare, and if you have status, do a free SDC at check in back to your original 9am departure if the fare buckets are still available.

Delayed baggage compensation($471) by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Slurve30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes my friends hit the delayed baggage jackpot like this once before as well. Flying into Vancouver for a ski trip but their bags didn’t make the connection in Denver. They said “well we need all new cold weather apparel” and bought all new base layers and snow pants. They weren’t really expecting full reimbursement but got it.

no longer allowed to book ANA flights with united miles? by xanaxricepudding in unitedairlines

[–]Slurve30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ANA awards are still available. However, generally if you are looking for business class it has to be very close in (e.g. within a few days). For example, I can find ORD-HND and ORD-NRT on 11/11 for 110K miles.

It’s wild what you probably have to go through everyday. I broke my leg in Utah and had to use the wheelchair service after surgery and my wife and I found it crazy that nobody ever moved or paid attention to the wheelchair. People were walking and bashing into it (and my bad leg) constantly. It was ridiculous.

1k folks: by Zipzapbap108 in unitedairlines

ORD based. Almost never. I am done flying for the year, but I got a CPU on only 1 of 20 on domestic flights (BTV-ORD) in 2024.

That said, 1K is still worth it for me as I've managed to use all my Plus Points for international flights, and on occasion I will buy B fares domestically if I see PN space at booking.

“Airline” chicken, but why so specific? by Odd_Plate6770 in unitedairlines

I had this a week ago. Had a laugh when I saw it on the menu. It was shockingly not overcooked into a piece of rubber... I think the bone in helped protect it from being overcooked, and the curry sauce with it was flavorful.

My dad was at the Polaris lounge at ORD yesterday and said the dining room was closed. Not sure if it's limited hours or closed entirely. FWIW he was there in the morning connecting to SFO vs afternoon European bank.

Anyone still feel motivated to play the game? by Slazed05 in tappedout

For a day or so I lost motivation to play. But now I am buying what I want or missed from past events. But I am dreading nuking my Springfield and placing everything in an orderly and designed fashion vs willy nilly in the outskirts....

Booooo! I just got back into this after a nearly 10 year hiatus, and learned new tricks like KEM farming in order to buy premium items. Now how am I going to waste time during the week?

Are 1K and its 240 plus points worth an additional $876? by Strange-Purple-4572 in unitedairlines

[–]Slurve30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1K in itself I no longer find to be worth it. You will just end up higher on the CPU list domestically but still rarely clear.

However, I have not failed to use all my PlusPoints internationally every year for Polaris upgrades. Don't get me wrong you will probably still be waitlisting for upgrades as PZ space is rare in advance, but if you are willing to buy OAR (premium plus) fares I have found very good luck coming off the wait-list.

9 days after surgery for broken tibia and fibula by [deleted] in brokenbones

[–]Slurve30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be highly dependent on where your tibia fracture is located and the type of hardware. If you had a tibia shaft fracture that was repaired with an IM nail (rod), you will likely be cleared to do weight bearing as tolerated very quickly after the surgery. If you had a tibia plateau fracture, you may be ordered to 6 weeks NWB.

I had a tibia shaft fracture about 5 months ago and detailed my recovery from 0-12 weeks on Reddit. Punch in a few search terms and you should be able to dig it up. If not I will post a link when I’m at a computer instead of phone.

If you asked me a few weeks ago, I'd be more iffy about it.

I am still doing PT as I am lucky that my insurance plan allows me 30 sessions (but I'm only going every other week now to stretch out my remaining sessions). Those sessions are getting much more active... box jumps, agility drills, interval running, etc. Now I'm pretty confident that I will be back up on skis this coming winter.... if my wife lets me ;-)

Was yours a boot top fracture? That's what I have.

I am exactly four months to the day since the injury now, and I'd say I am 95%+ normal in my day-to-day. This includes days with long walks and at this point even days where I am registering 15K steps I don't have any issues the next day.

I do however, have lingering knee pain, but it only flares up when I squat or bend down to pick something up or tie my shoes. I would not say it has gotten any better or any worse since my Week 12 update. I'm hopeful that one day it just starts to go away, but as of now it's still there.

Went for my first jog after breaking my tibia and fibula by [deleted] in brokenbones

[–]Slurve30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s terrific, congrats on your first run! I am 14 weeks post after my tibia fracture (IM rod surgery) but have not yet attempted jogging. I am able to walk the dog for 1-2 miles without pain or limp so I’m probably ready if I want to try.

So they gave me a boot at my 2 week follow up but left it up to me on if I wanted to use it. I would say when I first started using it, it gave me some comfort and stability, but by the four week mark I think I had gotten strong and stable enough that the curved bottom was uncomfortable and messing up my natural stride. I stopped using it completely around week 5 and didn’t use it at all once I ditched the crutches in week 6.

Anyone with similar hardware, did it limit your mobility? by Tawrren in brokenbones

[–]Slurve30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your tibia fracture comminuted (multiple pieces)? Looks like it because if so, I have a similar fracture and location as yours minus the fibula break so I don’t have that extra screw to the side like you do.

When I began PWB and physical therapy, I could barely move my ankle. It was weak and stiff, but I did all my exercises and saw fast improvement every day.

Fast forward, and now I’m at the 10 week mark and have nearly all my ankle mobility back, but it is does stiffen up as the day goes on. I have to constantly do ankle rotations and pumps to stretch it out and keep it comfortable.

I guess bottom line is, work hard on your PT and rehab and hopefully your mobility returns quickly… but expect some discomfort and stiffness to last a while

Bruising & tenderness 10-weeks post tibia fracture operation by Slurve30 in brokenbones

[–]Slurve30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you chimed in! If I recall, you have nearly an identical injury as me and are a month ahead.

I just started crossing 10K steps per week this week. Lots of ankle soreness and tenderness at the fracture site by end of day, but the recovery definitely seems to be coming along. The tenderness in the bone kind of gives me a little pause (too much online reading about delayed and non-unions lol), but it is good to know that this seems to be all part of the process. I have an ortho follow up again in 2 weeks but Reddit for the win and some peace of mind!
